The Dayton City Commission has appointed Verletta Jackson as their Chief of Staff. Ms. Jackson will lead the City Commission Office and provide policy direction to the Commission agencies.
Ms. Jackson joins the City Commission Office after 33 years with the City of Dayton, where she began as a Recreation Aide. Most recently, Ms. Jackson lead the newly created Community Engagement Division of the Department of Planning, Neighborhoods and Development where she built a team of staff responsible for engaging with Dayton residents. Over her time with the city, Ms. Jackson has led the Neighborhood Leadership Institute, EITC (the city’s free tax preparation program), and the Neighborhood Mini Grants program.
“Ms. Jackson is a lifelong public servant of the City of Dayton and her track record both within the community and at city hall speaks for itself,” said Dayton Mayor Jeffrey Mims. “She will be a natural fit in this new role and will also make history as the first African American woman to serve in this capacity. I look forward to her leadership in the very important work of improving our community.”
The Chief of Staff position replaces the Director of the City Commission Office, which is being vacated by Torey Hollingsworth.
