R. Darden Bradshaw Exhibit
November 3 through December 4th
Woodbourne Library (6060 Far Hills Avenue)

View the work of R. Darden Bradshaw. Bradshaw is Associate Professor of Art Education and Area Coordinator for Art Education at the University of Dayton. She holds both a Ph.D. in Art History and Education and an M.F.A. in Fiber Art from the University of Arizona, Tucson. Bradshaw works primarily with the historically rich and labor-intensive processes of wet and needle-felting, quilting, and weaving. Her abstract felted landscape works physically and metaphorically bind together experiences of place, walking, and the literature of place to examine cultural and social constructs.
Rosario Parker Gordon: Object Drag
Nov 11 – 24
The Blue House Gallery
Object Drag: Mancrafts in the Garage, features objects that are conventionally associated with regional masculine activities in the North American Midwest. During my personal exploration into the perceived space of gendered craft, I coined the term ‘mancraft’, a call back to the “mancave”, to describe these regional masculine activities. Aspects of mancrafts such as making fishing lures, woodwork and taxidermy require a level of craft and attention to detail that, removed from their culturally specific context, would otherwise be coded as feminine. This creates friction between the perceived gendering of mancrafts- masculine within feminine, feminine within masculine; the boundaries are blurred.

Arts and Crafts Pottery of Marblehead
September 30, 2023 – January 7, 2024 Gallery 119
The Arts and Crafts Movement, which flourished around the turn of the 20th century, emphasized quality, beautiful designs and objects made by hand rather than machines. Marblehead Pottery (1904–1936), from Marblehead, Massachusetts, was an exemplary American manufacturer of arts and crafts pottery of the period. They produced restrained ceramic vases in velvety matte glazes in soothing colors of blue, gray, green, brown, salmon and yellow. Decorations are inspired by nature and feature stylized trees, vines and flowers, as well as sailing ships, which Marblehead used as the company’s icon. The colors and designs emphasize the universal appeal of harmony of line, shape and color. This exhibition features more than 70 exceptional works of Marblehead Pottery drawn from a local private collection.
Brukner Nature Center
Autumn Art Exhibit by J.C. Wheaton
Runs through Sunday, December 17, 2023
We invite you to come see our new art exhibit featuring the art of JC Wheaton who has been drawing and painting for roughly 13 years. Working mostly in acrylics, colored pencils, and fabric markers, his work is usually comprised of creatures of the natural world, surrounded by atmospheric design work. Most, or all, of his work also combines elements and iconography that pay tribute to his Northern California Native American heritage (Concow/Nomlaki), using patterns found in traditional basket weaving. J.C.’s art will be on sale through Sunday, December 17 and will be ready for pick-up at the end of the show. Proceeds from our seasonal art gallery support the awe-inspiring Wildlife Ambassador program at BNC.
