The Dayton Art Institute’s Veterans Community Day on Friday, November 11, honors all military veterans by welcoming the entire community to enjoy free admission all day, with access to our Special Exhibition, American Myth & Memory: David Levinthal Photographs, and Focus Exhibition, Joe Fig: Other Artists, along with the museum’s extensive collection of American, Asian and European fine and decorative art.
DAI, also a Blue Star Museum, is among more than 2,000 museums across the country, through a collaboration with the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, and the Department of Defense, that offers free access to the museum throughout the summer for military families.

Featured Artwork: Kenneth Noland (American, 1924–2010), The Seasons, 1958, oil and soak stain on unprimed canvas. Gift of Stuart and Christine Rose, 2001.54.
“DAI has a tradition of serving and giving back to military personnel and their families, said Director and CEO Michael Roediger. “As a Blue Star Museum, military families visiting DAI have created memories through shared experiences with our art, cultural activities and events. I’m proud to offer another opportunity for our staff and volunteers to serve our veterans and the entire community,” said Roediger.
DAI’s last community day was celebrated during Pride month. Over 900 visitors came through the museum to enjoy art and cultural activities. Roediger added, “Community Days are a great way for people to see and experience all that we offer to everyone. It’s exciting when we see guests come back to enjoy the diversity of our art collection.”
In addition to touring the DAI’S collection and Special and Focus Exhibitions, Veterans Community Day guests can view a curated list of artworks by artists that were in the military or painted depictions of conflict in history.
