More about the Exhibit
The Kintsugi Breast Cancer Photo Exhibit is the brainchild of Carolyn Reveal, a two time breast cancer survivor. Introduced to the ancient Japanese art of Kintsugi by her son, Carolyn was fascinated at the history and the philosophical intent of the art. The idea is to take something cracked, broken, or shattered and put it back together using a precious metal like gold. The traditional technique is a time consuming, often tedious process that may take months to complete. The breakage is treated as part of the object’s history, not something to disguise. Carolyn wondered if there was a way she could use Kintsugi as inspiration in her own cancer journey. Could she treat herself as a broken, cracked, scarred vessel that could be beautifully remade by having her scars painted with gold? In visiting this exhibit, you will have a glimpse into the world of breast cancer. Courageous breast cancer survivors used this art form as a healing tool. They began as raw, vulnerable, broken, uniquely scarred women who battled a formidable foe and emerged changed forever as they embraced their scars, flaws, and imperfections to create something stronger and more beautiful than before.
