Artist Jes McMillan of The Mosaic Institute is the driving force behind the new East Dayton Arts District.
The new arts district is bounded by E. Monument Avenue, N. Findlay St., Xenia Avenue, and Wayne Avenue and Webster Street. Inside those boundaries you’ll find Color of Energy Gallery, Missing Peace Art Space, Stivers School for the Arts, High Street Gallery, Crane Studios Market, TL Brown Photography, LLC, city wide studios, Gem City Catfe, Yellow Cab Tavern, Hamilton Dixon’s studio, Dayton Society of Artists, Proto BuildBar and Marsha Pippenger’s gallery. Plus there is the Front Street Building and the Davis-Linden Building, both of which include numerous art studios and creative spaces.
This week Jes and two associates were painting a mural at one of the entrances to the East Dayton Arts District, on the train overpass on First Street near Keowee. Jes gave me a ride in the lift they’d rented so that I could get this photo above.
