ArriveSafe Program is Back For The Holiday

December 21, 2022 By Dayton937

Montgomery County Prosecuting Attorney Mat Heck, Jr. announced that his ArriveSafe program will be offered over the Christmas and New Year’s holiday weekends, thanks to the continued support from Heidelberg Distributing/Budweiser and Key-Ads.

Prosecutor Heck said, “I am happy to announce that over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, there were no fatal traffic crashes in Montgomery County. In large part because so many in our community made the smart choice and did not get behind the wheel after consuming alcohol and instead used ArriveSafe. I am proud to announce that 189 people got home safely by getting a free Uber ride home.”

Prosecutor Heck noted that his ArriveSafe Program has provided nearly 8,600 free rides home for Montgomery County residents since the program was started in 2007.

Over the past five years, due to a deadly combination of drug and alcohol-impaired drivers, distracted drivers, and excessive speed, Ohio motorists had over 78,000 OVI-related traffic crashes, which resulted in more than 3,000 fatalities.

ArriveSafe will be offering free Uber rides home for Montgomery County residents over Christmas from 6:00 p.m. Friday, December 23, 2022, through 6:00 a.m. Monday, December 26, 2022, and again over New Year’s, from 6:00 p.m. Friday, December 30, 2022 through 6:00 a.m. Monday, January 2, 2023. Those residents who need a ride home can scan the QR code at www.mcpo.com which will add a voucher to their Uber account.

Prosecutor Heck added, “Let’s work together and make sure there are no fatal traffic crashes in Montgomery County this Christmas and New Year’s holidays. Let ArriveSafe provide you with a free ride home.”

RTA Extending FREE Weekend Rides Through New Year’s Day

August 22, 2022 By Dayton937

With gas prices remaining high – the Greater Dayton RTA wants to encourage community members to save money by using public transit by extending its free summer weekend rides through January 1, 2023.

There is a lot happening on the weekends, whether you’re making an essential trip or attending an event, the RTA wants to ensure equitable access to community members. The free weekend rides will apply to both fixed-route and paratransit services every Saturday and Sunday through January 1. Riders will get to reap the benefits of extended weekend hours as the RTA now proudly serves Montgomery County every day from 5 a.m. to 1 a.m. on most routes.

“With the RTA now offering the same level of service seven days a week, we felt free rides on the weekends would be a great way to get folks familiar with using RTA and providing them with a reliable transportation option for all their weekend needs,” said Bob Ruzinsky, RTA CEO.

To find route times, customers can plan their trip using the free Transit app, or find their route schedule at www.iriderta.org.

“Arrive Safe” Returns with Free Rides Home in Montgomery County

November 24, 2021 By Dayton937

Montgomery County Prosecuting Attorney Mat Heck, Jr. announced today that with support from the Heidelberg Distributing Company/Budweiser, and Key-Ads, the ArriveSafe program will return for the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. The ArriveSafe program was suspended due to the pandemic in 2020.

A new and exciting enhancement to the program is the announcement that ArriveSafe will now be providing Uber rides. The program will work the same as in past years – those who have been celebrating with alcohol can call 937-449-9999 and give the operator their name, a cellphone number, and their pick-up and drop-off locations. The operator will dispatch an Uber driver to get them home safely. The caller doesn’t even need to have the Uber app on their phone – they will receive text messages with information about their Uber ride.

Prosecutor Heck said, “People are gathering again and celebrating the holidays with their family and friends. Recently it has been reported that there has been a marked increase in traffic crashes in the area for several reasons, including impaired and distracted drivers. There is simply no excuse for driving while impaired this Thanksgiving weekend. Either have a sober designated driver or call ArriveSafe to get you home safely.”

ArriveSafe will be offering free cab rides home for Montgomery County residents from 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 24, 2021, through 6:00 a.m. Sunday, November 28, 2021.

Prosecutor Heck added, “Don’t risk spending your Thanksgiving weekend in jail or worse, in the emergency room! Call ArriveSafe for a free Uber ride home.”

RTA Book Drive

June 2, 2017 By Dayton Most Metro

Summer is almost here and at the Greater Dayton RTA that means the return of the “Read on RTA” program. To kick off the fourth year of RTA distributing books to children across the Greater Dayton area, we’ll be offering a Read on RTA Free Ride Day on Friday, June 2 for any RTA riders who donate a new or gently-used children’s book when they board the bus.

Collection boxes will be aboard every bus—including all fixed-route and Project Mobility buses—for donations. Each person can receive one free ride per book donated, per trip. A book must be presented for each ride if a customer wants to receive more than one free trip on the Read on RTA Free Ride Day. This promotion is only for books donated on Friday, June 2. The RTA asks that all books be in good condition and are appropriate for children ages 0-18 years. No textbooks, please.

Riders will receive a free ride on the trip they donate. A book must be presented each ride if a customer wants to participate on more than one bus trip during the Free Ride Day.

Beginning Monday, June 5, Read on RTA will begin distributing books for children across all five transit centers:

• . Wright Stop Plaza, 4 S. Main St., Dayton

• . Northwest Transit Center, 2075 Shiloh Springs Rd., Trotwood

• . Eastown Transit Center, 1218 Falke Dr., Dayton

• . Westown Transit Center, 122 Elmhurst Dr., Dayton

• . South Transit Center, 2730 Lyons Dr., Miami Township

Read on RTA aims to battle the “summer slide” –the academic backslide children can experience while they’re not actively learning in the classroom during summer months. Kids of all age levels are encourage to take a book and enjoy!

RTA and Read on RTA partners such as Dayton Metro Libraries, Half Priced Books in Beavercreek, Project Read and more, plan to make a difference in the lives of hundreds of children across the Greater Dayton area this summer.
