The Werks present Werksgiving at The Brightside in Dayton, OH on Wednesday November 23rd, with special guest Dizgo!
Who’s Running The Miamisburg Turkey Trot?
The course runs straight from the start for 1/4 mile before crossing over rail road tracks. Please be careful! We’ve been promised a closed track *but* if you hear whistles and clanging bells: STOP!
-
At 1/3 of a mile, the course turns 90 degrees right. Last year worked because people were courteous and careful so thank you! Please do just as you did last year.
-
At 1/2 mile the course turns left, this is where your hill begins. Yes, it gets bigger from here, although when asked last year most runners replied, “What Hill?”
-
This is where the fun starts, turn right onto Vanguard and continue up what passes for a hill in Miamisburg. The summit is the 1 mile mark!
-
You may now start your long, lazy descent for entire next mile.
-
At 2 miles, turn left onto Dixie Highway. PLEASE stay on the LEFT side of the road. This is the only section with two-way traffic and it’s only 300 feet, but it’s very crowded.
-
Go past the sewage treatment plant, because it would not be the Turkey Trot without a pass by the sewage treatment plant, and then continue to the far entrance (2nd) into Rice Field.
-
You are HALF WAY when you turn right into Rice Field. This is the only WATER STOP – but, there are Porta-Johns here too!
-
Continue into a lazy turn behind the ball fields. Here the course narrows and we have a TIMING MAT. Make sure you PASS OVER the mat, because if you do not, you will not have officially run the race.
-
Turn left back onto Dixie at the northern entrance next to the sewage treatment plant. PLEASE stay to your LEFT; this is the two-way section heading back.
-
You now have a straight shot all the way back to downtown. Make sure you stay right at the split in the road.
-
Back at the start-line, you will turn left and go a block further. Now make a quick right onto Water Street where you will see the finish banner!
-
You will have 1-milers on your left, so please stay right!
-
The FINISH is on Water Street – so make sure you throw up your hands and whoop as you cross the mat.
-
CONGRATULATIONS! You will have finished the 44th Annual ORRRC/City of Miamisburg Turkey Trot
-
-
-
There is NO RACE DAY REGISTRATION.

Legally Blonde – The Musical at The Schuster
Fabulously fun and international award-winning LEGALLY BLONDE – THE MUSICAL is the ultimate Broadway tribute to girl power! The story follows the transformation of Elle Woods as she tackles stereotypes, sexism, snobbery and scandal in pursuit of her dreams, and proves that you can be legally blonde and STILL the smartest person in the room. This contemporary, sassy musical moves at a breakneck pace driven by memorable songs and explosive dances. LEGALLY BLONDE – THE MUSICAL warms the heart by proving that self-discovery can be way too much fun and hilarious to boot.
Elle Woods appears to have it all. Her life is turned upside down, however, when her boyfriend dumps her so he can start getting more serious about his life and attend Harvard Law. Determined to get him back, Elle uses her ingenuity and charm to get into Harvard too. School begins with endless struggles, but with the help of her new friends, Elle quickly realizes her potential, and her true assets, as she sets out to prove herself to the world and make everyone a believer.
Based on the beloved movie, LEGALLY BLONDE – THE MUSICAL will take you from the sorority house to the halls of justice with Broadway’s brightest new heroine and, of course, her Chihuahua, Bruiser.

Grand Opening for Urbana Brewing Co
Under the leadership of three long-time Urbana residents, Jason Kile, Neal Pence, and Jamon Sellman, Urbana Brewing Co. hopes to build up a burgeoning nightlife in the small town, and ultimately attract beer lovers from across the Miami Valley.
“I started with a two-gallon Mr. Beer kit, bought at a local drugstore,” Pence, the head brewer said, when describing his transition from hobbyist brewer to business partner. “Quickly I expanded there to five gallons system and most recently I was brewing on what’s known as a half-barrel system.”
At Urbana Brewing Co. his output will expand tenfold, but Pence said the basics remain the same. “You start with hot water, you mix in grain, you take the liquid off, you add in your flavors and hops and then you let the yeast do their magic,” he said. “Mankind has been doing it for as far back in history as we can really see.”
When the brewery gets up and running, Pence wants that process to be on full display, with his brewing system featured prominently on the main floor, along with a family-friendly set of games, while those looking for a quieter atmosphere can head upstairs to the furnished rooftop.
At the center of the experience though, Pence wants to make sure his beer shines.
“The bar ends up being your focal point for any good brewery,” he said.
An engineer, Pence said he came to Urbana about 20 years ago for his first job in his field, decades later, he’s proud to call the city his home.
“I’ve always been a small-town person at heart and I just love what Urbana has to offer,” he said.
The above was originally posted by Michelle Alfini of Spectrum News.
It’s grand opening weekend for the brewery, starting at noon Friday, Nov 18th.
Urbana Brewing Co will be operating under a self service model. You’ll order your beer and food at the bar, your beer will be poured then, you’ll be notified when your food is ready.
Crowlers and growlers will not be available during grand opening weekend, but look for them in the near future.

Ekoostik Hookah with special guests Subterranean
Two beloved, long-running Ohio psychedelic rock bands, Ekoostik Hookah and Subterranean, are back at The Brightside on Friday, November 18th. This much anticipated concert has become an annual tradition that local music fans look forward to.
This year, in particular, is special because the drummer for Subterranean recently underwent a life saving organ transplant. This is Rob’s first show back to the stage! Ekoostik Hookah’s lead guitarist has also had some recent health issues. The great news is that both bands are healthy – and can’t wait to get back to the stage doing what they love. It’s particularly special that they are performing here in Dayton for this comeback show.
“The Brightside is one of our favorite venues to play, and being able to bring Ekoostik Hookah in really makes for a special evening,” Subterranean’s guitarist Chris Coalt shared with us. “This is the 3rd annual year for this show and we plan on keeping the tradition going.”
To add to the fun, local food truck Phat & Rich will be on site selling food during the show.

The Wednesday before Thanksgiving is known as one of the biggest bar nights of the year. This year, The Brightside is hosting the biggest party of them all with the annual Werksgiving concert event, featuring The Werks! If you’re not familiar, they are a nationally touring rock band that formed in Dayton, and this is their yearly big hometown concert.
This year they are joined by Dizgo, an up-and-coming band from Bloomington, Indiana. Both bands will take the Ballroom stage at The Brightside located at 905 E 3rd St in downtown Dayton on Wednesday, November 23rd.
For those who get hungry during the show, the beloved food truck Phat & Rich will be on site serving up their famous Tex-Mex inspired dishes.
Doors open at 7:30pm. All ages are welcome. Pre-sale tickets are $20 – and available here: https://werkoutpresents.ticketspice.com/werksgiving2022. At door, the cost is $25.
About The Werks
From the hungry young quartet that emerged out of Dayton, OH in 2005 to the mature, road-tested group they are now, The Werks are returning to their roots to reconnect with their identity. With over a decade’s worth of The Werk Out Festivals to their name, five studio albums, and a passport stamped with sets at Electric Forest, Summer Camp, The Peach, High Sierra, The Hang Out, and more, The Werks are bringing their musical wisdom and experience into a new chapter. The four-piece jam-funk meets livetronica act was proud to welcome back original bassist Chuckie Love to the band in 2021, joining fellow founders Rob Chafin (drums/vocals) and Chris Houser (guitar/vocals) who play alongside Dan Shaw (keyboards). With Love back in the group, The Werks have tapped into the communal spark that birthed the band almost two decades ago, emerging with a renewed sense of purpose. Simply put, they are more of The Werks than ever before.
As they transition into this next chapter, The Werks are reaffirming their focus on live performances. With this rededication to the road, the band will come armed with a new studio album, their first since 2017’s Magic. Fans can look forward to the long-awaited full-length Sonder LP, the arrival of which signifies yet another artistic awakening for The Werks. With their 20th anniversary on the horizon, The Werks’ commitment to one another, to their fans, and to their craft strengthens with each passing note.
About Dizgo
Dizgo is a three-piece electro-psychedelic-funk-rock band from Bloomington, IN. Since their formation in 2016, the band has built a strong following, packing rooms and building a name for themselves in the jam circuit. Known for their electrifying performances, the band reels in their audience with a unique blend of funky, electronic rock-shredding guitar, synth-driven grooves, and ethereal vocals.

$500,000 in improvements for Triangle Park
The City of Dayton announces the newest investment of Dayton Recovery Plan funds following the Nov. 16 City Commission approval of a $500,000-plus contract for improvements at historic Triangle Park.
A $577,118 contract for installation of new infrastructure and amenities as well as demolition of obsolete facilities at the 61.5-acre park was awarded to Double Jay Construction, LLC. The Triangle Park upgrades consist of:
- Installation of two new park shelters;
- Removal of nine obsolete shelters and one restroom building;
- Installation of new modular restrooms;
- Installation of fitness equipment, picnic tables and pathways.
The project is scheduled for completion in July of 2023. The City of Dayton Department of Public Works will oversee the contract, which has a minority business enterprise participation rate of 25.19 percent.
The planned enhancements continue the ongoing improvement of Triangle Park in north Dayton, one of the largest City of Dayton-owned parks. In 2015, the historic Howell Field baseball facility was rededicated following renovations supported by the Cincinnati Reds (Howell Field has been home to many of Dayton’s finest college, high school and amateur baseball for more than 55 years). In July of 2022, an all-new, four-acre dog park was opened for use at Triangle Park. The park was also the site of the first-ever NFL game, played by the Dayton Triangles and the Columbus Panhandles in 1920.
About the Dayton Recovery Plan
The Dayton Recovery Plan is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to address the infrastructure, economic and equity issues that exist in the city by using a data-driven approach to analyze socio-economic, health, and demographic data to make informed funding decisions. These investments directly impact minority communities disproportionately impacted by the pandemic and long-standing economic and social inequities in Dayton. The Dayton Recovery Plan is our city’s innovative plan to utilize our $138 million share of the American Rescue Plan Act funds, the largest grant in Dayton’s history. Shrimp Cocktail for 75 cents, an 18 0z Porterhouse Steak for 3.75, lobster tail for $2.75 and 25 cents for Stewed Tomatoes. Yep, that’s what you’ll pay at The Pine Club if you’re lucky enough to receive one of their Golden Menu’s as part of the restaurants 75th anniversary.
“Stepping into The Pine Club is like stepping back in time,” says Pine Club General Manager Karen Watson. “We’re definitely not in the habit of changing things up that much over here, but 75 years is a big accomplishment and we thought it would be fun to offer up something special like this Golden Menu to our loyal guests.”

Golden Menu
Among the other items from the 1947 Menu are dishes, Broiled Lamb Chops for $2.85, Chopped Beef Tenderloin Steak for $2.10, the Pine Club House Salad for $0.35, and a $0.25 Baked Potato. A full dinner menu will be posted in the restaurant, along with a 1947 drink menu, so guests can have a little idea of how things were three quarters of a century ago.
The Pine Club, which famously does not take reservations, is open Monday-Saturday starting at 4:00 PM. One Golden Menu will be “hidden” each night in the regular menus, so all guests have an equal chance of receiving 1947 pricing. Each Golden Menu is good for one appetizer, entree, side and/or salad per person at the table. This promotion will run through the end of the year.

Popeyes New Blackened Chicken Sandwich

The Blackened Chicken Sandwich features a juicy antibiotic-free, whole chicken breast marinated for 12 hours, cooked up to seal in the bold Cajun and Creole seasoning and then served fresh atop a warm, toasted buttery brioche bun with house classic or spicy mayo and crunchy barrel-cured pickles.
The new Popeyes Blackened Chicken Sandwich will run $4.99. Popeyes Rewards members will receive 200 bonus points – good for free regular fries on their next order – when ordering the sandwich on the Popeyes App or on Popeyes.com.
The Popeyes Culinary Team spent four years perfecting its version of the classic Blackening cooking technique, which originated in Louisiana and is used to better seal in seasoning and spices to flavor the meat, which then develops a subtle browned or blackened crust.
Popeyes is so confident its Blackened Chicken Sandwich can’t be surpassed by potential copycats, it launched a new campaign today sharing ingredients in the sandwich while inviting competitors and fans alike to make a version of their own and “Copy This.”
