Dayton will be feeling the effects of the failed school levy and subsequent fall-out for some time to come, and the school system’s budget situation has become a dark cloud over the city. But the following story proves that there are folks in this city (and region) that believe in the future and importance of at least one school in Dayton, and what seemed like a lost cause may just turn out to be a spectacular win.
Stivers School for the Arts is an exceptional school in both its students’ talent as well as their academic achievement. It also happens to be a Dayton Public School. With recent budget cuts, Stivers faced a crisis as most if not all adjunct teachers were to be eliminated – a proposition that would cause a deep wound if not totally jeopardize the acclaimed arts program there. But according to Scott Elliott of the DDN, a much needed miracle appears to have come just in the knick of time…

An unidentified donor who contributed $100,000 in support of Stivers School for the Arts has helped a fund-raising group take a huge step toward restoring adjunct arts faculty who were laid off due to budget cuts…

According to the article, the Seedling Foundation is not only looking for big donors, but also hoping to get smaller donations from the general public.
