Just had a great burger at Halal Burgers, which opened yesterday in the Washington Park Plaza on Lyons Road, just east of Chappy’s.
As I walked in the door manager Abbad Tahir welcomed me and took my order, suggesting I make my burger order a combo, which included fries and a Pepsi product fountain drink.
I ordered the double burger and honestly could not finish it. The burger was fresh and well seasoned and made with Halal meat.
For meat to be halal, the animal must be healthy and alive at the time of slaughter.
During the process, a Muslim certified butcher will recite “Bismillah” (in the name of God) before making a deep, swift incision with a sharp knife across the animal’s throat, cutting the jugular vein and carotid artery.
It is the only type of meat observant Muslims are permitted to eat. Halal designation for meat is an important concept and belief associated with food for this religious community.

Manager Abbad Tahir
What that mean for the non-muslim community- according to Tahir, “it just means top notch quality meat. He states it’s one of the reasons Tahir and his brother opened the eatery. Growing up the area they just wanted a great burger and wing joint to eat at. He shared the need for Halal food in the area is growing. Between the brothers, they have over 40 years of experience in the restaurant business and they look forward to bringing their food to the community. He shares that his family has a huge passion for serving and look forward to getting involved with area
non-profits.Another brother has a farm and butcher shop in Columbus, so when they say their food is farm to table, they really mean it- no middle man involved.
The emphasis is obviously on burger, but they also serve chicken wings, chicken tenders and make fresh scooped ice cream shakes or just get two scoops of ice cream or pick up some DLM killer brownies at the counter. You order at the counter and can enjoy your meal at the 40 seats in the restaurant or take your food to go. You can also get it delivered through door dash or grub hub. Abbad also shared they can also do catering.
