There’s a fairly new eatery in Miamisburg, serving up “the flavor of Mexico” according to their sign. They opened up quietly earlier this summer. According to the owners of Ta’Quiyo Tortilleria & Taco Shop,  they are know for their handcrafted street tacos, Quesa Birria and their Taquiyo chip tray!

When thinking of a name for the restaurant they wanted something with a good sound, that sounded fun, understandable to Mexicans and Americans (especially that they could pronounce it). Many ideas came up, but one day David jokingly said “El Taquillo” and  Sergio, who was  called “El Quiyo” when he was a kid morphedinto  “Ta-quiyo” came about.

Located in the strip mall that is also home to Big Lots, and the Handyman Ace Hardware, when you walk in the door you are greeted by a clean crisp dining room featuring bright colors on the walls and the feel of a true Mexican Cantina.  You order at the counter and your meal is brought out to you for dine in, or wrapped up for to-go orders.

They make their corn tortillas’s fresh each day on site, you can see the press against the far wall behind the counter. They are gluten free, with no preservatives.  You can pick up a 2 lb Pack of the tortillas for $4.

On my first visit I tried their Taco Combo: Two tacos Mexican (chicken- Seasoned diced chicken w/cabage, diced tomatoes sour cream and beef- seasoned ground beef w/cilantro and onions) rice and beans for lunch and they were quite tasty. Other options included Steak- Seasoned diced steak w/cilantro and onions, Pastor- Achiote pork, grilled pineapple w/cilantro and onions, Carnitas- Shredded pork w/pico de gallo and you choice of sauce or  Birria – Stewed beef w/cilantro and onions. They also offer a Ta’quiyo sampler with 6 mini tacos.  Sauces to spice up your meal include a mild green tomatillo, chipotle and and hot sauce.

Ta’quiyo Chip Tray  – Layer of chips w/up to 4 of your favorite toppings (listed below) Toppings: – Pico de gallo – Cilantro – Onions – Pickeled onions – Queso fresco – Sour cream – Diced tomatoes – Jalapeños – Lettuce. There is also the option to add Chicken, Carnitas, Steak, Ground Beef or Birria for a small upcharge.
Try their freshly made agua fresca, available in 3 flavors: Horchata, Hibiscos Flower and Cucumber mint.
Coolers full of bottled Coke products as well as authentic Mexican sodas line the wall across from the kitchen.
While we didn’t save room for dessert- we know for next time-they offer freshly made churros!
