The New-England Boy’s Song about Thanksgiving Day, also known as “Over the River and Through the Wood”, is a Thanksgiving poem originally published in 1844 in Flowers for Children. Although many people sing “to grandmother’s house we go”, the author’s original words were “to grandfather’s house we go” and many people also mistakenly refer to the “Wood” in the song as plural “Woods” rather than singular.

 Boy Erased, the powerful new film, opens on Wednesday at The Neon.
 The 40th Annual Turkey Trot is a 5 mile run that starts and finishes in beautiful downtown Miamisburg on Thanksgiving morning. It also features a costume contest and a one mile Fun Walk.
 The Dayton Holiday Festival returns to downtown Dayton beginning Friday with the Grande Illumination and Dayton Children’s Parade Spectacular in Lights! The fun kicks off from 4 to 9 pm. and continues throughout December.
 The Tike’s Shoppe officially opens at 3pm, Friday during the Dayton Holiday Festival,.
 The MetroParks Ice Rink officially opens on Friday. MetroParks Ice Rink has beautiful views of the scenic Great Miami River in downtown Dayton and is the region’s largest outdoor ice skating rink. Admission to the MetroParks Ice Rink is $5 daily, and visitors can rent ice skates for $2.
The McPherson Town has ten beautiful historic homes decorated in holiday splendor that you can visit on Friday & Saturday.
The Floral Firing. Every piece is decorated with some sort of flower. Some are abstract, many are detailed interpretations of flowers from the garden… some even have birds and bees!
Friday – Sunday November 23-25, 10am to 5pm; Friday- Sunday November 30, December 1-2, 10am to 5pm.
 The Last Waltz was the final live performance by The Band on November 25, 1976. It lives on thanks to Martin Scorsese who was on hand that night to film this epic concert. Decades later in Dayton and in cities all across the nation, an annual tradition has blossomed. At the Schu on Saturday at 8pm the Dayton Philharmonic welcomes over thirty local musicians for an outstanding night of music.
And one of the musicians is “Steve Makofka, accordion.”

 Kick off the 100th anniversary celebration of women’s suffrage with gifts from the Ohio History museum store. From 1912-1917, this vintage poster design was used by the Ohio Women Suffrage Association to help spread the word about the fight for women’s right to vote. 
The Contemporary Dayton’s Holiday Gift Gallery features fine art and craft by 50+ local artists. It is available to December 22.
 This new Nature, Recreation, Community, snow globe is available at Agnes & Orson in downtown Dayton and DeClarks at Town & Country in Kettering.

 Would you like to see a memento from your life, your community, or your business placed into an artwork permanently displayed at the Dayton Metro Library?
Michelle Stitzlein, an artist from central Ohio, has been commissioned to create a large art installation for the Park Reading Room in the Main Library in downtown Dayton. She is now seeking locally-sourced, found, reused and/or recycled materials that reflect the Montgomery County community to incorporate into the artwork. Please bring items for donation to the Main Library, 215 E. Third Street, and drop them in the red bin in the Opportunity Space @ Patterson. Stitzlein will pick up all donated items on Friday, December 14. Contact her at [email protected] to arrange a pickup at your place of business on that day, if needed. I’m going to drop the coin off!

Dayton History announced the iconic swimming pool light tower from Old River Park-a recreational area built in 1939 by National Cash Register (NCR)-has been successfully moved and restored at Carillon Historical Park.
