Southeast Metro Library Adjusts Hours
Beginning Tuesday, October 1, Dayton Metro Library will close the Southeast Branch, located at 21 Watervliet Avenue, Dayton, 45420, from 2:30 – 5 pm, Monday through Friday.
“Unfortunately, there has been an incredible increase in teen fighting at the Southeast Branch,” explained Jeffrey Trzeciak, Executive Director, Dayton Metro Library. “After much discussion and consideration, we have decided to adjust the hours for the month of October. This closure will allow us the time we need to work with Dayton Public Schools, Dayton Police Department, and our community partners to develop better strategies and policies for managing the influx of teens and behavior issues we see each day at that location.”
New hours of operation for the Southeast Branch are:
Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday:
9:30 am – 2:30 pm and 5 – 8:30 pm
Wednesday and Friday:
9:30 am – 2:30 pm and 5 – 6 pm
Saturday:
9:30 am – 6 pm
Sunday: Closed
“This was not a decision that was made lightly. As a public Library we always want to be open and available to our communities,” said Trzeciak. “However, we also have an obligation to provide a safe space. I am hopeful that this temporary change in hours will allow us the time we need to consider new approaches.”

The Mousetrap at Troy Civic Theatre
Mousetrap by Agatha Christie, produced by special arrangement through Concord Theatricals, will be directed by Michael Schumacher. Early one winter afternoon, a brutal murder occurs on Culver Street in Paddington. Witnesses heard someone whistling the nursery rhyme “Three Blind Mice” just before the victim screamed. Later that afternoon, in the Great Hall of Monkswell Manor, Mollie and Giles Ralston prepare for the opening of their guest house, worrying about the effects of the severe snowstorm outside and their own inexperience in their new venture. Giles leaves, joking that since they know so little about their guests some might even be criminals. Alone, Mollie turns on the radio, where a description of the Culver Street murderer is being broadcast. The announcer mentions the suspect’s dark overcoat, light scarf, and felt hat just as Mollie picks up Giles’s dark coat, scarf, and hat.
Tuesday, Sept. 24 is Ohio Pint Day
Ohio Pint Day will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2024 at more than 180 participating breweries across the state. Craft beer enthusiasts are invited to purchase a limited-edition collectible pint glass available exclusively at the participating brewery taprooms.
In partnership with OCBA member breweries and Boelter Beverage, $1 from every glass will be donated to the OCBA.
They commissioned Sam Baird, art director at LemonGrenade Creative, to design the 2024 Ohio Pint Day glass. Here’s her statement about the design:
Ohio is known for several things. It’s home to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the NFL, and was the birthplace of aviation. For this year’s Ohio Pint Day glass, I wanted to highlight the latter. Taking a lot of inspiration from early airplane designs, I wanted a fun, retro feeling with lots of movement. Now-a-days, we tend to focus a lot on the here and now, so it was nice to step back in time and appreciate the past achievements of our fellow Ohioans. But in short, planes are cool! I hope you enjoy the design as much as I enjoyed creating it.
Ohio On Tap brewery passport app users will also be able to collect a bonus stamp by purchasing the glass. Users will be able to submit manual stamp request selfies with their glass from Sept. 24-29 to receive the stamp.
TO CLAIM A BONUS PASSPORT STAMP:
- Start this process at home or away from any brewery locations listed on the passport.
- Tap the “Passport” icon at the bottom of the screen or the large “Passport” button on the Home screen to go to the Passport section of the app.
- Tap the “Stamp My Passport” button at the bottom of the Passport screen.
- When the dialog box pops up, tap the “Manual Stamp Request” link in the box. (If you are at a brewery while trying to do this and you do not already have that brewery’s stamp in your passport, the app will automatically give you the brewery’s stamp first. You will need to follow these directions again after the 30 minute waiting period and away from any brewery to get the Ohio Pint Day stamp.)
- Tap the camera icon on the Manual Stamp Request screen to upload or take your selfie with the Ohio Pint Day glass.
- Tap the “Select Location” button and choose “Ohio Pint Day 2024” from the list. *Do not choose the brewery you bought the glass from: your request will be rejected and you’ll need to start over again.*
- Tap the orange “Submit Request” button.
*One (1) stamp per user. Must claim by Sunday, Sept.29, 2024.*
