Dangerous Dames of Dayton

Join fellow League of Women Voters members and supporters in honoring citizens who, like our “dangerous” sister suffragettes of old, have heroically worked to champion the ideals of a democratic society that work for ALL citizens of Greater Dayton.
This year we will be honoring Robyn Lightcap, Executive Director of Preschool Promise; Terra Fox Williams, President and CEO YWCA Dayton; and Mattie White, 1st Vice President Dayton Unit NAACP.

The term “Dangerous Dames” was coined in honor of the Dayton suffragists who marched and protested on the streets of Dayton and were deemed “dangerous to polite society.” These suffragists went on to become the founders of our League in 1920. For over 100 years, the Dayton League has been at the forefront of voters’ rights and human rights, and is a strong proponent of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
