What to Know to Enjoy the Air Show

June 20, 2024 By Dayton937

2024 is a very special year for the CenterPoint® Energy Dayton Air Show Presented by Kroger as they celebrate 50 years of air shows in the birthplace of aviation – Dayton, Ohio! This year they  welcome the U.S. Navy Blue Angels at Dayton International Airport.

The Blue Angels will headline a jaw dropping lineup of performers and aircraft ground displays in what will be one of the biggest and most special air shows in Dayton history.

The Vandalia-Butler Chamber of Commerce Dayton Air Show Parade is generally the Friday of “air show week”. While the parade officially steps off at 7 p.m., preparation begins as early as 3 p.m. and can create traffic congestion in the parade staging area. Don’t miss this great community event through downtown Vandalia. The route begins at St. Christopher’s parking lot (on U.S. 40 near I-75), travels west to the historic Crossroads of America, turns north on North Dixie and finishes at the Delphi plant on Northwoods Blvd. Motorists should exercise great caution and patience in the area because of the increased pedestrian traffic.

On Saturday and Sunday gates open at 9am and close at 6pm. Flying will start at 11:15am. Planes in the sky, aircraft on the ground, Kids Zone and STEM areas, and plenty of food and drinks available – you don’t want to miss all of the action.

Candy or Protein Bar- We Say Both

June 20, 2024 By Dayton937

Before working out or after, many people search for some form of protein to energize them.  ONE Brands has collaborated with Hershey’s to make this dream a reality with two unique flavors.

The partnership features Hershey’s Cookies ‘n’ Creme and Reese’s Peanut Butter flavors, each containing 18 grams of protein and 3 grams of sugar.

“Many peanut butter flavored protein bars exist in the world, but only ONE Brands can do it with real ingredients of Reese’s peanut butter,” said Bo Jones, ONE Brands brand manager via a press release provided to Guilty Eats.

If peanut butter isn’t your thing, there is also the Cookies ‘n’ Creme one mentioned above. Like the Reese’s bar, it offers the iconic taste that Hershey fans across the nation will remember with one bite. And it doesn’t come with the guilt that occurs when buying a sugary chocolate bar at your local Walgreens or wherever you may purchase candy.

That said, the new collab helps those with a sweet tooth to find a new alternative. Instead of going straight to the shelf to grab a candy bar after a workout — a protein bar inspired by the candy can replace energy while providing the taste you love.

Footlong Dippers Now at Subway

June 18, 2024 By Dayton937

Subway is fueling America’s love for all things Footlong with the debut of all-new Footlong Dippers, available at restaurants nationwide. These hot, cheesy and craveable footlong snacks join the wildly popular Sidekicks menu at the irresistible price of $3.

Footlong Dippers are served hot, swirling melted cheese and meat and rolled in Subway’s soft and bubbly lavash-style flatbread.

Three varieties:
Pepperoni & Cheese,
Chicken & Cheese
Double Cheese

Served with one of Subway’s 11 signature sauces, like Honey Mustard, Creamy Sriracha or tangy Peppercorn Ranch. Footlong fans can choose their own flavor adventure and try all 33 sauce and dipper combinations to find the dip that hits.

“Subway’s all-new Dippers embody the changes Subway has made over the past few years by elevating our food and guest experience to better meet the needs of today’s diner – balancing their love for the iconic footlong alongside our commitment to convenience, crave and value,” said Doug Fry, President of Subway North America. “Our guests devoured nearly 30 million Sidekicks since their debut in January and they will find all 33 flavor combinations of Dippers for $3* to be equally irresistible.”

Dippers are the summer blockbuster sequel to Subway’s Sidekicks menu, joining the instant classic Footlong Cookie, Auntie Anne’s® Footlong Pretzel and Cinnabon® Footlong Churro. Subway’s third major menu refresh this year follows the launch of Sidekicks in January and all-new signature wraps in April with a hearty new lavash-style flatbread also showcased in Dippers.

With Dippers, Subway now has a footlong for every eating occasion and every budget. From footlong subs to cookies, churros, pretzels and now Dippers, the brand continues to build on 60 years of footlong expertise, with even more innovation to look forward to later this year. Let the summer of footlongs begin!

To order Footlong Dippers for pickup or delivery** and learn more about Subway’s latest menu updates, visit your local Subway, Subway.com or the Subway App.

Rum Runners in Kettering Now Officially Open

June 17, 2024 By Dayton937

We first wrote about this restaurant in May, when they were doing carry-out orders and finishing the construction.  They said they’d open in June and today they officially posted on their facebook page the doors are open and they are welcoming guest to dine in with them.

Owner Jamie Campbell said it’s been she and her partners dream to open a restaurant for about a decade and they’re excited to make it a reality.  They share a love of rum and  have a rum-based BBQ sauce line that is currently sold locally at Dorothy Lane Market and Dots Market.  The sauce offerings include honey rum, sweet rum and spicy rum as well as a forthcoming rum and Coke sauce as well as a glaze in the same flavor. All the sauces will be available to add as side for any order as well as a sauce option for the restaurant’s chicken wings.

While the restaurant has rum in its name, guests won’t be able to order a cocktail with their meal, at least not at first. The eatery plans to get its alcohol licensing in the fall, at which time it will serve alcohol in addition to food.

Foodbank Shutting Down Wed Drive-Thru Program

June 12, 2024 By Dayton937

Effective August 1st The Foodbank‘s Wednesday Drive-Thru will be closing. The Foodbank is NOT closing, they have been in service to our community for 48 years and will continue to serve our network of 115+ nonprofit food pantry partners and operate our other direct service programs for the foreseeable future.
They do not take the decision to close our Wednesday Drive-Thru lightly. As a foodbank their job is to supply food directly to other nonprofits who feed our community across Montgomery, Greene, and Preble counties of Ohio. Last year they distributed over 16-million pounds of food to 115+ agency partners at no cost.
The Drive-Thru served a critical need when responding to the 2019 Memorial Day tornadoes and also during Covid when no-contact emergency food service was necessary. Future plans for our Drive-Thru include pop up bonus distributions which will be announced publicly well in advance.
Please know that they are committed to serving you, our community, and will continue to do so for the next 48+ years! Their food pantry partners are the backbone of their work and they are eager to better serve the agencies who operate to serve neighbors directly.
