The Darke County Whiskey, Wine & Ale Trail is a tribute to the American Spirit and to individuals who appreciate its taste and heritage. It is a touring destination unlike any other, consisting of three wineries, two breweries, and a distillery. Each locale offers its own distinctive experience and authentic character.

Tour the oldest distillery in Ohio at Indian Creek Distillery. Sip award-winning wines at the 2017 Ohio Magazine “Best Winery” winner, The Winery at Versailles. Enjoy a spectacular country sunset on the back porch of Tailspin Brewing Company, in what was once an old dairy barn. Enjoy a taste of the laid back country life with Twenty Barrels Winery & Cidery. Drink in the ambiance of an old brick school house at Olde Schoolhouse Winery. Spend an evening inside or on the spacious patio with a scenic view at Old Mason Winery and Vineyard. Experience a sophisticated evening overlooking downtown Greenville with a variety of cocktails at Alchemy Cocktail Lounge. Visit the charming town of Versailles to partake in Hayner Distilling’s special bourbon produced exclusively for the award-winning Hotel Versailles. All in the picturesque rural setting of western Ohio, where the soil is as rich as our history.

Wind your way through the scenic countryside of Darke, Mercer, Preble and Miami counties for an exceptional whiskey, wine, ale and bourbon tasting experience, where the age-old art of spirit-making is transformed into a casual event with relaxed style and an educational flare.  Visit nine locations at your own pace! 2nd Annual Winans/Moeller Brew Barn Collaboration Released

January 15, 2021 By Dayton Most Metro

Winans Wurtle Nut Brown Ale by Moeller Brew Barn just released their second annual edition. The dessert ale makes its return to both Moeller Brew Barn locations in Maria Stein and Troy, as well as retailers across 35 counties in Ohio. The local brewmaster and confectioner’s creation is made with the famous Winans Wurtles

“Winans is excited to welcome the next round of Moeller Brew Barn’s Winans brew. The first creation was really popular and represented the quality of Winans products well. We are excited to taste it soon,” stated Laurie Winans Reiser, owner of Winans Chocolates + Coffees, headquartered in Piqua, Ohio.

At 6.3% ABV, Winans Wurtle Nut Brown Ale is full of caramel, chocolate and pecan notes and aromas. Its medium body and nutty finish make it the perfect treat as Valentine’s Day approaches.

To accommodate the day of love, the ale’s can has undergone a design refresh. The new label displays a sleek black background with a confetti of hearts and shiny, metallic red detail. Additionally, the can can be personalized with a hand-written note to loved ones. The letter has even been started for you: “You mean the Wurtle to me, and then some.”

“In 2018, we brewed the Winans Meltaway Milk Chocolate Porter, and we learned then what hand-crafting chocolates was all about. We’ve built upon our collaboration brew, and the new personalized-option can design takes it one step further,” said Nick Moeller, Moeller Brew Barn founder. “I know what I’ll be getting my wife for Valentine’s Day, and hopefully she knows what to get for me.”

Moeller Brew Barn opened its doors in Maria Stein in 2015 with a second location in Troy in 2019, while Winans has been serving Ohio for four generations. This January marks the second year that both Ohio-built companies have joined forces to create the rich and nutty, Winans Wurtle Nut Brown Ale.

Moeller Brew Barn Releases HAY-Z Pale Ale

December 7, 2020 By Dayton Most Metro

Moeller Brew Barn’s new First Edition HAY-Z Pale Ale is set to release in both Brew Barn Taprooms (Troy and Maria Stein)  on Thursday, December 10. The fruity, floral and refreshing pale ale has loads of centennial, amarillo, galena and mosaic hops, along with an optimistic story in hopes of ending 2020 on a positive note. “With over 50 beers hitting the faucets, 2020 has been an experimental year. More than a dozen were the hoppy kind, my favorite. We’ve taken what we’ve learned, added a twist and are proud to announce our HAY-Z Pale Ale,” said Nick Moeller, Founder of Moeller Brew Barn.

The inspiration behind this ale’s fruity, floral flavor and visual style is The Old Farmer’s Almanac, an annual entertaining piece, plump full of predictions. As much of midwest Ohio is known for its prolific farming communities, locals can resonate with the nod to the publication. The Old Farmer’s Almanac has been published since 1792 during George Washington’s first term as president.

“Both Brew Barn locations are displayed on the can label, along with the agricultural landscape seen in the Maria Stein and Troy areas. The lively illustration includes Troy’s historic WACO biplane in the vivid orange sky, while rows of crops and silos cover the fields,” stated Jess Nielsen, Brand Manager of Moeller Brew Barn. “We all know that 2020 has been every bit unexpected,” said Moeller. “Our goal with this HAY-Z Pale Ale is to acknowledge that uncertainty while anticipating a better tomorrow. It’s bright and refreshing – what most of us are looking for in the new year.”

HAY-Z Pale Ale kegs and cans are set to hit distributors on December 14. The HAY-Z Pale Ale is just one of many late 2020 releases at Moeller Brew Barn. Every week through December, additional seltzer and beer releases will be announced to celebrate the season. To learn more, visit Moeller Brew Barn’s online untappd menu or www.moellerbrewbarn.com.

Moeller Brew Barn Releases Holiday Beers

November 1, 2020 By Lisa Grigsby

Moeller Brew Barn is preparing for a successful end to 2020 with the release of several new brews, including Peppermint Bark Silo Seltzer and Roasted Hazelnut Milk Porter in early November.  To pair with Troy Main Street’s upcoming Enchanted Wonderland Weekend, the Troy location, along with the Maria Stein location, are set to release a Peppermint Bark Silo Seltzer.

“We are so excited that Moeller Brew Barn is joining our downtown merchants in the festivities by releasing their new Peppermint Bark Seltzer. It has been so much fun to have Moeller Brew Barn in downtown Troy and we love all the ways they work to support the Troy Community,” mentioned Andrea Keller, Executive Director at Troy Main Street. “We hope everyone will come enjoy downtown Troy’s Enchanted Wonderland Weekend, and we hope that while you’re here you’ll grab a bite to eat and try a new holiday drink at Moeller Brew Barn!”

The Enchanted Wonderland Weekend will be held the first weekend of November with the Peppermint Bark Seltzer being released on Friday, November 6. The beverage will be the first wintery Silo Seltzer in Moeller’s history. A week after its release, the Roasted Hazelnut Milk Porter will hit the taps, an annual tradition.“Our milky-sweet chocolate porter is blended with roasted hazelnuts,” said Moeller. “If you’re looking to indulge, this is the one for you. It’s a perfect pair for the cooler temperatures.”

In early October, Salted Caramel Coffee Ale was released in both Taproom locations. The success of the ale, with 5.2% ABV and 25 IBU, has proven significant. Six-packs can be purchased at participating retailers statewide, and Salted Caramel can be found on tap in both Moeller Brew Barn Taprooms and at various establishments across the state of Ohio. “This year’s salted caramel coffee ale boasts a big aroma of something salty and sweet. All the flavors round out well in its medium body and hop bitterness. Crack one open, give it a vigorous pour, and enjoy,” said Nick Moeller, owner of Moeller Brew Barn.

Every week through November and December, additional seltzer and beer releases will be announced to celebrate the season. To learn more about these various releases, visit Moeller Brew Barn’s online untappd menu or www.moellerbrewbarn.com.

Lemon Berry Radler Raises Funds for Breast Cancer Services

August 31, 2020 By Lisa Grigsby

Moeller Brew Barn has once again partnered with a local organization, the Pink Ribbon Girls, in an effort to raise awareness about breast cancer.

“It’s the perfect end-of-summer beer and is pink in color due to its refreshing flavor and works well to raise awareness about breast and gynecological cancer and the Pink Ribbon Girls mission,” Nick Moeller, founder of Moeller Brew Barn, said.

Light bodied and bursting through with lemon and berry aromas with a delightfully pink hue that makes this collaboration with Moeller and the Pink Ribbon Girls a perfect match to raise awareness, and to make sure “no one travels this road alone.” Funds raised for the Pink Ribbon Girls through the sale of this beer will  provide Healthy Meals, Housecleaning, Rides to Treatment, and Peer Support to individuals with breast and gynecological cancers free of charge.

Brewery Planned for Downtown Troy

August 7, 2018 By Lisa Grigsby

Moeller Brew Barn in Maria Stein, just celebrated their 3rd anniversary at their original location in May, and now they’ve announced they’ll be opening a second location in downtown Troy. In the Spring of 2019, Moeller Brew Barn will open a location at 214 West Main Street. The approximately 8,000 square feet building will offer on-site handcrafted beer and locally sourced food menu.

The conversion of the building, built in 1919, will provide seating for up to 170 people and space for 1,800 barrels of craft beer annually. This establishment is expected to create 25 jobs.

“We’re excited to expand the Moeller Brew Barn brand with another brewing location in Troy. We’ll get to build our brewing expertise, continue to foster creativity for new products, and offer even more fresh local craft beer!” -Nick Moeller, Owner/Operator.

While you’re waiting for the Troy location to be built, take a road trip to the original location at 8016 Marion Dr. in Maria Stein, Ohio, it’s about an hour north of Dayton. With a dozen beers on tap, you’re sure to find some unusual brews, like their Wally Post Red, a malt-and-rye spice beer named in honor of local baseball legend Wally Post. “It was the most popular when it came out, and the popularity has stayed,” says Moeller.
