Kathleen Roll & Justin Simmons worked in Dayton bars and restaurants for many years before moving off to Chicago, but always knew they wanted to return to Dayton. So when they recently moved back to Dayton they came with a plan to open their own business. They decided to open a store featuring a thoughtful collection of grocery staples & really good old school sandwiches in the downtown area.
Tony and Pete’s, which is named after their fathers, will be a neighborhood market offering fresh produce, grocery staples, cleaning supplies, laundry detergent, florals, and old school cold cut sandwiches.
Justin explains they want to offer epic old school deli sandwiches, they’ll even have draft beer and wine available. While they are working on finalizing the menu here are a couple of confirmed items:
THE TONY: Turkey, Roast Beef, American Cheese, Lots of Shredduce, Roasted Red Peppers, Duke’s Mayo, and T&P Vinaigrette.
The Italian Chopped Salad with mixed lettuces, chickpeas, olives, tomato, oregano, salami, smoked provolone and T&P vinaigrette.
While not a restaurant, there will be a deli counter, where you can order a sandwich, pick up some great sides. While it may not be on the official menu, Justin teases that a true Chicago style Italian Beer with true giardiniera
will be featured in the future.

The lease for WYSO’s new studio in downtown Dayton’s Arcade has been signed, and a team led by developer Cross Street Partners will soon begin to transform 500 square feet at the corner of Fourth and Main streets into a state-of-the-art recording and production space.
To be named for Chuck Berry of the Charles D. Berry Foundation—which gave the lead gift for the project—the studio will raise WYSO’s profile among current and new listeners and allow the station to cover local news and culture more easily. In addition to the lead gift from the Charles D. Berry Foundation, smaller gifts from individuals as well a generous grant from the discretionary fund of The Dayton Foundation made the new location possible.
“Having a presence in downtown Dayton has been a dream of ours for a long time,” said General Manager Luke Dennis. “And we’re deeply grateful to our donors for making it a reality. I thank Chuck Berry especially for his decades-long support of WYSO. His generosity has always made it possible for us to grow and improve, like when he gave the lead gift for our license purchase campaign that allowed us to become an independent station. He also made the lead gift for a tower relocation project that increased our potential audience by more than half a million people. He has always invested in WYSO in ways that help us build our capacity.”
The new space will be busy. The news team will use it to produce stories. The music team will use it to record interviews with local and visiting performers, among others. Dayton Youth Radio
Director Basim Blunt will bring local teens there to learn to make radio stories. And the business support team and WYSO’s governing and community advisory boards will use it for meetings. “Yellow Springs will always be our home,” Dennis said. “But not all of our employees and board members live in or near the village, and many of the people we want to connect with live or work in Dayton and Montgomery County. Downtown Dayton is a convenient, important place for us to be.”

Graeter’s Ice Cream has released the third of five bonus flavors this season, and it’s sure to be a sweet one: Churro.
Available starting Monday in Graeter’s stores and online, Churro is a combination of cinnamon ice cream with crunchy churro pieces.
As with other bonus flavors, Churro is considered a limited time only flavor, and once it’s gone from stores and online, it’s retired for the year.
The first bonus flavor was Strawberry Cheesecake and the second was Frozen Hot Chocolate. A total of five bonus flavors total come out this season from Graeter’s.

Rice To throw at newlyweds Ralph Hapschatt and Betty Munroe at the beginning of the show. Many fans will bring rice, though there is concern it will harm birds that eat it (snopes.com says it won’t, but you decide). It also can beslick onstage. American Stage’s kit includes a bubblemaker instead.
Confetti or bubbles At the end of the I Can Make You a Man (the Charles Atlas song) reprise, the Transylvanians throw confetti as Rocky and Frank head toward the bedroom. Or you could blow bubbles instead — easier to clean up.
Newspaper* When Brad and Janet are caught in the storm, Janet covers her head with a newspaper, and you should do the same. Oh look, you have a good one in your hands. Take it!
Flashlight or glow stick* Light up the place during the “There’s a light” verse of Over at the Frankenstein Place. Refrain from using lighters — you have a newspaper on your head.
Rubber glove During and after the creation speech, Frank snaps his rubber gloves three times. Do the same in synch each time for an awesome sound effect.
Water gun To mimic the rainstorm Brad and Janet are caught in. Good thing you have a newspaper on your head!
Toast What’s an audience member to do when Frank-N-Furter proposes a toast? Throw a piece on stage!
Bell During the song Planet Schmanet — Wise Up Janet Weiss, ring the bell when Frank sings “Did you hear a bell ring?” (Shaking keys also work.)
Noisemakers At the end of the creation speech, the Transylvanians respond with applause and noisemakers. Go for it.
Toilet paper When Dr. Scott enters the lab, Brad cries out “Great Scott!” That’s your cue to toss rolls of toilet paper — purists prefer the Scott brand. American Stage’s kit includes a piece of plaid instead.
Playing cards* During the song I’m Going Home, Frank sings “Cards for sorrow, cards for pain.” Let the cards fly.
This list comprises recommended items to bring to the theater, but be advised that some props, such as the hot dogs and a water gun, will not be allowed.
Commit these scenes to memory and use them as a prop guide.

Dani Ruffalo took an Entrepreneurship class when she was a student at the University of Dayton. Her class project was a hat with an inner pouch that can be used for cash, credit cards or even a face mask.
After patenting that idea, Dani launched Handy Hats . All of the hats are designed and assembled in Dayton.

Living up to the promise they will rock you since 1993, Killer Queen has won countless awards including “Worldwide Best Tribute Band” and “Best Concert of the Year.” They’ve represented Queen in Bob Geldof’s LiveAid concert, had a residency in the West End, and even scored a number one hit recording the harmonies for “The Real Life” with Fatboy Slim!
Now this wildly successful show is heading to Fraze Pavilion. Looking at their journey so far, Patrick Myers said “The concerts grew and grew and we’ve ended up playing and selling out the same arenas that Queen played at their peak. It’s been quite a surreal ride.”
Described as “Very accurate. Almost frightening… unbelievably similar to the original” – it’s A Kind of Magic how Patrick Myers channels Freddie Mercury!

JEB Food Group LLC has done an incredible job changing the look of what was previously the Fox & Hound into a place that feels like a mountain lodge, complete with animal heads on the walls, antler chandeliers and 70 tv’s that will make it a mecca for sports fans. Located adjacent to the Fairfield Commons Mall, Twin Peaks will feature scratch-made food, 32 29-degree beers on tap – including national and local favorites and plenty of eye candy. With a large menu including smashed and seared burgers in-house smoked brisket, pork and wings, soups, salads, tacos, manager Amanda told us one of their most popular dishes is their pot roast.
Last night I got to enjoy a sneak peak meal at the lodge. We were immediately greeted by a bevy of Twin Peaks Girl in barely there red plaid tops and short shorts and taken to a tall table and offered selections from a limited menu.
We selected a couple of cocktails from their featured $5 list. The Don Julio Blackberry Rita was refreshing and slightly sweet. I appreciated the one large round ice cube that kept the drink cold, but didn’t water it down. My dining campaigns enjoyed the tartness of the Wheatley Strawberry Lemonade made with Wheatley Vodka, Monin Strawberry puree, lemonade house sour, lemon juice and Sprite.
Other $5 options included a mojito, a Tito’s bloody mary and the Irish Trashcan, made from house vodka, rum, melon liqueur and a can of Red Bull.
During the preview we were able to select an appetizer for the table and choose loaded fries with hickory smoked pulled pork. They came loaded with cheddar · pepper jack · bacon bits · green onions · pico de gallo · cilantro · diced pickles · smoky sweet BBQ drizzle · bacon ranch and appreciated they cam with tongs to make them easy to share.
For entree’s we shared tastes of three different entrees:
all-beef house made meatballs · marinara made in-house with San Marzano tomatoes · fresh mozzarella · Parmesan · parsley · toasted hoagie roll
smoked pulled pork · creamy coleslaw · pickles · BBQ sauce which came with a choice of regular fries or the sweet potatoe fries we choose.
blackened · southwest pico · house made garlic mashed potatoes · sautéed broccoli
This is the 3rd Ohio location for Twin Peaks, the Texas based chain that was founded in 2005. “We’re excited to bring the ultimate sports lodge to Beavercreek,” said Twin Peaks CEO Joe Hummel. “With wall-to-wall TVs, fans won’t miss a second of their Bengals, Reds, Bearcats or Flyers, as well as every marquee game, event and fight. Plus, our scratch-made food and elevated bar selection offers something for every appetite. We can’t wait to open the lodge and join the Beavercreek community.”
On Monday, June 27th and Tuesday, June 28th they’ll have a soft opening starting at 5pm and come Wednesday, June 29th they’ll begin their regular hours beginning with lunch service at 11am. Weeknights they will be open until midnight and Friday & Saturday will serve until 2am. It’s a huge building and including the patio can seat 314 guests. They don’t take reservations, but based on the number of people that tried to come in during the invite only session last night, I expect they will be quite busy right away. They also offer a 20% discount for military and first responders.
