On Saturday, August 5, 2023, beginning at 12:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., Sophia Learning Center, a local Christ-centered preschool and private kindergarten, will host its third Drive by: Fresh Lemonade & Homemade Baked Goods.
Fundraiser at 1401 S. Main Street, Dayton, Ohio 45409
This year’s sale will feature three flavors of old-fashioned lemonade:
• Classic Old-Fashioned Lemonade
• Berry Lemonade
• Pineapple Lemonade
Additionally, the sale will feature 24 different types of homemade desserts prepared by
local small business, home and hobby bakers from the Dayton and Cincinnati Region,
including local favorites like, Dorothy Lane Market, Klassi Konfections, Sugar Sweets by
Peeks and Twist Cupcakery. Desserts range from sweet potato pies and cobblers to
pound cakes, cheesecakes and more. The menu will also include gluten free options for
individuals with allergens.
Attendees can choose to stay in their cars or walk up to the booth to purchase from SLC’s
students and volunteers. Lemonade prices will begin $5.00 a cup or $10 and up for
specialty souvenir bottles. Desserts are $5 a slice/bowl or attendees can purchase the
entire dessert.
Sophia Learning Center was founded in 2019 and is a Christ-centered preschool and private kindergarten located in Kettering that works alongside of parents to train up world
changers, by ensuring that students have a firm foundation in Christ as well as a firm foundation in reading and math prior to entering the school system. Proceeds from the fundraiser will help Sophia Learning Center prepare for growth, purchase new technology for the school year and provide scholarships for students.

The annual Ohio tax-free weekend can help you save on back-to-school shopping. Since 2019, Ohio Senate Bill 226 has provided a permanent sales tax holiday on the first Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in August each year. Here’s how to save the most money. The 2023 Ohio tax-free weekend starts at 12:00 AM on Friday, August 4 and runs until 11:59 PM on Sunday, August 6.

Items placed on layaway during the sales tax holiday are tax-exempt. Items picked up from layaway during the sales tax holiday are also tax-exempt. Coupons, discounts and loyalty cards can be used at individual retailers. If a retailer offers a discount to reduce the price of an eligible item to $20 or less for school supplies or $75 or less for clothing, the item will qualify for the exemption.
For internet orders, the rules state that if you order and pay for the item during the tax holiday and ship immediately, your item will qualify even if it’s delivered days or weeks later. You will also not pay tax on shipping and handling if all of your items in the shipment are eligible.
If an item is back-ordered and the website or retailer can’t take your order during the sales tax holiday, the item doesn’t qualify for the tax-free discount.
Qualifying items placed on or picked up from layaway during the sales tax holiday are also exempt from sales tax. There is no limit on the amount of the total purchase. The qualification is determined item by item.
For your online order to be tax-free, you must order and pay for eligible items during the sales tax holiday. According to the Ohio Department of Taxation, the retailer must also accept your order for “immediate shipment” during the three-day period.

The Lebanon Blues Festival is the single largest fundraiser for the Lebanon Optimist Club. Our Optimist Club is a service organization (think of Rotary, Kiawanis, etc.) The thing that sets us apart from other clubs is our mission…we strive to serve as many youth in our community as possible by funding as many programs as possible.
Every dollar we raise with our festival is used to help children and teens here in Lebanon.
An overview to the boat will be given and then you will be out on the water trying paddling out for yourself! Depending on demand, you may have the opportunity to try different styles of boats. A great way to learn about the sport in a controlled environment. All equipment is provided.

Kicking off the celebration at 5:15 PM will be a speaking event featuring special guest, Ambassador Tony Hall with Hall Hunger Initiative, raising awareness for the importance of supporting locally sourced food. Five Rivers MetroParks sustainability manager, Tim Pritchard, will also be sharing information about the things everyone can do to help heal our planet. In addition, we’ve invited local farmers to share their thoughts on the importance of sustainable, local food access.

Miami Valley Meals team of chefs transform recovered (a.k.a. “rescued”) foods into hearty and nutritious prepared meals that are then distributed to a network of nonprofit partners serving the hungry in the Miami Valley—free of charge. They currently distribute an average of ~4,000 meals per week to 45+ partners per month.
