In the Lower Alentejo region of southern Portugal lies the estate of Herdade do Rocim. Oenologist and winemaker Catarina has been coordinating the long overhaul of the estate and believes that Alentejo has the unique conditions required to produce world-class, age worthy wines.

Since purchasing the estate, Caterina invested heavily in the land by completely regenerating the vineyards and building a new state of the art winery. She focuses on indigenous, organic wines that are “elegant and sober, with freshness and minerality.” The most unique wines from the lineup are traditional amphora-aged wines. Amphora are large clay pots. The porous nature of the pots allow for micro-oxidation of the wine, similar to what oak aging does but without the taste of oak.
