Update: The time has finally come and this weekend will be Azra’s last weekend at the 2nd Street Market.

From her August Facebook announcement:
After 22 wonderful years, I am retiring soon and I am very sad to leave a place that I have come to love and that I consider my second home.
The staff, vendors, and our customers have become close friends over the past two decades at the market, where I was often the first to arrive and turn the lights on, and the last to leave at the end of the day. Azra’s Mediterranean started out with just a small folding table and one chair-with lots of hard work and a lot of time and love invested into this business together with my family, friends, and staff it grow into a popular Dayton spot for lunch, pastries, cake and catering to celebrate big life events, and of course, weekend brunch.

Before I retire to work on a cookbook with our recipes – we are looking to find the right new owner of Azra’s Mediterranean Cuisine who will continue this successful business with the same food that we prepared with our family recipes. We want to give our dear customers the opportunity to continue gathering at the market to enjoy their favorite Mediterranean dishes made with fresh market produce. We hope to share our recipes as well as all our experiences here with the new owners. Please help us share the announcement and contact us if you are interested!

We hope that the business will continue to grow with someone who loves Mediterranean food and loves to cook for Daytonians as much as we have for over two decades here. Someone to whom this city and the market means as much as it does to us. We certainly want to thank Metroparks and the management of the Second Street Market for the support in starting and successfully building a small business- it’s one of the best places in the city to do so. We are deeply proud of the hard work, the effort, and the time we invested in the business, the people we made happy, the friends we’ve made, and all the other successes we’ve achieved here.

We’ve been able to share our culinary traditions here at the market, and the foods that have been prepared for centuries with the same recipes as our grandparents, which we carried with us across the ocean to another continent. We are deeply grateful to all customers and friends who have been visiting for decades-we will always have wonderful memories of our dear friends at the Second Street Market in Dayton!
