Free Funk Fest Sunday

Sunday, August 13th, from 1p-9p at the Levitt Pavilion, the City of Dayton’s Recreation Department proudly presents the 4th Annual Dayton Funk Festival.

Live entertainment!  Multiple food and merchandise vendors. Cold beverages!

The lineup features local funk performers DAY 10, Skin Tight Nation, The Swagg Band, Top Secret and The Deron Bell Band. The festival will  will be emceed by Stan “The Man” Brooks.

*This is a free event but please no coolers or outside food/beverages.  Local food vendors will be on site.  Also, please no dogs or no tents….

A Summer Full of Free Music

The Miami Valley is full of free music this summer.  Here’s a run down of some of the places you can catch a free concert:

Levitt Pavilion Dayton
134 S. Main Street, Dayton

With free concerts from June to mid- September,  bring a lawn chairs (or rent one for $5) and blankets, pack a picnic, BYOB (no glass bottles). If weather requires a show cancellation, updates also a posted on the Levitt Pavilion Dayton’s website,  Facebook page and Twitter.

There are two VIP patios to either side of the Levitt lawn that are available for private receptions. This is a great area to utilize for parties, company outings, and clients. It is $1000 to rent the larger patio and $500 for the smaller for the night. They provide tables, chairs, and linens. You are welcome to bring in catering for your group.

 

The Pavilion at RiverScape MetroPark
111 E Monument Ave, Dayton

The Five Rivers MetroParks RiverScape Summer Music series kicks off and is divided into 3 series:

Pickin’ in the Park is a free, all-ages event that features live, progressive bluegrass music and food trucks from 6 to 10 pm on select Friday nights. This year’s lineup is:

  • June 3: Bigfoot Yancey and Al Scorch and the Country Soul Ensemble
  • Aug. 5: Sawgrass and Old Salt Union

R&B Hot Summer Music:  These free concerts are held on select Fridays from 7:30 to 9:30 pm and presented by Buckeye Health Plan.

  • June 10: KICK-N-FLAVA
  • July 8: LYD
  • Aug. 12: Premium Blend Music

Big Band Nights: These free concerts are held select Thursdays from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.

  • June 9: Bob Gray Orchestra
  • June 23: Tom Daugherty Orchestra
  • July 7: The Dayton Jazz Orchestra
  • July 21: Barry Campbell and his Big Band with vocalist Elaina McCormick
  • Aug. 11: The Kim Kelly Orchestra

All RiverScape Summer Music series concerts are free. Check out the Five Rivers MetroParks website for a full schedule and concert updates.

Centerville Community Amphitheater at Stubbs Park
255 W Spring Valley Pike, Centerville

Stubbs Park provides a great setting for theses free community concerts.  Bring your own chairs or blankets and plan on arriving early- these shows bring out big crowds.

All concerts are free and organized by the Centerville Arts Commission.

The City of Beavercreek Summer Concert Series
Dominick Lofino Park- 640 Grange Hall Rd Beavercreek

The concert series runs throughout June and July on Sundays from 7-8 pm

Springboro’s Summer Concert Series
North Park at 195 Tamarack Trail

Bring your own seating. We’ll have concessions and a variety of food trucks. Friday and Saturday, July 1 shows include beer sales.

A Summer of Free Concerts at Levitt Pavillion Kicks Off Saturday

Live music returns to the Levitt Dayton stage this summer with a diverse array of genres including bluegrass, hip hop, jazz, blues, funk, R&B, gospel, Christian, Celtic, classical, rock, country, Latin, reggae, ska, and psychobilly.

The season kicks off Saturday June 12th with Shamarr Allen. Hailing from the Lower 9th Ward of New Orleans, Shamarr Allen has influences in jazz, hip-hop, rock, funk rhythms, blues, and country. He is the lead vocalist and trumpeter of his band “Shamarr Allen & The Underdawgs.” In addition to displaying his skills on the front-line as a lead performer, Allen is also a music composer, writer, and producer. With a scintillating and unique sound, look, and exemplary talents, Shamarr Allen transcends musical boundaries.

All concerts begin at 7PM*. All concerts are free, and guests are invited to bring picnic blankets, chairs, food, and beverages.
