There’s a new breakfast joint in Miamisburg. Rye Toast opened quietly last week at 1015 S. Main Street, in the building that formerly housed Star City BBQ. Chef Tom Tiner and his wife Connie bought the building and after years of working in corporate kitchens, they finally have their own place. He said he’d driven by it many times and when the BBQ joint closed in September of 2018 he had called the owner and chatted with him. As the pandemic changed things, he kept thinking about it, and finally made the decision to become his own boss.
In explaining the logo, Chef Tiner shared that it pays homage to his late father, highlighting his initials R and T. His dad was a marine then served as a sheriff in Waco, Texas who loved to paint. The green behind Rye Toast represents a roller brush, while the circle around the initials is done with a brush. The 1820 was his father’s call tag used over the radio for police business.
They’ll be serving up breakfast and lunch Tuesday through Saturday and this past Sat I had a chance to dine with them. I ordered the 1/2 portion of biscuits and gravy with scrambled eggs and your choice of bacon or sausage for just 7.25. The biscuits were fluffy and buttery, the gravy was definitely home made. Chef Tiner explained if they can make it in house, they will, with the exception of their breads, which will be supplied by Klosterman Bakery.
Chef Tiner’s background in senior living facilities and hospitals had him adhering to menu’s created by dietitian’s and corporate chefs, so the freedom to create his own menu’s is one of the best things about having his own place. But he did add that he was able to hire one of his former cooks DeLonda, he’d worked with her for 5 years and having an employee he knows and trusts is a huge asset. He hopes to eventually have a second location she can manage.

Rye Toast Lunch Menu:
Chef Tiner expects to add a few more classics to the lunch menu over time including a hot pastramia and a Russian sandwich. He’d also like to do some parking lot parties, growing up in Texas he says he makes a mean BBQ and he knows his way around a Carolina pig picking and could even see come clam bakes in the future. But in the meantime, head on out to Rye Toast and tell them DaytonDining sent you!
