Main Library to Host Award-Winning Author Mindy McGinnis on July 8th

(Springfield, OH–)

Join us on Wednesday, July 8th at 6:30 p.m. in the Clark County Public Library – Main Library Gaier Room for an author talk with the award-winning, Mindy McGinnis.

The author will discuss her research for writing Under This Red Rock, a murder mystery set in the cavern systems of Ohio that explores themes of mental illness, examining the often-misunderstood behavior patterns of those who struggle. The program is highly focused on erasing the stigma of mental illness, and the importance of speaking out about mental health, as the author shares her own battles with depression and anxiety, as well as how they informed her process while working on the novel. This program is geared toward a teen and adult audience.

According to Sonya Knisley, Head of Children’s Services at the library, “We are incredibly happy to have Mindy back here in Springfield. Not only is she a terrific award-winning author, but she is also extremely down-to-earth, frank, and quite knowledgeable about mental health issues. I am hopeful that once people hear about her experiences and get a chance to speak with her, they will come away understanding there is no shame in mental illness and that it should be spoken about openly. Doing so could potentially help a great many.”

An Edgar Award winning author, McGinnis has authored multiple novels that span many genres. A ninth-generation farmer, Mindy attributes much of her character to growing up on an Ohio farm, learning the value of physical labor, and the harshness of the natural world early in life. Much of her writing reflects small-town living and aspects of rural poverty. A former school librarian, Mindy still lives and works in her hometown.

Copies of her books will be available for sale and signing at the session.
