Middletown’s Women’s Wine & Chocolate Walk is Back!

May 10, 2023 By Dayton937

Break out your SEQUINS and put on your SPARKLE to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the Women’s Wine and Chocolate Walk on May 20th. Grab your friends for an afternoon filled with wine, chocolate, shopping, food, and entertainment in historic downtown Middletown. It’s an event just for ladies 21+, hosted by Downtown Middletown Inc. Although walking is involved…we can’t promise you will burn more calories than you consume!

How it works: At check-in, you will trade your ticket for a wine tasting glass, swag bag, and tasting map. You can also check out our raffle baskets and get a free raffle ticket for donating a canned good item. Then you’re off! Your map will guide you to 10 wine stops and 10 chocolate stops throughout downtown Middletown. Along the way, stop to enjoy amazing shopping, restaurants, and entertainment.

Purchase your Tickets online:

VIP Tickets:  $75.00+$4.00 Fee

Your VIP ticket gets you in the door 45 minutes earlier than everyone else! You will kick off the event with a bonus wine and chocolate tasting, and you’ll enjoy some delish nibbles at our welcome reception before heading on your way. Plus, you’ll get a FREE raffle ticket for some amazing gift baskets. Your check-in time is 11:15am-noon.

General Admission Tickets: $55 +$2.80 fee
You will enjoy 10 wine tastings and 10 chocolate stops included in the price of your ticket. This is a great value for 10 wine tastings and 10 chocolate treats, plus entertainment, shopping, and restaurants ready to serve you.
Choose your check in time- noon or 1pm

Check-in: Meet us at the Windamere, 2 S. Main Street in downtown Middletown. You will select a specific check-in time when you book. New this year – bring a canned good item for The Oaks Community Church food pantry and get a free raffle ticket!

What to Wear: Get ready to walk the red carpet in SEQUINS & SPARKLE! This year’s theme encourages you to break out an evening gown or wear your official event t-shirt with bedazzled jeans; whatever you pick, just make it sparkle! Remember to wear comfortable shoes because there is a bit of walking involved.

Shuttles: This is definitely not a fitness event- there is plenty of time for a leisurely pace. If you want a little more wine and chocolate and a little less walk, there will be shuttles available to drop you off near the farthest stops.

Mz. Jade Serving Up Soul Food in Middletown

January 12, 2022 By Lisa Grigsby

Originally from Detroit, Jade moved to the Butler County area 10 years ago, and started her business in 2018 on Yankee Road, where she set up tents and cooked outside to serve the Middletown community with her homemade meals. “Growing up with my Grandmother, she taught me everything. I still remember her recipes, but as I got older, I started making my own recipes,” Jade says. “I still use her recipes daily because she was the best.”  Mz. Jade’s Soul Food Cafe then moved to the Middletown’s Pendleton Art Center and then to Murphy’s Landing.

Now she’s moved the business again to its new home in the former Gracie’s at 1131 Central Ave.  Mz. Jade says she’s “excited to finally have a fully loaded soul food restaurant and a liquor license.” The business is indeed a family business with her sister serving as the bar manager and her son and fiancee in the kitchen.  The menu is packed with soul food favorites including greens, smothered pork chops, catfish and oxtails.  But if you can only try one thing, Mz Jade say’s “don’t miss the meatloaf.  You can have it smothered in gravy, bbq sauce or plain, but like everything else on her menu it’s made with love. She says she learned that from her grandmother and she’s proud of the comfort food she’s serving, just like she got growing up at her grandmother’s table.

On the weekend Mz. Jade offers a special extensive seafood menu, but she shared with us you can get their three seafood boils any night of the week when you dine in.

Once she settles into the new space she’s also thinking of adding a Southern brunch on Sunday that will feature fish and grits, salmon patties and more.
