Local natural hair salon & boutique, Puff Apothecary’s founder and owner, Bethany Ramsey, has announced the addition of a new stylist, Asha Parson as the Salon Coordinator. Parson will join the team of three. With the addition of Parson, Puff Apothecary will double their availability to better serve the growing demand for natural hair services. Parson specializes in locs, braiding and other protective styling.
Asha Parson received her cosmetology license in 2012. “As the oldest of five, I developed a passion for doing hair when I started helping my mother with my sibling’s hair” explained Parson.
Puff Apothecary meets clients wherever they are in their natural hair journey and the owner found her lane in natural hair after doing the big chop 14 years ago. Their stylists focus on servicing and caring for natural hair by detangling, cleansing and moisturizing hair with plant-based products from Black owned businesses they wholesale and also sell in their boutique. Their stylists use techniques that include defining curls and they offer services for locs and braids.
“People come to us because we specialize in natural hair but also because we offer a special experience. We are knowledgeable, personable and prioritize having a space where people can have a self-care moment. I think now more than ever people want to connect with someone they can trust and also do something nice for themselves. We’ve been fortunate we can provide both for our clients.” said Ramsey
Puff Apothecary is a natural hair salon and boutique that was started in 2017 as a retail boutique only. Bethany Ramsey, the founder and owner, decided to add a salon and in 2019 she secured and renovated 605 E 5th St in the Oregon District. Since then, their staff has weathered the storm of Dayton’s tumultuous 2019 and now through the pandemic.
Beyond expanding their team, Puff Apothecary has also added Youth services specifically designed for families seeking help supporting their child’s natural hair. These services give children an opportunity to be in a safe space where they can grow their confidence about their natural hair and gain independence on learning to do their own hair into adolescence.
“We have families new to caring for natural hair. Families from different cultural backgrounds (adoptive or foster) who have little to no education on caring for and styling natural hair. We offer enough time that parents and caregivers can engage with us and ask questions. And we have a semi-private space that can be comfortable for young people.” says Jacqui Martin, Puff Apothecary’s Advanced Cosmetologist.
“We’re excited to be growing and that Asha has joined the Puff team. She and our entire staff enjoys and deeply cares about helping others see the beauty in their natural hair.”
