Bourbon Bar Now Open At Crafted & Cured in Troy

Tonight is the opening of the bourbon bar at Crafted & Cured in Troy.  I attended a preview night last night and all I can say is wow!  The building they are located in was originally constructed in 1929 as The First Troy National Bank and it is stunning.  The 13,000 square feet of space features the original architecture and one of the original safety deposit vaults.
Crafted & Cured  opened in Feb of this year but the addition of this 2nd story bar that offers a predominant collection of Bourbon, American Whiskey, Rye Whiskey, Irish Whiskey, Canadian Whiskey, Scotch Whiskey, International Whiskey, Private Barrel and Limited Release Selections makes a real statement. Co-owner Andy Routson shared “they have over 500 bottles currently, expect to add another 100 brands in the next week and the ultimate goal is to stock 1000. “

Crafted & Cured sought out the finest craftsmanship to construct the bars.  They partnered with a local company, Stull Woodworks, to design and build all three bars to enhance the natural beauty and original architecture.  Everything about the Crafted & Cured experience is intended to be unique, not like any other experience, product, or service. The Bourbon bar incorporates Hebe, Greek goddess, Wife of Hercules.  Depicted often as the cupbearer of the gods, pouring ambrosia from her pitcher. The goal at Crafted & Cured has always been to expand into an all-inclusive experience along with a full cocktail/mixology program with a bourbon-centric focus and now it has arrived.

As I approached the bar I was greeted by two familiar bartenders, Tim & Tyler, who many will recognize from serving up cocktails around Dayton.   The bar is also stocked with diverse house selections of Tequila, Vodka, Gin, Rum and other spirituous liquors. Their craft cocktail menu is broken into Seasonal, Classic and Signature Series cocktails.   You’ll find classics such as a Tom Collins, Old Fashioned, Manhattan, French ’75, along with seasonal offerings such as a Watermelon Spritz or Strawberry Siesta.  Signature Series cocktails include The C&C Sour, a Negroni/Boulevardier, and Goodnight Irene.
The first floor of the building hosts the 60 taps of craft beer, ciders, sours, and meads as well as the charcuterie station. Keep up with the changing beer selections on Untappd.  You can browse the Charcuterie menu and select a curated board or build or your own with the help of their Charcutiers. Cheese Boards include standard Charcuterie, plus (4) varieties of Cheese that rotate seasonally: wash-rind, semi-hard, bleu-veined, and semi-soft cheese along with house-cured grapes. The Dessert Board includes seasonal flavored Goat Cheese, Chocolate Thimbles stuffed with flavored Marscapone, Macaroons, Fresh Blackberries, Effie’s Cocoa Biscuits, house-made Chocolate Bark, Peanut Brittle and a Cream Puff with Hazelnut filling and Balsamic Pearls. Drizzled Chocolate, Vanilla Bean Syrup, and Powdered Sugar garnishes the board.
Have a seat while your board is being created  and notice that many of the tables have been made from the buildings original radiator overs. The Charcuterie bar was created from cabinets used by the bank that once graced this building. And by the time you’ve taken in all the fine details of the building your board will be delivered to you, along with a presentation of the individual make up of the board.
  Co-owner and Chef Christian Alvarez’s next focus will be on an extended food menu with sandwiches, salads and more offerings. Also coming are curated tasting experiences which will include bourbons and boards.  Subscribe to their newsletter via the website to find out about these special events before they are made public.  Coming on the ballot this fall in Troy will be a vote to add liquor sales on Sunday, currently they can just serve beer.
Private events are also a big deal at Crafted & Cured, where rentals start at just $200/hour and they are happy to custom create a menu for your special night.  They can host up to 120 on the 2nd floor and about 40 reception style downstairs in the Safety Deposit room.

Crafted & Cured Set To Open in Troy

Crafted & Cured will host a ribbon cutting and grand opening ceremony with the Troy Area Chamber of Commerce and city officials on Wednesday, February 8, 2023. This marks the official opening of Crafted & Cured on Market Street in Troy.  Ribbon cutting is scheduled for 4:30 PM and Crafted & Cured will open immediately following at 5 PM with the full menu available for purchase.

Regular operating hours begin February 9, 2023; Wednesday through Thursday 3-10 PM, Friday through Saturday 3 PM – midnight, and Sunday 11 AM – 7 PM.

“We feel incredibly honored to re-open Crafted & Cured to serve the greater Dayton community. We’ve missed our clientele and we look forward to foraging new relationships in the community of Troy and beyond. Everyone’s been incredibly supportive,” expressed Andy Routson and Christian Alvarez, co-owners of Crafted & Cured.

Crafted & Cured’s new location at 8 S Market St., holds significant historical value to the area, originally constructed in 1929 as The First Troy National Bank (formerly known as US Bank). “Crafted & Cured will provide a unique dining environment in one of Troy’s most iconic structures. There is no doubt that this location will become a regional destination for people wanting a relaxing experience in a truly distinctive atmosphere.

This will be known as a place for people to spend time to sit and talk. There are no televisions, and the furnishings are inviting. There are few places like this anywhere and we are fortunate to have something like this in Troy,” explained Wade Westfall, landlord and owner of Four Sons Development.

Crafted & Cured will open with a charcuterie bar featuring boards and bar bites, 60-taps of craft beer, ciders, sours, and meads. Wine and champagne sold by the glass and bottle. An additional bar with a bourbon-centric beverage program will be added in the coming months, along with an expanded food program.

Crafted & Cured Opens The Doors

Chef Lee Anne House first shared some insights about this new Wayne Avenue business a few weeks ago, and we posted some pictures from their Friends and Family night last Saturday, and now you can make visit Crafted & Cured at 531 Wayne Ave.

Open daily from 3- 9pm daily stop in and grab a growler from their selection of 60 taps, featuring ales, stouts, ciders, sours and meads.  Or peruse the beer wall of bombers, six packs and singles. If wine is more your taste, the Wine Wall is filled with bottles or red, white, rose and champagne.  They  plan to  feature many small  wineries, giving you a chance to expand your knowledge and your palate.  Crafted & Cured isn’t really a bar, but more of a bottle shop/growler fill station, where you can stop by and stock up on some great  liquid treats.

This is just the beginning, soon the Dietz building will add cured meats and fine cheeses.  After that, look for the opening of District Provisions, modeled after turn of the century style neighborhood markets.  Further plans include the addition of a local butcher and a Latin market.   Cheers to Andy & Christian – wishing you much success!

 

Crafted & Cured – A Dream Come True for Local Entrepreneurs

Crafted and CuredTwo and a half years ago, two friends and co-workers that shared a passion for craft beer and high quality cured meats and cheeses envisioned a unique space where you could find obscure beers, ciders and sours along with family owned, small batch wines and champagne. It took quite a while but finally their vision is coming to fruition as Crafted & Cured.

 

Together Christian Alvarez and Andy Routson have quite the background that makes them a great team to lead this inspiring business. Chris is a chef, with his degree from Le Cordon Bleu in California. He will be making all kinds of pickles, mustards, anything to go with their charcuterie.

Eventually, his goal is to cure their own meats i20160407_152654n the market itself with other vendors. Wait till you see their meat slicer, flown in straight from Italy, it is an eye catcher. Bright red with a hand crank wheel to give you the sheerest of cuts on prosciuttos, this is sure to please with fine meats.

Andy is an avid craft beer drinker and trader. He is working towards becoming a certified cicerone. (A cicerone is a certification awarded to an individual who has demonstrated an expertise in beer service.) He comes from a family of entrepreneurs and has always known he wanted to own his own business. Obviously, one of the most important questions on the table during my chat with them was what their favorite styles of beer are. Andy loves stouts and anytcrowlerhing barrel aged. Chris is all about those IPA’s. I am going to love drinking with these guys!!

Crafted & Cured simply put is a growler house, not a bar. This is a place to come taste some samples of unique brews and take them home to enjoy. Not only do they offer the growlers that we have all become so familiar with they also have a crowler! A crowler is a 32 ounce can to-go that they will right in front of you! Crafted & Cured will have 60 taps with 10-12 of those dedicated to ciders, sours and meads. Dayton has a great beer scene and we have been seeing the new trend of beer infusions popping up all over town, especially at Toxic Brew Co. Luckily Crafted and Cured has a Randall, made by Dogfish Head, to infuse beers right there at the bar! You will be able to pick from a variety of ingredients, from lemongrass to vanilla beans or cocoa nibs to make your own specially seasoned beer.20160407_152233

Not only will Crafted & Cured offer beer, there will be a whole wall of wines and champagnes that you can’t get anywhere else. They are working closely with their rep Mike Freeman to make sure they only offer small batch, family owned, grower vineyards. Mike will be available once a month for a fun educational night with tastings.

You don’t have to worry about a lack of parking, there is plenty! They have 9 spots available in the space between them and Wheat Penny and all of the surrounding roads behind them. Monday – Friday during the day till 4:30pm at the Theatre Guild, right across the street to the right, and from 5 pm on at the Behavioral Health Center on Wayne, also across the street to the left, and all day and night on the weekends here as well.

20160407_152302Crafted & Cured plans on opening their doors for a soft opening, prior to May. This soft opening period will last approximately one month and will not include the cured side of the business quite yet. They plan to master the beverage side of the business then launch a grand opening in coordination with the opening of District Provisions. The grand opening will mark the start of the cured side of the business. And don’t worry, District Provisions will open soon!

The rest of the building is going to be fantastic. It’s big and beautiful and full of potential. District Provisions is a turn of century style neighborhood market. It is designed to supply the primary grocery needs to the residents of the Oregon District, South Park, St. Anne’s Hill, and downtown Dayton. We can’t wait! This is just what downtown Dayton needs.
