Sueno is celebrating the Cinco de Mayo holiday a bit early this year, with a Sunday May 3rd event planned for this weekend from noon to 7pm. On hand again this year are Dayton favorites Frank Calzada and Friends to kick off the live music entertainment with sets at 1pm and 2:30p.Sue
Following the high-energy eclectic local group will be community staple and longtime Sueno collaborators, the Dayton Salsa Project, playing two sets at 4pm and 5:30p. “There’s something special about playing Sueno’s Cinco celebration — you’ve got incredible food, people ready to dance, and a room that feels alive from the first note. We love being part of a day that brings the community together through our mix of Salsa, Bachata, and Latin Jazz,” says Luke Geieshop, trumpet player
Managing partner Chris Dimmick on the rest of the details:
“Our incredible Executive Sous Chef Hannah Cranmer and her team have taken our culinary program to new heights in the last year, and they’ll be flexing some creative muscles with this year’s all-you-can-eat Taco Bar. We’ll have some vegan and vegetarian options as well as Mexican street food staples and a dessert bar. Guests can grab tickets to reserve a table with a specific reservation time from noon to our last seating at 6pm, come on in and hang out for the party. It’s a lively, energetic change of pace for us every year, with the music flowing and the dancing that comes with it.” The event is priced at $35, and can be booked online.

Sueno Bar Manager Gabriel Prado is also stirring up some new seasonal cocktails specials, many featuring the spirits of Dayton-owned Viva Agave, the event’s annual presenting sponsor. He’ll also be hosting 45-minute Tequila and Agave Tasting Classes, an intimate and educational journey through 5 pours of uniquely aged and produced agave spirits, held at the main bar of Tender Mercy, just below the restaurant. Tickets can purchased as an “add-on” at checkout after selecting your reservation time at Sueno for $40/person.
“Every year we hear from folks who appreciate the vibe, the warm and playful hospitality, and a more refined way to celebrate the culture and the holiday than we’re used to at the tex-mex corporate spots. It’s an easy afternoon, with great local music and a more playful approach to Sueno’s chef-driven contemporary Mexican cuisine. We kinda let our hair down a bit and have some fun with it, and hope to see our friends come out and do the same. We don’t often get to do the Sunday funday thing, so it’ll be special.”
