Masquerage Theme Release Party — Ticket Giveaway

July 7, 2017 By Lisa Grigsby

Since 2002, Masquerage has earned the reputation as Dayton’s Party of Parties, attended by hundreds of costumed guests for a an evening of dancing, drinking and decadence to benefit Equitas Health (formerly ARC Ohio).
Decor, costumes and entertainment for this extravaganza center around a theme each year, and that curiosity about the theme spawned an annual theme release party staring back in 2010.  The first Masquerage in 2002 , was dubbed A Celebration of Truth, Beauty, Freedom & Love.  It wasn’t until 2005 that specific themes shaped the masks required ball.

Here are to the best of my recollection the themes of Masquerage past:

Masquerage 2006

2015:  Viva Las Vegas
2014:  Dirty Little Secrets
2013: Once Upon A Time
2012: Vixens & Villains
2011:  A Decade of Decadence
2010:  Heavenly Pleasures & Sinful Delights
2009: An Evening of Fantastical Oddities and Astonishing Wonders!
2008:  A Sexy intergalactic Adventure
2007: A Glam Rock Odyessy
2006: An Evening of Divine Pleasure
2005:  Tribal

You can be amongst the first to find out the theme for the 2017 event on Wed, July 12th as The Dayton Racquet Club sponsors the reveal party from 6-8pm.  You’ll even get inspiration for costumes from the Runway Show produced Mary Kathryn Burnside of Clash Dayton.  Tickets are $25 and include light appetizers and a complimentary cocktail/beverage.

DMM TICKET GIVEAWAY: We’ve got 2 pairs of tickets for the theme release party (a $50 value).  You can enter the drawing for our giveaway by liking and sharing this post and leaving a comment below on why you should win.

Party guests will also have the opportunity to get a $10 discount on tickets for the 2017 Masquerage, which will be held on Saturday, Oct 21st at the Roundhouse at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds.

Masquerage Tickets:

General Admission tickets — $65 presale/$75 @ door includes specialty welcome cocktail, complimentary appetizers, entry into the main event with night-long dancing and entertainment on the Main stage.

Red Ribbon Lounge tickets — $150 presale/$175 @ door includes all the benefits of the main event ticket PLUS exclusive VIP lounge with open bar, specialty food, VIP SWAG bag, and entertainment throughout the venue.

This year’s event represents one of the largest public opportunities to raise awareness and critical fund for HIV/AIDS medical care and treatment, HIV prevention (which includes PrEP), and a variety of other services like primary care, behavioral health counseling, and dental care – one of the highest unmet needs for those living with HIV.

Full Disclosure:  From 2009-2014 I was the Special Events Director at ARC Ohio and produced Masquerage.

AIDS Walk Greater Dayton: Continuing to Make Progress Together

April 8, 2017 By Guest Contributor

We’ve made a lot of progress since those darks days at the beginning the AIDS epidemic. We’ve helped people come out of the shadows and seek treatment. We’ve developed a better understanding of the disease and treatment options. We’ve raised awareness about the importance of getting tested. And most recently, we’ve empowered people by creating a once daily pill, known as PrEP, that prevents the transmission of HIV. But our fight is far from over. In Ohio, approximately 24,000 people are currently living with HIV. 1 in 8 HIV-positive people don’t know their status, don’t receive HIV medical care, and can pass the virus on to others. If current trends continue, 1 in 6 gay or bi-sexual men will contract HIV in their lifetime. If that’s unacceptable to you, help continue the progress by signing up to participate in AIDS Walk Greater Dayton on April 22.

AIDS Walk Greater Dayton draws people from all walks of life with different connections to the cause. Teddy Thomas, a Daytonian who’s been a part of Equitas Health’s mpowerment program, Mu Crew since 2014, is looking forward to this year’s walk. “I walk because Mu Crew has helped me teach others about HIV awareness and safety. I want to be a part of creating a world where people aren’t afraid to talk about being HIV-positive. Participating in AIDS Walk Ohio helps me do that,” said Teddy. He also receives care at their Dayton Medical Center and Pharmacy and is thankful for the social services they provide. “Their housing assistance program allowed me to stay in Ohio and avoid homelessness. I would have a very different life if it weren’t for Equitas Health,” said Teddy. Teddy has achieved “Grand Walker” status by raising at least $1,000 to support HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment. This is his second year achieving that milestone and he hopes to defend his title as the top fundraiser in Dayton again this year.

Whether you walk in memory of someone who’s passed, in celebration of someone who’s survived, or in solidarity with those affected or at-risk of HIV, your participation is necessary to continue making progress until one day when we have a cure.

AIDS Walk Greater Dayton takes place Saturday, April 22 at its new location at Fifth Third Field Plaza. Registration starts at 10am. Sign up at aidswalkohio.com to participate in the 1-mile stroll, 5K walk or run, or 20-mile bike ride. Come out and cheer people on as they return and enjoy music by DJ Dayna, food by the Drunken Waffle and the Wicked ‘Wich of Dayton, and craft beer from Warped Wing Brewery.

Old Scratch Pizza Serves Up Cones For a Cause

March 1, 2017 By Lisa Grigsby

The Patterson Blvd. Pizza place that opened this past fall is not only serving up some of the best thin crust pizza in town, they’ve also created a program that is giving back to our area nonprofits.

Old Scratch Pizza make soft serve ice cream to serve to their guests.  They don’t charge for the cones, instead they ask for a small donation.  Each month Old Scratch Pizza collects and donate all monies to a chosen charity organization.

They kicked off the program in November of 2016 with  Secret Smiles, an organization that provides beds and bedding for children in the Miami Valley, then in December partnered with Clothes That Work, who provide workplace appropriate clothing, confidence building education and coaching services to job seekers. In January OSP chose Equitas Health, one of the nation’s largest HIV/lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer/questioning (LGBTQ) healthcare organizations.  Last month the featured charity was Girls On the Run, who inspires girls to take charge of their lives and define the future on their terms.

For March they’ve chosen another great organization as this month’s “Cones for a Cause” recipient. Owners Eric and Stephanie Soller shared they  “are really excited to be partnering with House of Bread, who deliver hot, nutritious meals to anyone in need 365 days a year. This kind of resource is so needed in our community. So come on down, have a cone, and make a difference.”

Bonus opportunity: Put Tuesday March 21st on your calendar for a “Restaurant Takeover” to support House of Bread. Volunteers from the group will be there pouring beers, and serving up ice cream cones, and 10% of the proceeds between 6-9 go to the organization!

If you know of an organization that would be interested in being a “Cones for a Cause” charity, please fill out the online form found at the bottom of their webpage.

Visit Old Scratch Pizza at 812 S. Patterson Road for lunch or dinner.  Pizzas are artfully prepared to order and cooked in a wood-burning oven until perfectly flame-kissed. Pair your pie with a specialty house cocktail or regional craft beer in our open-air, casual, and communal hall.  Also on the menu, some great salads, their Whole Roasted Cauliflower, sandwiches and yes, they have gluten free pizza crust available.  They are open Tuesday- Thursday from 11am – 10pm, Friday & Saturday’s they stay open an hour later until 11pm and Sunday from 11am – 9pm.

Preview The RED Table Design Gala

October 12, 2016 By Dayton Most Metro

114The RED Dayton Table Design Gala benefitting Equitas Health (formerly AIDS Resource Center Ohio) is returning this year with the theme “Idols and Icons.” With the recent passing of artists and actors like Prince, David Bowie, and Alan Rickman, breakout moments from Beyoncé with her video album “Lemonade” and Super Bowl “Formation” performance, and launch of the first PRIDE flag into space, there’s plenty of inspiration for the 16 table designers at this year’s event. Some of the designs you’ll want to see in person; like the one by Mark Breuninghaus, long-time supporter and owner of The Flower Shoppe, who is creating a Liberace-themed table using a baby-grand piano as the table!

94On October 14th at 5:30pm, a special Preview Party hosted by the Equitas Health Dayton Associate Board will take place at the Dayton Masonic Center. You’ll get to stroll through each designer’s uniquely decorated table while enjoying delicious hors d’oeuvres and cocktails. The preview party is a great opportunity to get a first look at the tables, meet the region’s most inspiring designers, and enjoy music by local artists Kris N. and Paige Beller. If a casual, dance party is your style, then the preview party is for you. Tickets are available at reddayton.com.

“The Equitas Health Associate Board members are excited to present yet another fun, fabulous party. Now that we’re switching to the biennial format, alternating RED Dayton Table Design Gala and Masquerage, hosting the preview party gives us a break from pulling out a showstopper year after year, but we still get to throw a fantastic event,” says Val Beerbower, Dayton Associate Board Member.

Brenden Wynn

Brenden Wynn

Associate Board Vice Chair, Brenden Wynn, will be one of the featured speakers at the annual TEDxDayton signature event, also taking place Friday, Oct. 14, at the Victoria Theatre. His talk will focus on empowering healthcare consumers to seek out better care at lower cost. Wynn will be speaking to a packed house at the fourth consecutive sell-out for the locally organized TED event. Wynn’s role with the board and in his professional career at Providence Medical Group demonstrate his commitment to improving the health and wellness of Dayton-area residents.

Another way to support Equitas Health is by purchasing raffle tickets for a chance to win an iconic trip for two to your choice of Havana, Maui, or London. Each trip is valued at over $10,000 and includes air fare or air fare voucher. Raffle tickets are 3 for $100 or $50 each. Purchase raffle tickets at reddayton.com/raffle.

With Masquerage moving to a biennial event the RED Dayton Table Design Gala Preview Party is a great opportunity to enjoy a fun evening all for a charitable cause.

All funds raised will benefit Equitas Health’s diverse healthcare and support services focused around primary care, specialized HIV and LGBTQ medical care, behavioral health, HIV/STI prevention, advocacy, and community health initiatives.
