Every performance will be interpreted by American Sign Language (ASL) shadow performers.  \nWhen the family pets are left alone on Christmas Eve\, they are visited by the neighborhood animals who teach them that humans celebrate winter holidays in different ways.  They learn about Hanukkah\, Kwanzaa and La Posada and discover that while humans have different traditions\, ultimately all celebrations are about love and togetherness.    \n“This production is the result of a lovely collaboration between Sinclair’s Theatre department and Interpreter Education department\,” says director Kelsey Celek. “In the same way the play’s characters share their traditions and cultures\, these departments are sharing their skills and resources. Scott also writes “Baby Blues”\, another popular comic strip that appears in the Dayton Daily News. Each has won the prestigious Reuben Award for Cartoonist of the Year\, and Borgman received the 1991 Pulitzer Prize for Editorial Cartooning at the Cincinnati Enquirer.

SUMMARY:Clay Tree Luminaries
DESCRIPTION:Enjoy a cozy morning of clay with a fun luminary project (which could easily serve as a cute night or a holiday gift for a special someone!)\, no clay experience required! These little tree luminaries are simple in their construction to make\, but decorating them is the best part! Each family will receive a 2lb pre-rolled slab of clay (can make approximately 2 medium luminaries or 3-4 smaller ones\, max is 4 please!)  as well as an armature to wrap their clay on. There will be tools to make small punches\, and glaze to decorate with! Please allow 2-3.5 weeks as these need ample time to dry before firing. Each luminary will receive 1 LED tea light with pickup. Participants will be notified by Moraine Parks and Recreation when they’re ready. Registration is required. Register one person per 4 family members. If there are more than 4 family members\, please register an additional family member. This is not a drop-off program.

Each family will receive a 2lb pre-rolled slab of clay\, which can create 1 large fairy house\, or a couple smaller ones (and they can get pretty small!) We will learn basic clay techniques like scoring and slipping to build our fairy house foundations\, and then it’s time to decorate! create fences\, windows\, doors\, etc! then glaze it up with an assortment of fun colors!  Fairy houses will be fired in a kiln and returned to the Gerhardt Civic Center approximately 2-3 weeks after the program (projects will need time to dry prior to firing!). Participants will be notified when they are ready for pick up! Registration is required to participate. Only one member per family needs to register. This is not a drop-off program.

SUMMARY:Looting Antiquity: Greece's Lost Marbles
DESCRIPTION:The first presentation in the Archaeological Institute of America Dayton Society’s 2025-2026 Lecture Series presented by Dr. Zoë Kontes\, Professor of Classics at Kenyon College. \nThe Parthenon Marbles may be the most famous sculptures removed from an ancient Greek building\, but they are far from the only ones. Marble sculptures from the Temple of Aphaia on the island of Aegina and the mountaintop Temple of Apollo at Bassae were spirited away and sold at auction in the 19th century; they have remained abroad ever since. This talk will discuss the adventures the sculptures have had in their modern history\, consider the important question of where they belong\, and review the current state of looting in Greece. \nThis lecture is scheduled to take place in person in the Science Center Auditorium (SC 114) at The University of Dayton. \nFor a campus map with building and parking information visit https://udayton.edu/map/ \nThanks to the Archaeological Institute of America’s Lecture Program and its Dayton Society members this lecture is free and open to the public.
