HoofPrints Launches Mental Wellness Program Using Horses As Therapy

August 20, 2022 By Lisa Grigsby

A brand new nonprofit has just launched that will partner horses, mental health professionals and equine specialists to share the healing power of horses. HoofPrints will offer a much different experience than traditional talk therapy using Equine-assisted psychotherapy (EAP), to bring people outdoors and offers an opportunity to use all senses while learning and processing through emotional challenges.

Co-Founders Kathy Corbbett & Jennifer Dean met while working with horses and decided to launch HoofPrint to foster physical, emotional, and behavioral growth through equine assisted activities. Kathy has served those with physical, cognitive, and emotional challenges for over 30 years as a PATH Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor at various centers across the country. She looks forward to using her PATH Equine Specialist in Mental Health and Learning along with her recent Certification through the EAL Academy to partner with the horses and mental health professionals to bring wellness programs to our community.

Jen is a graduate of the University of Dayton with a Masters’s degree in Public Administration. Her varied background working in non-profit organizations from arts & culture to social service brings a diverse skill set to manage the business operations and development side of the organization. She lives the equestrian lifestyle on herr farm with four horses. She shares, “the creation of a relationship with a horse can make you feel good about yourself. Just as they do with those afflicted with life-challenging mental and emotional wounds, horses can provide anyone with the opportunity to experience valuable feelings of unconditional self-acceptance and positive
self-esteem.”

HoofPrints will offer programs programs for kids (8 years and up), teenagers, adults, couples, and families. These programs are conducted by a Licensed Mental Health Professional and a Certified Equine Specialist. Each lesson is approximately 1 hour. These lessons are unmounted, no riding. Riding may be added later when students have progressed to reach their goals.

For more information on their programs, check out their website.
