The Montgomery County Prevention Coalition (MCPC) is a proud partner of Naloxone Awareness Day – a day to honor lives lost, support those in recovery, and empower communities to take action against the opioid crisis. It has become a national movement with the intent to increase awareness of and access to Naloxone, a life-saving medication that can reverse opioid overdoses. This year’s Naloxone Awareness Day is on Saturday, June 6.
The MCPC is honoring the day with two local events on June 6. At both events, attendees will have the opportunity to receive a free kit including Naloxone, gloves, and a face mask, while supplies last. Trainers will be available at both events to show the public how to use the life-saving medication. Attendees can drop in anytime between 10 a.m. and noon to receive their training and pick-up their free Naloxone kit. Individuals must complete the brief training to receive their kit.

“Montgomery County has drastically reduced the number of overdose deaths over the last ten years. said Megs Francis, Manager of the Montgomery County Prevention Coalition. “The community has really pulled together to identify gaps, discuss challenges, and bring evidence-based resources to those that need it most. Harm reduction tools like Naloxone dissemination have proven to be effective and life-saving for our community.”
Community members who cannot attend either of Saturday’s events but would like to request a Naloxone kit can visit the Project Dawn website to find a location nearest to them.
