Conservation team and volunteers from various fishing clubs and organizations across the region will sink hundreds of donated holiday trees donated by the community into Eastwood Lake on Wednesday starting at 10am. MetroParks’ holiday tree sinking will make up for the lack of a forest surrounding Eastwood Lake. The donated trees will act as a catalyst, creating much needed habitat for fish, as well as food for microscopic organisms. The trees will be bundled into groups of two or three, tied to cinder blocks — which

In recognition of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, Planned Parenthood Southwest Ohio and the Dayton YWCA are partnering to host a community screening of BEHIND CLOSED DOORS. This documentary follows three cases of domestic violence – from the moment emergency calls were placed, right through to the courts and beyond. On the day of the screening there is a minimum donation of $5. At The Neon, Tuesday, 7:30pm.
 Hayner’s November Drawing Room Concert features the Western Ohio Tuba Quartet. This unique instrumentation delivers a rich and resonant sound that simply needs to be experienced to appreciate. This free concert is Tuesday at 7:30pm.

An in-depth account of the techniques used by Mound Laboratory to make quality assurance measurements of weapons components for the Atomic Energy Commission.  Beyond Frontline: A community conversation about race. In September, Dayton was featured on PBS Frontline’s “Left Behind America” which documented the city’s struggle to recover in the post-recession economy. The New-England Boy’s Song about Thanksgiving Day, also known as “Over the River and Through the Wood”, is a Thanksgiving poem originally published in 1844 in Flowers for Children. Although many people sing “to grandmother’s house we go”, the author’s original words were “to grandfather’s house we go” and many people also mistakenly refer to the “Wood” in the song as plural “Woods” rather than singular.

The Floral Firing. Every piece is decorated with some sort of flower. Some are abstract, many are detailed interpretations of flowers from the garden… some even have birds and bees!

 The Last Waltz was the final live performance by The Band on November 25, 1976. It lives on thanks to Martin Scorsese who was on hand that night to film this epic concert. Decades later in Dayton and in cities all across the nation, an annual tradition has blossomed. At the Schu on Saturday at 8pm the Dayton Philharmonic welcomes over thirty local musicians for an outstanding night of music.

Beethoven Symphony No. 7, Dvorak Cello Concerto.
The cello was finally propelled to the level of the piano and violin as a prominent solo instrument with Dvorak’s concerto in B minor. The concerto’s focus on virtuosity also yields to tender and lyrical passages and recalls Dvorak’s Bohemian roots through the use of rhythmic folk melodies.
