TSA PreCheck is an expedited screening program that makes risk assessments about passengers prior to their arrival at an airport checkpoint. In general, security screenings ahead of most domestic and select international flights for PreCheck members are often streamlined and more convenient. That’s partly because members do not have to remove belts, shoes or lightweight jackets at TSA security screenings. Also, large electronics like laptops and tablets can stay in their cases or carry-on bags.

In March 2023, 89% of TSA PreCheck passengers waited less than five minutes at airport security. Simply add your Known Traveler Number to your flight reservations to receive a “TSA PreCheck” designation on your boarding pass and use the dedicated security lines.

Children up to 12 years old do not need their own TSA PreCheck membership. As long as they are traveling with an adult who is a member, they can use the TSA Security lanes too. Children ages 13-17 can travel with TSA PreCheck member parents so long as the TSA PreCheck indicator appears on the child’s boarding pass as well.

Any person looking to apply for TSA PreCheck needs to click on the link below to fill out the application. On the last page of the application there will be an option to schedule an appointment. Choose the  Downtown Dayton Auto Title Branch at 451 W Third St., Dayton, OH 45422 or IdentoGO at 1487 W Main St in Tipp City, OH 45371-2803

LINK TO APPLICATION

It takes five minutes to submit an online application and schedule an in-person appointment that includes a background check and fingerprinting at an enrollment center.

The application fee for TSA PreCheck is $78 for 5 years and they do not accept cash or checks. Most applicants will receive their KTN (Known Traveler Number) in 3-5 days, through some applications can take up to 60 days.

How to get TSA PreCheck for free

While you can pay for TSA PreCheck with your credit card or debit card, you can actually get it for free instead of paying cash. Here are three ways to do just that:

  • Military benefits. All active members of the U.S. Armed Forces can receive TSA PreCheck benefits by entering their Department of Defense identification number as their Known Traveler Number. This includes those serving as Reserves and National Guard, as well as cadets and midshipmen attending a military academy.

  • Credit card benefits. Many travel cards reimburse TSA PreCheck application fees every four to five years. Example cards include the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card, The Platinum Card® from American Express and the IHG® One Rewards Premier Credit Card. Terms apply.

  • Redeem rewards. Some airline and hotel loyalty programs, such as Marriott Bonvoy and United MileagePlus, allow you to redeem miles and points to pay for TSA PreCheck application fees.

Her proudest accomplishment as a past president of the Miami Valley Restaurant Association was creating Restaurant Week, a twice a year tradition that continues to grow and benefit local charities as well. As a foodie, it's only natural that she continues to promote local restaurateurs with DaytonDining.
