Kathy and Greg Klein are opening a gelato shop in downtown Miamisburg, across from the Plaza Theatre. Tom & Dots Gelato Shop is named after Kathy’s grandparents, who operated a root beer stand in Indiana. The shop, which will feature over 15 flavors of gelato and sorbetto (which is dairy free) is set to open on Saturday, June 3rd.
For those not familiar Gelato is a frozen treat made from milk, cream, and sweetener. Gelato is made with less cream and more milk than ice cream, so it has less fat. The texture of gelato is thick and dense because it is slow-churned to allow less air into the mix.
The store will feature gelato sandwiches. Kathy says, “If peanut butter and jelly is your thing, you will love our peanut butter cookies with strawberry gelato! Chocolate lovers will go crazy for the mint gelato with decadent chocolate cookies!
Are you a traditionalist? Our chocolate chip cookies with Madagascar Vanilla Bean are not like any other! Finally, the Argentinian Sea Salt Carmel gelato sandwiches between two soft snickerdoodle cookies will delight your sweet tooth!”
Another treat they’ll be offering Afagato.
An affogato , more traditionally known as “affogato al caffe” (Italian for “drowned in coffee”), is an Italian coffee-based dessert. It will be made with a scoop Madagascar vanilla bean gelato “drowned” with a shot of hot espresso.
This weekends grand opening will feature 15 flavors to choose from!
