Children and adults of all ages can welcome spring with kite stories, kite building, kite flying and other free hands-on educational opportunities during Family Day from 9 am-3 pmon April 11, 2015, at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force.
Demonstration stations throughout the day will teach visitors about the types of kites and the properties of air and flying. “Storytime” begins at 11:30 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. in the Early Years Gallery. Preschool and primary-grade children are invited to sit under the wings of airplanes to hear stories about kites and do a craft project.
Participants can make their own kites during this month’s Aerospace Adventure from 1:30-3 p.m. in the event area next to the Korean War Gallery. Paper kites are free, but there is a $2.50 charge for plastic sled kites. Outdoor kite flying will be available (weather permitting).
The National Museum of the U.S. Air Force, located at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base near Dayton, Ohio, is the world’s largest military aviation museum.
