I met Brett Smith when I stopped by Branch & Bone Artisan Ales (905 Wayne). Brett is the founder and head brewer. I had never visited Branch and Bone before, but a lot of other people have already found this brewer that opened in June. I arrived just fifteen minutes after they opened one day and the place was already packed.
I visited to try a new beer called Pretzel Queen, which was made in partnership with Smales Pretzel Bakery. “I wanted to make a Kvass style beer,” Brett told me. “Traditionally, in Central Europe, that type of beer is made with rye bread. We made this one with rye malt and the famous Smales pretzel.”
Behind Brett you can see 12 taps. Each holds a different beer brewed at Branch and Bone. The offerings change regularly, Brett told me, as he tries new beers. My favorite beer name the day I visited was “Last Week’s Was Better.”
