Bakery owner Rachel Owens announced via Facebook that she will be closing her bakery that specialized in wedding and special occasion cakes. She opened the business in 2015. After 5 years in Beavercreek, she moved to Cross Pointe Center in Centerville in April of 2022.
Here’s what she posted:
“It is with a heavy heart, tear-filled eyes but minor relief that we announce that we have closed our double blue doors, one last time.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you to my community of supporters for the last 8 years! I have decided to take ahold of my mental health and put myself first. While it brought me immense joy to create for you and watch my employees be able to create and love what they do, I made the hardest decision of my life so far. Leaving this part of my life behind is very bittersweet. I have had my hands on cakes for 16 years!”
She continues with gratitude for her staff and a plea for
“My staff became family over the years and it breaks my heart to have to part with them. Every single one of them is honorable, kind, generous, and hard working. The talent that ran through rachelbakes was like none other!
We have partnered with another local bakery, the Cakery and highly recommended them to our cake family! A few of our decorators are going to be working for them here soon.
I have worked hard to do my best by my employees and my future prepaid customers. That being said, if you own or manage a local business and are hiring, I have a few employees still looking for that perfect fit! As for my customers, I used this weekend to reach out to those who had prepaid for orders. I had to leave messages for many. If you did not receive a call and feel as if you should have, please private message our business page!
Again, thank you for 8 years of allowing me to create edible art for you and your family. I will always hold this time close to my heart “
Customers shared their well wishes on her post:
Cassaundra Spaziani – “Thank you for all of the treats over the last few years. I used to only visit at Christmas but last week you helped me with an emergency order of cupcakes for my daughter. You will be missed. “
Shannon Hillard – “Those of us that own businesses understand this not as failure, but as the ultimate success to know what to prioritize. Best Wishes to you!”
Katie Easton – “So many good memories around your cakes! I know firsthand how hard it is to be a small business owner, especially in the current climate. It is all consuming and tests you in ways you could never prepare for. So proud of your bravery and openness in your mental health journey, and even more for your next steps into the unknown! Best of luck!”
Claire Linkhart – “Thank you for everything! You brought so much joy to my family through the beautiful art that is your cakes. You will be missed!”
Julia Soldi- “Your cakes were the best! Thank you for the memories. Now it’s time to take care of yourself.”
