Dayton fam – So many of you have shown an outpouring of love & support that is indescribably generous! Thank you! If you are unaffected and have not volunteered or donated in some way, I implore you to do so! At this point, volunteers are by far the greatest need in all communities. Dropped off donations are awesome, but these community centers need lots of help sorting supplies and our neighbors need immediate help moving to temporary housing. There are still families stranded without power, phone service of any kind, and a smashed in car. They are stuck. If you are comfortable, please do something to help!

NOTE: Officials cannot tell the difference between people who are coming to just look at the wreckage and people coming to help. If you are coming to look, you’re in the way. Bring some supplies with you and be helpful if you are curious.

VOLUNTEER NEEDS!

ALL VOLUNTEERS: It’s advised you bring SPF sun block, hand sanitizer, work gloves & wear sturdy shoes, regardless of the volunteer need below. Take care of yourself!

• • If you are cutting down debris, please wear closed toe shoes, good work gloves and a hat. Also bring if you have: lg garbage bags, zip ties, brooms, rakes, pruning shears, Fiskars, work tools, power tools, chain saws (with gas & oil). PLEASE MAKE SURE you get permission from homeowner to remove debris because they may need to clear that with their insurance company first.

Aid to all Neighborhoods: The Vineyard Church (4051 Indian Ripple Road Beavercreek) is organizing a massive non denominational effort to deploy people into neighborhoods that need help. The American Red Cross is asking for volunteers to help with recovery efforts. Volunteers are needed to help with multiple actions like distributing relief supplies, delivering meals and water, and more. A statement from the Red Cross says no training is necessary. Sign Up:

North West Dayton: There are 4 apartment complexes in the Shoup Mill Rd / Riverside Dr area (see map) – a  couple of which have been condemned and people need to get out ASAP! Also Westbrook Apts. Please bring plastic tubs, boxes, tape, trash bags, batteries, flashlights!

• If they need housing, take them to Corinthian Baptist Church for assistance.  The Miami Valley Community Action Partnership may also have information about housing: (937) 341-5000. Take them to any Red Cross Shelter in the meantime.

• • If the family needs temporary storage – they can get free storage in June and 1/2 price in July at Armor Self Storage at 5619 Poe Ave. They are also giving people a free lock. You can call ahead for availability: (937) 278-8866

Trotwood: The Trotwood City School district is partnering with the City of Trotwood to send volunteers into the city’s most affected neighborhoods. Anyone interested in helping with cleanup should meet in the high school (440 N Union Rd, Trotwood, OH 45426) back parking lot starting at 9 a.m. until Saturday. Shuttle buses will run back and forth between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. into the community to provide support. If you choose to volunteer, you are asked to bring a pair of work gloves and safety glasses. The city also says if you own a chainsaw that you can safely operate yourself, those are needed as well. Buses will shuttle volunteers in and out of the areas about every 45 minutes. Volunteers may leave their car at the high school. You are also welcome to bring any non-perishable items you wish to donate to the relief effort to the high school as well. Items will be collected and transported to shelters to assist with relief efforts.

Trotwood: I am told behind the RTA hub at Shiloh Springs & Denlinger, those folks do not have cell service, power or transportation. Please bring supplies to them – including prepared food.

Trotwood: Fire Station 72 at 5469 Little Richmond has received lots of supplies! Thank you! However they need help sorting & organizing supplies. You may want to call ahead to make sure they don’t have too many volunteers, inquire when they need help:  (937) 854-1726

DONATION NEEDS!

NOTE: Seeing lots of needs for toilet paper, paper towels, ice, snacks, baby & adult diapers, wipes of all kinds, underwear (all genders / ages), socks. In re to garments: it may be easier to get people a gift card to a store so they can buy their own.

Downtown: Diapers (size 3-5), wipes and pre-mixed formula are needed. The ladies at Heart Mercantile know who and how to get them to the areas and folks in need. Drop off to them at 38 E 5th St in the Oregon District.

Dayton Vineyard Church (4051 Indian Ripple Rd, Beavercreek): Open as emergency relief center through June 2nd (12 – 7 pm), distributing food and supplies. Accepting financial contributions and donations of water, non-perishable food (bread, peanut butter, jelly, etc.), snacks, and similar food that does not require cooking (granola bars, bananas, cans of tuna, crackers, etc.). Also need wipes, diapers/pull-ups, cleaning supplies, Gatorade, basic first-aid supplies. Drop off between 7 am – 9 pm in the church’s Family Life Center (red door entrance).
