Reefer Madness Auditions
March 4 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Prepare one minute of a Broadway-style song that demonstrates your vocal abilities and character. An accompanist and Bluetooth speaker will be provided.
Auditioners should also be prepared to learn a brief dance combination to demonstrate movement ability.
Please arrive early to fill out an audition form, which will include a listing of any conflicts between March 10 and the opening of the show on April 25.
About the Show:
Inspired by the original 1936 film of the same name, this raucous musical comedy takes a tongue-in-cheek look at the hysteria caused when clean-cut kids fall prey to the dangers of marijuana, leading them down a hysterical spiral filled with evil jazz music, sex, and violence.
Casting:
We are looking for diverse performers to build a strong ensemble for this highly stylized and satirical commentary.
Character Breakdown:
Jimmy Harper (18+ to play highschooler): A wholesome teenager who is lured into the dangerous world of marijuana
Mary Lane (18+ to play highschooler): Jimmy’s sweetheart, a naïve, virginal teenage girl
The Lecturer (30s-50s): Our narrator warning us about the perils of marijuana
Jack (30s-50s): Charismatic and ruthless owner of the reefer den
Mae (late 20s-40s): A fallen woman and mistress of the reefer den
Sally (20s): Sex kitten reefer addict, glamorous but seedy
Ralph (20s-40s): Ex-college kid who is now a hopeless, and somewhat unhinged, addict
Ensemble (various genders and vocal parts): Seeking dynamic performers to play a wide variety of roles throughout the show (reefer zombies, high school kids, orgy dancers, angels, patriotic citizens, etc.)
