I ran across this article on Cool Town Studios today, and it is a very interesting and progressive idea: A nonprofit commercial real estate service in Pittsburgh is seeking out "cool spaces" for businesses that are looking for, well – cool spaces to put their business in.
Think DDP’s SiteSeeker program, but that focuses on businesses like Hafenbrack Marketing and buildings like the Kuhns Building. Look how many other "cool buildings" we have in Downtown Dayton and you can quickly imagine a Dayton Cool Space Locator service. Though many businesses are choosing to locate in the suburbs to be closer to their employees and further from the urban challenges (parking & crime perceptions), there are COOL businesses like Hafenbrack Marketing, BGH Studios and many others who thrive on the creative nature of these old buildings and the urban life outside of them. By creating a service to bring these COOL businesses and COOL buildings together, perhaps Dayton could see more and more of the vacant buildings we have begin to fill up with businesses and people that
WANT to be here.
