Ludacris Coming To Fraze

February 16, 2024 By Dayton937

On Thurs July 18th Ludacris, famous for  singles “Stand Up,” “Get Back,” “Southern Hospitality,” “Number One Spot,” “Money Maker” and “My Chick Bad” will appear in Kettering.  Tickets will go on sale on Sat, Feb 24th at 10am and range from $45.50-70.

The career of the multi-talented CHRIS “LUDACRIS” BRIDGES can best be described as remarkable. As a recording artist, he has sold more than 24 million albums worldwide, thanks to the blockbuster success of such singles as “Stand Up,” “Get Back,” “Southern Hospitality,” “Number One Spot,” “Money Maker” and “My Chick Bad.” All of these records were accompanied by ingenious videos that demonstrated Bridges’ far-reaching imagination, and his willingness to stretch the boundaries of what rap videos should look and feel like.

With an unrivaled match of lyrical acumen, wit, and imagery, Ludacris has solidified himself as one of music’s premier entertainers. His versatility and artistic complexity also enabled him to make a seamless transition to acting, including the fan favorite role of “Tej” in Universal Pictures’ box office phenomenon Fast & Furious franchise where he was introduced for the first time in 2003 in 2 Fast 2 Furious. He reprised his role of “Tej” for the seventh time in Fast X, released May 2023.

His other notable feature film credits include Garry Marshall’s ensemble comedy New Year’s Eve, Ivan Reitman’s romantic comedy, No Strings Attached, Paul Higgin’s Crash which received an Academy Award for Best Picture in 2006 and Hustle & Flow which earned Bridges a SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.

As a father of four girls, his latest ventures fittingly include launching his educational platform devoted to the enrichment of children called “KidNation.” In addition, Bridges created the animated series KARMA’S WORLD which launched in the Top 10 in 42 countries on Netflix, received two NAACP Award nominations and is already on its fourth season. The series for children ages 6-9 is a coming-of-age story about a young Black girl finding her voice and using it to change her world — originally inspired by Chris’s oldest daughter Karma and based on the interactive educational website of the same name created by Karma’s World Entertainment in 2009.

A consummate businessman, Ludacris is enjoying success outside of entertainment. One of his most successful ventures includes opening his long-anticipated restaurant “Chicken-n-Beer” at the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta Airport with a new location at LAX.

Bridge’s philanthropic efforts rival his entertainment accomplishments. He started The Ludacris Foundation in 2001 which focuses on helping the youth in his hometown of Atlanta and has partnered with No Kid Hungry and Feeding America.

Additions to Fraze Summer Line Up

March 24, 2023 By Dayton937

Fraze announces two more shows:

38 Special & Loverboy

Mix 107.7 SummerFest Kick-Off Concert

SATURDAY, JUNE 3 at 8pm

38 SPECIAL continues to bring their signature blast of Southern Rock to over 100 cities a year. Their many Gold and Platinum album awards stand in testament to the endurance of a legendary powerhouse with their arena-rock pop smashes including “Hold On Loosely,” “Rockin’ Into the Night,” “Caught Up in You,” “Fantasy Girl,” “If I’d Been the One,” “Back Where You Belong,” “Chain Lightnin’,” “Second Chance,” and more!

Guitarist/vocalist DON BARNES says it’s all about maintaining that intensity in their live shows. “We never wanted to be one of those bands that had maybe gotten a little soft or complacent over the years. We’re a team, and it’s always been kind of an unspoken rule that we don’t slack up, we stack up. We go out there every night to win.”

Boney James & Lalah Hathaway

with special guest Damien Escobar

SUNDAY, JULY 23 at 7:30on

Boney James

Detour, on Concord Records, is chart-topping jazz/R&B sax player Boney James’ 18th studio album. Appropriately titled, this latest album is a subtle stylistic turn that builds on the commercial success of 2020’s Solid, his highest charting release ever on the pop charts, peaking in the Top 10 on the Billboard 200.

“The urge to write again came from the joy of being back on the road, performing in front of live audiences,” explains Boney. “I had shut down creatively when the pandemic hit. It was the disruptive and disorienting detour we all took when the world locked down, and that’s reflected in the more experimental directions some of the new music takes. The thing about a detour, you may take a different route, but you still get to your destination.”

Lalah Hathaway

Lalah Hathaway is a 5x GRAMMY award-winning singer/songwriter and producer and 10-time nominee. Undeniable music royalty and a 30-year music industry veteran, Lalah’s music transcends genre – from R&B ballads to pop standards and soulful jazz – she has collaborated with today’s top hitmakers, including Pharrell Williams, Kendrick Lamar, Dr. Dre, Anderson. Paak, Robert Glasper, Rapsody, Snoop Dogg and Esperanza Spalding. Lalah has also shared the stage with music legends, from Prince to Stevie Wonder to Herbie Hancock, and was recently decorated with an honorary doctorate from Berklee College of Music. Lalah’s song “Show Me Your Soul,” from the hit documentary ‘Mr. Soul!,’ was featured on the Oscars 2021 shortlist for Best Original Song and in December 2022, the video dropped for Lalah’s new single ‘This Christmas’ – a duet with her late father, Donny Hathaway, made from a previously unreleased version of his classic Christmas anthem.

Known for her confessional lyrics and raspy, smoky vocals, Etheridge has remained one of America’s favorite female singer-songwriters for more than two decades.

Melissa Etheridge stormed onto the American rock scene in 1988 with the release of her critically acclaimed self-titled debut album, which led to an appearance on the 1989 Grammy Awards show. For several years, her popularity grew around such memorable originals as “Bring Me Some Water,” “No Souvenirs” and “Ain’t It Heavy,” for which she won a Grammy® in 1992. Etheridge hit her commercial and artistic stride with her fourth album, Yes I Am (1993). The collection featured the massive hits, “I’m the Only One” and “Come to My Window,” a searing song of longing that brought Etheridge her second Grammy® Award for Best Female Rock Performance. In 1995, Etheridge issued her highest charting album, Your Little Secret, which was distinguished by the hit single, “I Want to Come Over.” Her astounding success that year led to Etheridge receiving the Songwriter of the Year honor at the ASCAP Pop Awards in 1996. On September 17, 2021, Melissa released a new album called One Way Out. The 9-track album is a collection of songs Etheridge wrote in the late ‘80s and early ‘90s that never made the cut….until now! The time is finally right, and fans will finally get a deeper glimpse to who Melissa was then.

TLC

TLC’s influence transcends genres from pop, hip-hop, R&B to fashion and female  empowerment. They continue to define generations. To date, TLC has sold 85 million Records Worldwide, had 4 Number One singles  in the US, 10 Top Ten singles in the US, won 4 Grammy Awards, 5 MTV Awards, 5 Soul  Train Awards, and 4 Multi-Platinum selling albums, two of them – Fanmail and  CrazySexyCool are certified Diamond by the RIAA and they currently have one billion  plays on Pandora. It’s no surprise that TLC is the best-selling American girl group of all  time.

Formed in Atlanta in 1990, Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes and Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins, two girls  with spirit, smarts and spunk, had their sights set on a big future. Feeling a trio could work better than a duo, a manager recommended  Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas to round out the sound, with their nicknames spelling out the  acronym TLC. By 1992, the girls had not only been signed, but released their first  album, Ooooooohhh… On the TLC Tip, to both critical and commercial success, selling 4  million copies in the Unites States and yielding 3 top ten singles. Along with their ability  to blend funk, hip hop and soul, the ladies put female empowerment at the forefront of  their songwriting. Two years later they released their breakthrough album,  CrazySexyCool. Met with critical and commercial  acclaim once more, Rolling Stone ranked it as one of the best 500 Albums of all time  saying it was “highly enjoyable, incredibly influential and a certified classic.” The album  produced 4 top five singles on the Billboard charts and TLC won Video of the Year for  the song “Waterfalls” at the MTV Awards, making them the first black act to do so.

Shaggy

The two-time Grammy winner was born Orville Richard Burrell and raised in Kingston, Jamaica, Shaggy got his start as a club DJ in New York City’s burgeoning dancehall scene soon after moving to Brooklyn in his teens. Not long after serving four years in the U.S. Marines (including two tours of duty in the Middle East as part of Operation Desert Storm), he inked his first record deal and quickly scored a global crossover smash with “Oh Carolina.”

As the only diamond-selling dancehall artist in music history, Shaggy, managed by the Cherrytree Music Company, has sold more than 40 million album units to date, in addition to landing eight singles on the Billboard Hot 100 and seven albums on the Billboard 200 (including four in the top 40). He is among the top 3 streamed reggae artists of all time on Spotify (along with Bob Marley & Sean Paul).

Reba, Roger Daltry, Jim Gaffigan Coming to Fraze

February 2, 2018 By Dayton Most Metro

The one-and-only REBA McEntire is returning to Fraze Pavilion on Saturday, August 4, 2018. Her previous performance in 2015 on the Fraze Pavilion stage was a quick sell-out. Don’t miss getting tickets to see this multi-talented singer with 35 No. 1 singles and over 56 million albums sold worldwide. Reba’s 13th consecutive #1 album Sing It Now: Songs Of Faith & Hope topped both the Billboard Country and Christian/Gospel charts, bolstering her successful record of 35 No. 1 singles and over 56 million albums sold worldwide. The double-disc collection, released jointly on Nash Icon Records / Capitol Christian Music Group, earned Reba her first GMA Dove Award for Bluegrass/Country/Roots Album of the Year and won the 2018 GRAMMY Award for Best Roots Gospel Album.

The Country Music Hall of Fame and Grand Ole Opry member has won 15 American Music Awards, 14 ACM Awards, 9 People’s Choice Awards, 6 CMA Awards and 2 Grammy Awards, in addition to other philanthropic and leadership honors. Fraze Pavilion is pleased to be one of only 10 venues this summer to welcome Roger Daltrey performing The Who’s “TOMMY” with members of The Who Band and the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra on July 2nd.

The performance at Fraze Pavilion will feature full orchestral backing by members of the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra. Daltrey and his band will be showcasing the beloved classics from the 1969 rock opera, including “Pinball Wizard,” “See Me, Feel Me” and more.

Considered one of the seminal albums of the rock canon, last year The Who played all of TOMMY for the first time in 28 years at the Royal Albert Hall in London as part of a benefit concert for the Teenage Cancer Trust. Roger performed it in its entirety with his band during his 2011 solo tour. The opportunity to bring an orchestral dynamic to the raw emotion and cathartic impact of the songs that cemented Daltrey’s legacy as a vocal powerhouse adds a compelling dimension to the music’s timelessness.

Daltrey comments, “I’m really looking forward to singing TOMMY, not only with my great backing group, but also some of the finest orchestras in the country. Pete Townshend’s rock music is particularly suited to being embellished by the sounds that an orchestra can add to the band. With the arrangements written by David Campbell, it should make a memorable night of entertainment for all those who love the arts.”

Tickets range from $60 to $120 in advance and GO ON SALE tomorrow, February 3rd at 10am

Guest Bartending Last Week at The Moraine Embassy!

There are lots of great things going on this week in Dayton, so let’s jump right into it!

On Wednesday, support DATV by attending the DATV Fishing Derby at Gettysburg Fish Lake.  If you’re like me and can only draw stick people, then you may want to attend the Drawing Studio with Loretta Puncer at Gallery 510 Fine Art.  Head to Courthouse Square to see the Blue Sky Project ‘Artists without Borders’ Solo Exhibition.  No matter what you’ve been thinking about the national debt crisis, you will be able to share your opinions at ThinkTV with their Citizens Forum on the National Debt.  Over at Chappy’s, participate in their Southern Tier Creme Brulee Tapping…sounds delicious!  There are also some great musical options for Wednesday!  You can see Muse Machine in Concert as they perform ‘Tonight’ at Victoria Theatre, Alien Ant Farm at McGuffy’s House of Rock, or Miranda Cosgrove at the Fraze.

On Thursday, make your way to Courthouse Square for the The Square Is Where featuring Beseda Folk Dancers.  Enjoy fresh local produce at the Centerville Farmers Market.  If you have young kids, consider taking them to Story Hour at Cooper Park or to the Salvation Army Kroc Center for the Shoot! Score! Success! Back2School Family Event.  Both are FREE!  If you enjoy good food, you will not want to miss The Taste of The Greene, which will feature great food from The Greene’s wonderful restaurants.  And be sure to get your tickets in advance in order to get the discounted price!  Meet some great young professionals at Generation Dayton’s Thirsty Thursday at Milano’s on Brown Street.  If you Muse Machine in Concert - TONIGHT: The Songs of West Side Story & Moredidn’t get to see the Muse Machine’s ‘Tonight’ performance on Wednesday, then tonight is definitely the night!  Or catch live music at the Dayton Art Institute for their Twilight Concert, at RiverScape for Big Band Nights featuring the Hal Harris Orchestra, or at the Fraze to see Willie Nelson.

On Friday, during your lunch hour, head to Courthouse Square for The Square Is Where featuring Mindy Galvin Band…just don’t be a square and not attend.  If you see food and then enjoy eating it, you’ll want to attend the Seafood Extravaganza at The Dock.  And if seafood is not your thing, then make your way to Oregon Express for their amazing Half-Price Happy Hour Pizzas.  Although the end of summer is drawing near, you will be able to see A Midsummer Night Dream which is being presented by Free Shakespeare at the University of Dayton’s ArtStreet.  Make your way to Fifth Third Field for Friday Night Fights.  At Victoria Theatre, see The African Queen as part of the Michelob Ultra Cool Films Series.  And finally, get a brat (the food kind) and drink some German beer at the Germanfest Picnic, which is being held at Carillon Park.

On Saturday, get fresh local produce with City Beets at the Market at the PNC 2nd Street Market or at the Troy Farmers Market.  I don’t know how to say the name of this wine, but if you like Sauvignon Blanc, then make your way to Jungle Jim’s for their Sauvignon Blancs of the World tasting.  Speaking of wine, the Fraze will be hosting the Festival of the Vine, which will feature fine wine and cool jazz.  Help make history by bringing a canned good to Brixx for their Canned Food Drive and possibly setting a new Guinness World Record for the most food collected in a 24 hour period.  Head up to Boston’s Bistro for their 10th Semi-Annual Greek Night or to the Dayton Visual Arts Center for the High-Rise Harmony Artist Palate Party.  At Carillon Park, join the many Germans (and wannabe Germans) drinking German beer and eating German food as part of the Germanfest Picnic.  At Stubbs Amphitheater, listen to the Centerville Community Band.  Watch Free Shakespeare’s presentation of A Midsummer Night Dream at the University of Dayton’s ArtStreet.  And finally, enjoy the summer weather and head to Fifth Third Field as the Dragons play the Lake County Captains.

On Sunday, all arts and crafts lovers should make plans to attend Art on the Commons, which will take place at Civic Commons Park in Kettering.  The Germanfest Picnic will still be going on over at Carillon Park.  If you didn’t get to make it to the 2nd Street Market earlier in the weekend, then perhaps you should go to the Garden Station Sunday Market.  Sit in the air conditioning at Victoria Theatre in order to see The African Queen as part of the Michelob Ultra Cool Films Series.  At the University of Dayton’s ArtStreet, you will still be able to see A Midsummer Night Dream presented by Free Shakespeare.  Catch the Dayton Dragons as they play the Lake County Captains.  And finally, there are a few opportunities for live music – Pizzazz in the Park Summer Concert Series: Jake & Elwood Blues Revue at Riverfront Park in Miamisburg, The Sauerkraut German Band at Stubbs Amphitheater, and The Charlie Daniels Band at the Miami County Agricultural Society.  Their show may be “the best there’s ever been.”

And now it’s time for the Dumb Joke of the Week. Drum roll please…

What do you call a bear with no teeth?  A gummy bear.

These are just a few best bets from the DMM Calendar.  There are plenty more events listed there, so if you haven’t, I encourage you to check it out today!  Also, if you have an event to share or promote, please submit it– it’s great marketing and better yet, it’s FREE!  And finally, if you have a dumb joke to share, I’m all ears!

Have a great week Dayton!

Food Adventures heat things up at the Kickin’ Chicken Wing Fest at Fraze

July 14, 2011 By Dayton937 1 Comment

Stepping out of our Sebring convertibles on a humid summer day in front of the crowd, we knew we were in for a hot time.   The Big Ragu, with horrendous windblown hair, sniffed the aroma and approached the festival.  Make no mistake, Ragu loves wings, well done wings cooked all the way through.  Some prefers boneless chicken wings and all was unleashed at the fest.

Your Food Adventurers arrived at the first ever KICKIN’ CHICKEN WING FEST at Fraze Pavillion in Kettering right at the fest opening time of 2pm.  A crowd had already formed in the 90 degree heat.  Eleven restaurants offered their take on the almighty chicken wing.    Some offered other menu items in addition to wings, and most booths offered wings in 5 or more sauces.

Little did we know, the first wings we tried were going to be our favorites.  A place called Nick’s Restaurant from Xenia, had our favorite wing flavor of the day.  We had never heard of this place, but their Spicy Garlic Wing was our vote for best chicken wing.  Great taste, great kick and there was Parmesan cheese in the sauce.

Nick’s Restaurant’s Spicy Garlic Wings were our favorite flavor at the fest

As we walked from vendor to vendor we saw familiar favorites and some unfamiliar restaurants.  There were BW3, Rooster’s, Cold Beer & Cheeseburgers, Beef O’Brady’s, and Buffalo Wings and Rings, all which we have had often.

We also saw McGillicutty’s restaurant out of Kettering who offered baked chicken wings, a tasty alternative to the fried fare.   Your Food Adventurers really enjoyed the hottest wings offered by Romer’s Sports Bar & Grill from Bellbrook.  They were scorching hot and turned on the waterworks for an already sweaty Big Ragu.

Romer’s Hot Wings Really Lit Us Up !

The prices of the wings were reasonable, 3 wings for $2. The cold beer sold for the regular inflated price of 5 bucks, which did not seem so bad on this steamy day.

We visited the Brixx Ice House Booth for Chicken Skewers with Bourbon Sauce and Vegetable Shish Kabobs.  Not bad for only 2 dollars a skewer.

We enjoyed the hot wings at the Archer’s  Tavern booth, which featured fiery sauces from Crazy Uncle Jesters.  We also tried the whole wings from Paradise Key which were a little undercooked for our taste, but they had the most customers in line for food.

Other sauces that we enjoyed were Buffalo Wings and Rings Parmesan Garlic,  Sweet n Sassy wings from Cold Beer and Cheeseburgers along with their Chipotle wings.  More favorites were the Rooster’s Killer sauce, Romer’s Asian Persuasion wings, and Archer’s wings with Crazy Uncle Jester’s Louisiana Firestorm or Jamaican Hellfire sauces!  We love BW3’s Teriyaki sauce while Ragu hit some of their Carribean Jerk wings.

The Sweet n Sassy wings from Cold Beer & Cheeseburgers were wickedly tangy

The heat and the spices took their toll this Food Adventure.  At the end our our tasting, we looked over and laughed at the messy Big Ragu.  With sauce on his face and hands, Ragu had to take a time out to wash up with cold water in the bathroom sink.  What emerged was a sopping wet Ragu, with his hair slicked back and bloodshot eyes.  His  chapped lips were still burning, but he managed a smile.  Sure some lines were long, but there was a “hot time in the old town tonight!”  We loved the first annual Kickin’ Chicken Wing Festival, it definitely didn’t lay an egg!

Over 40 restaurants will be serving up samples of their specialties at Lincoln Park Commons starting at 5pm on Thurs, Sept 2nd to benefit the Kettering-Moraine-Oakwood Chamber of Commerce.  As a past attendee of this event I can tell you that the $20 advance ticket price ($25 day of event) is a bargain, but be prepared to stand in long lines.

Some highlights to look for will be the debut of Joya’s Bistro, the new Italian pizza & pasta place that will be opening this fall at The Greene, newer restaurants Butter Cafe and The Hawthorn Grill are first time participants worth checking out, The Oakwood Club usually serves up some spectacular salmon,  and be sure to save some room for samples from ele Cake Company- best known for finger licking good buttercream frosting!

Austrian Fest means Fun Night at Fraze!

June 7, 2010 By Lisa Grigsby Leave a Comment

Litterally translated Spass Nacht means fun night and that’s exactly what the Kettering Sister City Association has planned for Wed, June 9th from 5:30-9:30pm at Fraze Pavillion.  With brats, metts, hot dogs, sauerkraut, potato salad, pretzels, baked goods, Wurst mit bier, wine, on the menu and The Schnapps Band playing polkas, waltzes, schottisches, and other traditional “oompah” tunes, how could it not be fun?

Admission is free and food is billed at being reasonably priced at this annual fundraiser to support youth exchanges with Steyr, Austria.
