Starbucks Gets Wicked with Movie-Inspired Drinks & Merch

October 24, 2024 By Dayton937

In a collaboration with Universal Pictures, Starbucks has released new drinks and merchandise to celebrate the upcoming release of “Wicked,” the book-turned-musical-turned-movie prequel to “The Wizard of Oz.”

With the movie premiere just a month away, Starbucks has added “Elphaba’s Cold Brew,” a peppermint cold brew topped with matcha cold foam and green sprinkles, and “Glinda’s Pink Potion,” a Mango Dragonfruit Refresher shaken with coconut milk and freeze-dried dragonfruit topped with non-dairy strawberry cold foam and pink sprinkles.

To further celebrate the release, Starbucks will add 16 new tumblers, cold cups, and mini cup keychains to their merch shelves on Nov. 7, inspired by the film’s main characters — the good witch Glinda and the wicked witch Elphaba — the City of Oz, and the pink and green color scheme. In addition, Starbucks will expand its “Discovery Series Collection,” which makes mugs featuring the names of prominent locations, to include Munchkinland, the Emerald City, and Shiz University, all fictional settings in the film.

Additionally, the coffee chain will have new Emerald City-inspired gift cards available for purchase in-store and through the app, with a special gold-colored mini card that doubles as a keychain with a minimum $50 load.

The movie is scheduled to come out Nov. 22 of this year, with “Wicked Part Two” scheduled to premiere Nov. 21, 2025.

October 22, 2024 By Dayton937

As Halloween excitement builds, Candy Funhouse, the leading online retailer of unique candy and snacks from around the globe, unveils its highly anticipated list of the Top 10 Halloween Treats for 2024. From timeless classics to the latest candy trends, this year’s selection promises to delight trick-or-treaters and candy lovers of all ages.

Candy Funhouse's Top 10 Halloween Treats for 2024

1) Kit Kat Ghost Toast
2) Nerds Gummy Clusters
3) Sour Patch Kids
4) Reese’s Lava Big Cup
5) Frankford’s Gummy Body Part
6) Brach’s Candy Corn
7) Skittles
8) M&M’s
9) Twix
10) Snickers (CNW Group/Candy Funhouse)

With 93% of Americans planning to share candy and chocolate this Halloween, according to the National Confectioners Association, competition for the top spots on Candy Funhouse’s list has been fierce. Based on a combination of the most popular, social engagement and candyologist® picks, the 2024 list strikes a perfect balance between nostalgic favorites and exciting new sweets.

Candy Funhouse‘s Official Top 10 Halloween Treats for 2024:

  1. Kit Kat Ghost Toast: A classic KitKat with a cinnamon-flavored creme twist.
  2. Nerds Gummy Clusters: A multi-sensory treat that’s always a fan favorite.
  3. Sour Patch Kids: Perfect for trick-or-treaters who crave a sour, then sweet, experience.

“We expected some of the usual suspects like Nerds Clusters and Skittles, but I was definitely surprised to see Ghost Toast from Kit Kat break into the top ranks,” said Dave Theodoropoulos, CMO of Candy Funhouse. “What also caught my attention was Candy Corn making the list—despite being one of the most polarizing candies out there. You either love it or you hate it!”

A recent survey highlights the strong preferences candy corn lovers have when enjoying this iconic treat: 57% eat the whole piece in one bite, 28% start with the narrow white tip, and 15% begin with the wider yellow end. These divided opinions underscore the unique status of candy corn in the Halloween candy landscape.

As Americans gear up for Halloween, with 97% of households expecting trick-or-treaters planning to hand out candy, with 73% opting for mini-sized treats.

Dayton Salsa Project

October 22, 2024 By Dayton937

Dayton’s own community Salsa band returns The Hidden Gem this Friday, Oct 25th at 8pm.

From the vibrant, growing Hispanic population of Dayton, the interest of Daytonians in Latin-American culture, and a love of music that brings people together, the Dayton Salsa Project (DSP) was born. Founded in August 2018 by local musicians, half Dayton-born with the rest hailing from Puerto Rico, Colombia, and Peru.

The mission of the Dayton Salsa Project is to use music as the means to break barriers and promote inclusion by showcasing how musicians from diverse traditions and cultural backgrounds can get together in one accord. We aim to become ambassadors of Dayton’s diverse community, modeling the values of cultural diversity and inclusion, and sharing the rich history of Salsa at local, state, and national cultural events. Many of us played in other bands that would perform in neighboring large cities like Columbus and Cincinnati only to meet people from Dayton who traveled in search of Salsa music and dancing. It only made sense to make Dayton our official band hometown where we can celebrate the diversity and musicality of Salsa by performing popular classics from the 1970’s and 80’s.

Come out and dance the night away to the beat of salsa, bachata & merengue.

Doors 7pm, $10, all ages
