Lucky’s Taproom & Eatery Celebrates 13th Anniversary

March 8, 2024 By Lisa Grigsby

Established in 2011, Lucky’s Taproom & Eatery in the Oregon District is celebrating 13 years in business this weekend! A full-service bar and restaurant in Dayton’s Historic Oregon District. The atmosphere is comfortable, superior quality service is provided based on a teamwork approach, and delicious food is served at a reasonable price.

Proud to have two flat top grills so that true vegan food choices are available, Lucky’s also serves traditional food and vegetarian options as well. There are weekly homemade specials, homemade soups and unique homemade desserts.

Lucky’s, with twenty revolving beer taps, is also proud to be able to provide you with the largest selection of craft draft beers in the Oregon District. New selections are available often. Quality cocktails are also available at reasonable prices.

Owner, Andrew Trick, has over thirty years’ experience in the industry and is happy to offer you a place where you can relax, enjoy a good beer, watch a game and share some good times with friends.

As they posted on their facebook page “Some may say 13 is a unlucky number, and considering the last several years we find ourselves lucky to be opening our doors on a regular basis, some of our friends have not been so lucky.
On that note, this weekend we are celebrating our 13 year anniversary and hope to make some people feel lucky. In an attempt to do something a little different we will be giving away raffle tickets for all of our patrons that purchase the weekend specials. (Friday through Sunday).”
The specials will be:
Pork loin served with mashed potatoes and garlic green beans, for our carnivore friends and Vegan meatloaf with mashed potatoes and garlic green beans, for our vegan/ vegetation friends.
These specials will be available Friday through Sunday ( March 10th, our actual anniversary date) If these specials don’t tickle your fancy you can purchase raffle tickets for $5 or 3 for $10. Proceeds of tickets sale will go to urrfect Additions). Purrfect Additions, Inc. was created in the hopes we can find homes for all of our feline friends, and promote spay and neuter programs everywhere. Our rescue is specifically designed to work with special needs cats with behavioral problems and/or health issues.
Prizes will include:
2 Luckys work jackets ( or $100 gift certificate)
1 $50 gift certificate
10 $20 gift certificates.
Drawing will be made Monday March 11th. Winners need not be present.
Sorry for the long post and as always, thank you for your time,
Drew and the Lucky’s crew

Lucky’s Celebrates 3rd Anniversary With Beer Dinner

March 8, 2014 By Lisa Grigsby Leave a Comment

793734_616619505025827_557548110_oDrew Trick had a vision: A comfortable place where people can enjoy a wide variety of draught beer and eat fresh food with their friends and family, as well as see couple-hundred model cars. On October 23, 2010, Trick made this dream a reality, purchasing what is now known as Lucky’s Taproom and Eatery, located in the Oregon Arts District.

When he walked in the building for the first time, Drew Trick knew he had to remodel a restaurant that had been established by many other owners before. Trick considered how he wanted people to describe his restaurant/bar. He did not want to have the typical loud bar filled with neon signs and cluttered space. It was not his intention to open a bar and grill or sports bar. He wanted to create a place for people to come casually and feel comfortable. Using his initial vision, he decided the floors, bar ceiling, display units, and draught systems had to be updated, or added, before completion.

Lucky’s owner Drew Trick

While hunting for the name, Trick first started with “Lucky’s,” because it was his late father’s nickname. Trick then searched dictionaries and thesauruses looking for descriptive words that were generational in nature. Trick chose “taproom” because of the large supply of draught beers that would be rotating all year long. He chose “eatery” simply because people could come and enjoy a good meal.

It was exactly three years ago today we ran the above story, by Christina M. Dyer as part of the updayton Entrepreneurship Team.  Now it’s hard to remember when Lucky’s wasn’t part of the District.  Drew and his staff have established Lucky’s as a huge part of the community, supporting numerous non-profit events and has helped grow the craft beer movement in Dayton, by rotating a wide array of featured beers.  And what a better way to celebrate their 3rd anniversary than with a Beer Dinner, featuring local beers.

This Monday, March 6th at 6:30 Lucky’s will present a four course dinner, paired with beers from Toxic Brew Company and Warped Wing.   Reservations can be made in advance at Lucky’s, the cost is $40 and the menu is as follows:
Pre Dinner tastes;
Abby Blonde-Toxic Brew  & Ermal’s Cream Ale

Appetizer:  Duck Drumsticks with Abby Brunette maple glaze served over corn mush paired with Abby Brunette by Toxic Brew Co.
Salad: Grilled beet and kale winter salad paired with Winter Ale buy Toxic Brew Co.
Entree: Ale braised pork chops (Chuck’s favorite) served on a bed of root vegetable hash paired with Warped Wings #4 brew(Maa Durga)
Desert: 10 ton mousse topped with no bake crumbles and house made whipped cream paired with 10ton by Warped Wing

As a thank you to Holy Trinity for their community support and the great works of the ARC (Animal Resource center) 20% of all sales the day of March 10, our official anniversary date, will go to these great establishments. Also we will be doing random raffles throughout the tasting featuring Warped Wing Brewing Company and Toxic Brew Company swag!!!

3rd Annual Mad Hatter Bar Crawl This Saturday

June 20, 2013 By Lisa Grigsby 1 Comment

943417_10200982482466195_2045711571_n-1Don’t miss out on an epic pub crawl in the Oregon District this Saturday featuring beers from New Holland Brewing.   In an Alice in Wonderland inspired theme, attendees are encouraged to come in costume or at least hats, and there will be prizes and treats along the stops for participants.    It all begins at 2pm at Thai 9 where the featured beer will be Michigan Hatter, a beer that celebrates local agriculture with its Michigan-grown Cascade hops from the Itelanau Peninsula. Bright and aromatic, with delicious malt notes underneath a citrusy showcase of hops.

Around 3pm the groups heads to Blind Bob’s for a light  and refreshing Beligan style pale ale, Farmhouse Hatter,  is the featured pour.  By 4pm the group will meander on down to Lucky’s  for some Oak Aged Hatter, and  I.P.A. aged in Kentucky Barrels. which gives the beer a  smooth wood character brining a new dimension to dry-hopped, aromatic hoppiness.  Sometime around 5ish the crawl will arrive at Trolley Stop to try the Black Hatter,  a version of Mad Hatter brewed with black malt for a dark, roasty sweetness that finishes with a strong Centennial hop character from dry hopping.

Wrapping up the pub crawl at South Park Tavern, around 6ish, guests can experience the Rye Hatter.  This beer showcases it’s grain-bill, made up of rye and barley malt. The rye adds a slight spiciness to the caramel-malt base, while also creating a creamy texture. with dry-hopping creating a fresh citrus finish.

Guests are welcome to join the crawl at any stop along the way, but the first 106 guests will get an official New Holland Beer T-shirt and there will be a prize awarded for best costume somewhere along the trail.

Lucky’s and Wings host Eat to Win Contests this Weekend

March 8, 2013 By Lisa Grigsby Leave a Comment

joey chestnutWhen you say Extreme Eating Contests, most people envision Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest, held each4th of July at Coney Island, in Brooklyn, New York.  ESPN broadcasts this and Joey Chestnut has captured the title six times, most recently by eating 68 hotdogs, buns and all in 12 minutes.

While Dayton hasn’t gotten quite that extreme, we do have our share of eating contests that exist. There’s the E-I-E-I-O challenge from OinkADoodleMoo:

[yframe url=’http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kZVymAlJ4dU’]

Johnny’s Pizzeria in Centerville offers a Brooklyn Brawler Challenge, has seen a half-dozen two-person teams succeed in polishing off the eight-pound, meat-stuffed pizza within 30 minutes, Voltzy’s has the Bill Clinton Divorce Finale challenge: A 14-pound burger with a half-pound of onions and 20 slices of cheese on a one-pound bun.  Eat it in an hour and Rick Volz pays you a $100, if not you owe $40 for the food.  Quaker Steak & Lube has their Atomic Wing Challenge- eat 6 atomic wings and you’ll get t-shirt and a sticker, but you still have to pay for your wings.  Submarine House has their Super Duper Cheesesteak Challenge going on, eat your 16 inch cheesesteak in 16 minutes and it’s free, you’ll get a t-shirt and you’ll qualify for the semi-finals to be held March 24th.

And if you’re in the mood to see how you do at one of these eating challenges there are 2 happening this Saturday:

As part of Wings Sports Bar & Grill‘s 15th birthday celebration they will be hosting the
7 MINUTES IN HELL-HOT WING EATING CONTEST.  For a $20 entry fee the person who eats the most hot wings in 7 minutes will win $100.  Contestants should check in by 7pm for the 8pm contest, all participants must read & sign contest rules. Entry forms are wingslocated at the bar.  The Winner last year, Jared Price, finished off 26 Hot wings in 7 minutes. Give this guy a challenge!
If you’d rather just watch the festivities, and enjoy the band, Shadow Facts will play live and rock the house at 8pm. There will be a 50/50 raffle for the Nick Aycock Benefit going all day. There will also be drink specials, food deals & giveaways all day.
Lucky'sLucky’s Taproom and Eatery has been celebrating their 2nd anniversary all week long with special beer tappings and on Sat they too will host an eating contest. The Death by Dog eat off will be won by the first person to finish 3 pure beef dogs wrapped in cheese, wrapped in bologna breaded and deep fried.  Entry for this contest is $10 and the winner will get their name on a plaque, a t-shirt and a set of dog tags, as well as bragging rights!
Happy eating! And if we missed any eating contests, tell us about them in the comments below, please!
