International Best Selling Author visits Dayton to Discuss Power of Meditation

June 22, 2018 By LIbby Ballengee

We are living in a time of much discord, both within the society at large, and within our own hearts. It’s a time when many people are finding the stresses of everyday modern life are taking a toll on their health, careers and relationships. What can we do to find some balance in such an overwhelming, fast paced world?

One of the most important ways to maintain inner peace is through meditation. For most people, this advice is not new. They’ve heard it time and again, but with so much to do, who has time to do “nothing”? Ultra successful people like Steve Jobs, Oprah, Seinfeld, Madonna and many others credit meditation as a key factor in their success. If they have time to meditate, then surely we do too!

Taking time to meditate is not “doing nothing.” It’s giving your restless mind time to calm down, to slow your heart rate, and connect with your inner-self. Uma Mullapudi, a local meditation trainer, explained to me “You take a shower and brush your teeth. You don’t think about it, it’s just part of your daily routine. Meditation is a cleansing for the mind, and it needs it just as badly as your body.” I inquired why our minds need this cleansing so badly. “It’s because you take in stressors and negative impressions going through your day. Meditation, especially Heartfulness method, clears those away.”

The Heartfulness Way that Mullapudi describes is a century-old method of meditation with the power to facilitate an immediate, tangible spiritual experience, irrespective of a person’s faith. This non-denominational practice is taught all over the world, and most recently, the subject of a new best selling book The Heartfulness Way – Simple Tools for Spiritual Transformation. In this heart-centered book, a student, Joshua Pollock, is in conversation with his teacher, Kamlesh D. Patel—affectionately known as Daaji.

While many books describe refined states of being, The Heartfulness Way goes further, providing a pragmatic course to experience those states for oneself, which, per the book’s guiding principle, is “greater than knowledge.” Joshua Pollock is a Heartfulness trainer and practitioner from the United States. In fact, he visited Dayton in his early days of learning the Heartfulness meditation practice.  He returns to Dayton on June 24th and June 25th to discuss the journey of writing this book, and how Heartuflness has changed his life, and can help yours too!

The sessions include Q&A with the Joshua Pollock, along with a 30 min Heartfulness medtation session. Find out how you can earn about the Heartfulness Way at one of two local sessions listed below. Also a trailer for the book is at bottom of this article.

3rd Annual Mass Meditation & Yoga Event at Courthouse Square

September 19, 2017 By Dayton Most Metro

Dayton’s Mass Meditation and Yoga event at Courthouse Square is planned for September 21, 2017 from 5:30-7pm

For the third year in a row, the Heartfulness Institute of Dayton invites the entire community downtown to Courthouse Square on Thursday Septemeber 21st, 2017 for free, beginner-friendly yoga and meditation sessions. This lovely, community building event celebrates both the autumn equinox and the United Nation’s International Day of Peace.

The idea for this type of “mass meditation” came from Libby Ballengee, a local event organizer, who was inspired by a similar event that was planned for New York City’s Central Park. She dubbed the first event “Dayton Big Quiet” and sought out assistance from meditation experts. Ballengee explains, “It started as a “what if” conversation on Twitter, and the idea took off. It was recommended that I check out the Natural Path Meditation Center in Beavercreek for help, and I’m so glad I did! They were the perfect partner for this event.”

They were perfect for the event because teaching meditation to the community is their speciality. The Natural Path Meditation Center is also known as The Heartfulness Institute of Dayton, a non-profit educational organization. They offer free relaxation, meditation, and yoga classes, as a service to the community, so that everyone has the same tools to manage stress. They are not affiliated with any religions. The meditation trainers simply want to help spread inner peace to all, in an effort to achieve world peace. The Dayton organization has been recognized by the State of Ohio for its significant contributions to the region.

Most recently, the organization opened a center inside the Fairfield Commons Mall, which offers these same free classes. It’s an incredible way to disconnect from our busy, plugged-in world, and simply let our minds rest. You can try out this heart-based meditation style at the meditation center in Beavercreek, the mall location, or downtown at this unique first day of fall event!

Free Relaxation, Meditation & Yoga offered at Fairfield Commons Mall

July 21, 2017 By LIbby Ballengee

Recently I interviewed the three Dayton Police Majors, asking them what we can do to preventatively to help defeat the opioid crisis. “Teach people coping mechanisms,” was the resounding response. They explained that often they encounter good people who simply don’t know how to handle life’s disappointments, so they turn to drugs. It made me wonder what coping mechanisms are best, and really work?

In today’s heated and divisive political climate, again, people are searching for ways to de-stress and get perspective. Again, what is the best way to do just that? Turns out, whatever reason you may be seeking inner peace, meditation is far and away, one of the easiest and most effective ways to handle these difficulties.

In the Dayton area, accessing meditation and yoga (a physical form of meditation), just got a whole lot easier! The Heartfulness Institute, an all-volunteer non-profit organization associated with the United Nations, has expanded their facility to include a space in the Fairfield Commons Mall. There, they are offering free Relaxation and Meditation sessions and donation-based Yoga classes! This is the Institute’s first location inside a mall in the United States!

What is their motivation? To provide those coping mechanisms people so

desperately need. The Heartfulness group feels it is part of their service to humanity, to teach these relaxation and meditation techniques, so that each individual, and ultimately the world, can find peace.

Heartfulness Meditation is practiced in over 110 countries around the world. The Beavercreek center at 3153 Lantz Road has been open since 2000. This will be a 2nd location for them inside the mall in Beavercreek. Please make a point to stop out for either the grand opening this weekend, or anytime you need some relaxation, peace and harmony. This is the perfect way to unwind!

Agenda for the Grand Opening of the Heartfulness Center in the Mall at Fairfield Commons:

Saturday, July 22nd, 2017 from 12-6pm. Lower Level near Elder Beerman.

12:30pm Inauguration and Ribbon Cutting with Mayor Bob Stone and Vice Mayor Julie Vann

1:00pm Dr. Gary Huber from Cincinnati to speak on Benefits of Meditation

1:30pm Brian Jones, Cleveland Heartfulness trainer to present on Heartfulness

2:00pm Experience of Heartfulness Relaxation and Meditation

4:00pm Yoga with Janae Christopher (Ayurveda Yoga style)

4:45pm Experience of Heartfulness Relaxation and Meditation

PS… Mark your calendar for their upcoming Heartfest Wellness Event at the Lantz Rd location on August 19th! Free! For more info click here.
