Sugar Plum Tea

Dayton Ballet Barre offers fun holiday tradition with Sugar Plum Tea

December 3, 2022 By Dayton937

Dayton Ballet Barre offers fun holiday tradition with Sugar Plum Tea, a children’s tradition before the December 18th matinee performance of the Dayton Ballet’s The Nutcracker. This is the first Tea back since the pandemic shutdown, and organizers are planning a fun comeback event at the Dayton Woman’s Club, which is within walking distance of the Schuster Center.

The Dayton Ballet Barre is the Dayton Ballet’s volunteer booster organization, and one of their signature events is the long-running Sugar Plum Tea. Held prior to one of the matinee performances of the Ballet’s beloved Nutcracker production, it’s become a holiday tradition that families look forward to. Geared towards children and parents / grandparents, the afternoon tea promises to provide many cherished memories.

“We love hosting this children’s event!” Libby Ballengee, the Ballet Barre’s Secretary and past President, shared with us. “It’s like Prom for five-year-olds. We adore seeing all the kid’s sparkly dresses & suits. It’s a really special afternoon, and we’re so happy to be back hosting this after two years off.”

The Tea lasts for 90 min, enough time for to enjoy hot beverages & tea sandwiches, make a craft, learn a short dance from the Sugar Plum Fairy, and hear the story of The Nutcracker under the Christmas Tree. Each moment provides a beautiful photo opportunity against the gorgeous back-drop of the Dayton Woman’s Club.

All children and adults need a ticket to attend. The ticket includes tea party foods (cute sandwiches, fruit, & yummy desserts, with hot beverages including hot chocolate, tea, and coffee. This ticket does not include a ticket to the Dayton Ballet performance. Those are purchased separately through DaytonLive.org.

Children Celebrate the Holidays at the Sugar Plum Tea

December 8, 2016 By LIbby Ballengee

The Dayton Ballet’s holiday performance of The Nutcracker has become a beloved family holiday tradition. Make the performance extra special for the little ones by attending the “Sugar Plum Tea” – a special pre-performance annul event presented by the Dayton Ballet Barre.  15235660_10211086207049720_4735667695684968637_o

This year’s event moves to the Dayton Woman’s Club, a beautiful setting that provides tea service, petit fours, mini sandwiches and other yummy delights. Children will have an opportunity for photos with the Sugar Plum Fairy and Nutcracker, learn dance steps, color, and hear the story of The Nutcracker before the performance. It’s a memorable experience for all!

This is a one-time only event this year, held on Sunday December 18th from 12:30pm – 2pm, before the matinee Nutcracker performance that starts at 2:30pm. Tickets to the Tea are $15 for children and adults and can be purchased here or by calling Ticket Center Stage at 937-228-3630.

All proceeds benefit the Dayton Ballet Barre, a volunteer organization that supports the Dayton Ballet. 15304344_10211106962288588_5594570315087652565_o

Enjoy Tea With the Sugar Plum Fairy

December 8, 2015 By Dayton Most Metro

5238be893a297.imageMake the tradition of seeing Dayton Ballet’s “The Nutcracker” extra special by attending a Sugar Plum Tea pre-performance  presented by the Dayton Ballet Barre.

There are two opportunities to attend, December 13th and December 20th, from 1pm – 2pm, prior to the 2:30pm matinee performances, at the Boston Stoker on 2nd St, just across from the Schuster.   Tickets are $10 per person (children or adults) and we suggest you purchase them in advance, as these will sell out!

Children will enjoy meeting both the Sugarplum Fairy and the Nutcracker! They will even have the opportunity to learn a few dance steps from our favorite Fairy! They will hear the story of the Nutcracker, so they can enjoy the ballet even more! Yummy snacks and hot beverages provided. And a few surprises! This is a wonderful way to expand on the holiday tradition of seeing Dayton Ballet’s The Nutcracker!
