At age 14 Sammy Bowman began working with Voltzy at his Root Beer Stand helping him with catering. After graduating from Miamisubrg High School she began working with him full time and as Voltzy’s health declined she ran his place for him.
She describes their relationship as family, with him essentially acting as her grandpa and boss. “Since most of you know Rick passed away ( in Feb of 2021) in February this year after a long battle of health issues. He left me the honor to carry on his legacy, which i couldn’t think of a better thing to do to honor my best friend!
And carry on she has. After losing the lease at the Moraine location Sammy was able to find and purchase Voltzy’s trailer, the one he ran the business out of until the Moraine building was ready for its grand opening in 2009. She’s been out and about with the trailer at festivals this past summer.
And she’s just announced she’ll be running the burger business out of the trailer at the Action Sports Center on Gateway Drive Monday – Friday from noon – 4pm.
The menu will feature some of the favorite’s from back in the day, including the The “Betty Ann” pictured below.
Here’s the menu she’ll be serving up all winter:
