National Taco Day Deals

October 7, 2025 By Lisa Grigsby

The earliest version of an official Taco Day originated in San Antonio in the 1960s, according to L.A. Taco, when a city councilman named Roberto L. Gomez promoted a Taco Day as part of Mexican heritage celebrations — a community effort to recognize the cultural impact of tacos.

Over time, other cities adopted it, and eventually, big fast-food chains piggybacked on the idea and began using October 4 as the unofficial date. However, in 2024, Taco Bell partnered with National Day Calendar to officially move National Taco Day to the first Tuesday in October, aligning it with Taco Tuesday.

7 Deals for National Taco Day

September 27, 2024 By Lisa Grigsby

Since 2013, National Taco Day has officially fallen on October 4. But thanks to our friends at Taco Bell, the holiday has been permanently changed to the first Tuesday in October. So instead of honoring the humble taco on any random day of the week, it will officially fall on Taco Tuesday every year!

To celebrate the occasion, chains across the country are offering delicious deals for free and discounted tacos. We’ve rounded up some of the best deals you can redeem this year. So whether you prefer a soft or crunchy shell, chicken or beef, or spicy or mild salsa—there’s a discounted taco for you.

Bubbakoo’s Burritos customers can enjoy a $5 digital meal deal on Oct. 1. The meal comes with two basic tacos (soft or hard shell) with chicken, beef or pork and a side of chips and salsa. The offer is valid on app and online orders.

“When someone changes the date of National Taco Day, you celebrate it twice — on the new date and the OG date,” Chuy’s shared . On Tuesday and Friday  you can add a crispy or softshell ground beef taco to any dine-in entrée order for $1. You can also celebrate by adding a $1 tequila floater on top of any margarita.

“Visit your local Chuy’s dressed like a taco on October 1 and October 4, 2024, post your photo on social media with #ChuysTacoDay and in return you’ll receive a free, dine-in entrée of your choice on Taco Day(s),
