Nothing Bundt Cakes New Summer Flavors

Nothing Bundt Cakes is making this summer sweeter with the launch of its largest seasonal flavor lineup ever. The new Taste of Summer Collection introduces six limited-time flavors, marking the most extensive summer release in the brand’s 27-year history.

Rolling out now through August, the collection features a mix of two-week pop-up flavors and seasonal featured flavors, offering something new to enjoy throughout the summer. Here’s what to look forward to:

Churro Dulce de Leche Pop-Up (May 27): Inspired by the Mexican classic, this cinnamon spice cake is topped with cinnamon sugar and filled with rich dulce de leche. Available in personal-sized Bundtlets.
Key Lime Featured Flavor (June 10): A sweet and tart twist on a citrusy favorite, this flavor is perfect for summer and available in all cake sizes.
Almond Wedding Bliss Pop-Up (July 1): A delicate white cake infused with almond flavor and topped with a sweet sprinkle crunch. Available in personal-sized Bundtlets.
Lemon Raspberry Featured Flavor (July 15): Combining zesty lemon with raspberries, this refreshing flavor is available in all cake sizes.

Napoli’s Pizza Opens 2nd Location

They opened their original Napoli’s pizza shop in Miamisburg in 2019. Featuring New York-style pizza, calzones, stromboli, sub sandwiches, garlic rolls and baked pasta dishes such as lasagna, manicotti, ravioli, ziti and spaghetti.

Their 2nd location in Beavercreek opens Thurs, May 23rd. Din Alija, who shared that the Beavercreek menu will be smaller, at least at first, and will feature the pizzas, pastas, calzones and stromboli that guests can find at the Miamisburg spot. “All our dough is made from scratch and is fresh every day,” Alija said.

A New Seafood Concept From The Owners of El Toro

When El Toro moved across the street to The Greene, they took advantage of their old location to launch a new concept. They invite guests to dive into Vallarta, your local paradise!

With a seaside decor, neon palm trees and a ceiling of waves, you might actually believe you are in a tropical location. On a recent lunch visit I was served up a cevche (cooked fish, lime, tomatoes, onions, and cilantro) served with tostadas and crackers, instead of the usual chips and salsa you’d expect from a Mexican Restaurant.

The menu, inspired by dishes from Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, is large and broken into appetizers, shareables, soups, seafood specials with some traidtional Mexican classics as well.

I tried the lunch portion of the Pasta Vallarta, which contained a healthy portion of shrimp and scallops, served with a piece of garlic toast. The creamy Nayarit-style sauce it was tossed in made it pretty tasty dish.

Can’t wait to go back and try some of their other dishes and some cocktails from the bar.

Peace Events Happening Around the Community

The news of conflict around the world from Ukraine to Israel and Palestine is extremely upsetting. For those looking for some ways to cope and bring more peace into the world, there are two upcoming events that Daytonians can take part in:

In Beavercreek, Heartfulness Dayton is hosting a two day peace event on Saturday and Sunday, October 28th – 29th at their meditation centers. There are group meditations and programs planned throughout the weekend. The non-profit organization will also be inaugurating a new art exhibit, The Art of Inner Peace by Heartfulness, courtesy of the artist Brian Jones a Heartfulnes Trainer at the center’s Fairfield Mall location.

Jones describes the exhibit as “A journey of self-reflection on the state of the world, our place in it as energetic beings and our search for a deep and lasting inner peace.”

3rd Old Scratch Pizza Location Open in Beavercreek!

Old Scratch Beavercreek will open to the public for dine in and carry out service January 4, 2023 at 4pm.

Similar to the first two locations in downtown Dayton and Centerville, the newest Old Scratch features seating for 150 guests in a communal beer-hall style setting and a 16 seat bar, with 20 rotating taps of regional craft beers. A patio remodel is planned for the spring.

The open kitchen allows guests to watch the pizza making process, from dough stretching and topping, to seeing the pizzas bake in one of the three wood-fired pizza ovens.

“The Old Scratch Beavercreek team has worked hard setting up the space, practicing in the kitchen, and internalizing the Old Scratch approach to exceptional service,” Owner, Eric Soller, says about the new restaurant launch. “We are excited to open the doors to the public on January 4th, and hope new and old Old Scratch fans come out to see us.”

Mr.Soller and the whole crew at Old Scratch Beavercreek look forward to becoming a part of the Beavercreek community and providing guests with the Old Scratch experience.

Twin Peaks Sports Lodge Opens in Beavercreek

JEB Food Group LLC has done an incredible job changing the look of what was previously the Fox & Hound into a place that feels like a mountain lodge, complete with animal heads on the walls, antler chandeliers and 70 tv’s that will make it a mecca for sports fans. Located adjacent to the Fairfield Commons Mall, Twin Peaks will feature scratch-made food, 32 29-degree beers on tap – including national and local favorites and plenty of eye candy. With a large menu including smashed and seared burgers in-house smoked brisket, pork and wings, soups, salads, tacos, manager Amanda told us one of their most popular dishes is their pot roast.

Last night I got to enjoy a sneak peak meal at the lodge. We were immediately greeted by a bevy of Twin Peaks Girl in barely there red plaid tops and short shorts and taken to a tall table and offered selections from a limited menu.

We selected a couple of cocktails from their featured $5 list. The Don Julio Blackberry Rita was refreshing and slightly sweet. I appreciated the one large round ice cube that kept the drink cold, but didn’t water it down. My dining campaigns enjoyed the tartness of the Wheatley Strawberry Lemonade made with Wheatley Vodka, Monin Strawberry puree, lemonade house sour, lemon juice and Sprite.

Other $5 options included a mojito, a Tito’s bloody mary and the Irish Trashcan, made from house vodka, rum, melon liqueur and a can of Red Bull.

During the preview we were able to select an appetizer for the table and choose loaded fries with hickory smoked pulled pork. They came loaded with cheddar · pepper jack · bacon bits · green onions · pico de gallo · cilantro · diced pickles · smoky sweet BBQ drizzle · bacon ranch and appreciated they cam with tongs to make them easy to share.

For entree’s we shared tastes of three different entrees:

SPICY MEATBALL PARMESAN

all-beef house made meatballs · marinara made in-house with San Marzano tomatoes · fresh mozzarella · Parmesan · parsley · toasted hoagie roll

PULLED PORK

smoked pulled pork · creamy coleslaw · pickles · BBQ sauce which came with a choice of regular fries or the sweet potatoe fries we choose.

SPICY CHIPOTLE CHICKEN

This is the 3rd Ohio location for Twin Peaks, the Texas based chain that was founded in 2005. “We’re excited to bring the ultimate sports lodge to Beavercreek,” said Twin Peaks CEO Joe Hummel. “With wall-to-wall TVs, fans won’t miss a second of their Bengals, Reds, Bearcats or Flyers, as well as every marquee game, event and fight. Plus, our scratch-made food and elevated bar selection offers something for every appetite. We can’t wait to open the lodge and join the Beavercreek community.”

On Monday, June 27th and Tuesday, June 28th they’ll have a soft opening starting at 5pm and come Wednesday, June 29th they’ll begin their regular hours beginning with lunch service at 11am. Weeknights they will be open until midnight and Friday & Saturday will serve until 2am. It’s a huge building and including the patio can seat 314 guests. They don’t take reservations, but based on the number of people that tried to come in during the invite only session last night, I expect they will be quite busy right away. They also offer a 20% discount for military and first responders.

Lularoe Clothes Dayton After Tornadoes

Approximately 20 local LuLaRoe boutique owners, in coordination with nonprofit partner New Path Outreach, are gearing up to distribute 5,000 brand new dresses, skirts, tops, and leggings to women affected by Dayton’s Memorial Day tornado outbreak. Women of all ages, shapes and sizes are invited to participate in a special clothing giveaway scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. on July 29 at The Point Choice Food Pantry, located at 506 East Main Street in Trotwood. When familiar faces struck a deal with The Greene to again take over the closed Choe’s Bistro, it was a case of old owners, cleaning up a new owners mess. Michelle and Charles Yang managed “Choe’s Asian Bistro” from December 2014 through March 2017. After turning it over to new management, back rent and tax questions forced The Greene to close the restaurant. The Yangs came back to the rescue re-opening the eatery in April 2018. Today, after 7 months, new management has fine tuned their dishes. They will be adding a new chef and new menu additions are around the corner. The Food Adventures Crew has exclusive scoop on what could be the turning point for Ace Asian Cafe.

We have had good service on our visits here. The wait staff was attentive and friendly.

The old standard and everyone’s favorite, seems to be the most popular menu item here. Nice and creamy and a sauce like you have never tasted before for dipping. It is a smoky sweet n sour sauce.

— BENTO BOX WITH TERIYAKI SALMON:
One of the best ways to sample the menu is through a Bento Box. And at the lunch price of $10.95 it is economical. You pick 2 entree dishes and it is served with a spring roll, rice, orange slices and a salad. Your entree choices include pad Thai, sushi rolls, Korean Bulgogi, Curry dishes and Chinese entrees.

— CALAMARI IN SPICY CHILI SAUCE:
Deep fried calamari rings with a fantastic dipping sauce. The sweet sauce and spice, is the perfect contrast to the light crunch. The calamari does not have a fishy taste at all.

Their version is definitely worth ordering. All of their soups are good, but this one is the best. Mouth watering with a touch of heat.

— YELLOWTAIL NIGIRI
Then simple thought of a fresh piece of raw fish and rice. If raw is your thing, try the Yellowtail. Dip in wasabi and soy sauce to complete the tasty deal.

— THE WASHINGTON SUSHI ROLL:
Our favorite sushi roll is this one. It features cooked Shrimp Tempura, Cucumber, and cooked Crab topped with Salmon, Avocado, Tobago, Wasabi Dressing, Sweet Sauce & Goma Dressing. The result is a sweet and crunchy taste. If you like shrimp, crab and salmon, you must try this roll.

— GENERAL TSO’S CHICKEN:
They have a nice take on an old favorite. Medium sized chunks of deep-fried shrimp, tossed in a light brown sauce with stir fired vegetable surrounding the plate. A good, old-fashioned staple of Chinese cuisine done right.

— CHICKEN BULGOGI on the KOREAN BBQ TABLE:

General Tso’s Chicken

You or the server get to cook this shredded marinated chicken on the table side grill. It is a fun experience and the aroma as the chicken cooks is amazing. A few minutes and sizzles later, and you have a piping hot chicken grilled dish in front of you. Served with rice, the grilled onion and spices are a perfect blend.

Katsu Chicken Bento Box – A nice white meat piece, sliced and panko fried, drizzled with Asian sauces.

Blue Crab Stuffed Salmon – Baked Salmon with blue crab, stir fired vegetables and Asian spices.

Join “Influencers for Action” Launch Party on October 5th

October 5, 2018 marks the launch of Influencers for Action, an Instagram Influencer-led register to vote project based in Dayton, Ohio. The organization features a team of 80 Influencers, of which approximately 2/3 are from the Dayton-area, who will use their platform on social media to relay useful information about the upcoming voter registration deadlines to their followers.

Cumulatively, the Influencer team possesses an audience of over 200,000 followers. Notable Dayton Influencers include Lauren White, the new executive director of UpDayton, and Libby Ballengee, co-host of Gem City Podcast. Other Influencers from outside of Dayton such as Julianna Van Golen, a high-fashion model who was featured in NYFW, have also joined the project.

To celebrate the start of this unique project, Influencers for Action is hosting a launch party at W.O Wright’s Pub on October 5th. Doors open at 9pm, and is a free event until 11pm. Entry is $5 after 11pm as live music will be provided from two Dayton Influencers, Ty Spacely and Tony Splvsh. Drink specials include $3 draft beers and $2 well shots. International Best Selling Author visits Dayton to Discuss Power of Meditation

We are living in a time of much discord, both within the society at large, and within our own hearts. It’s a time when many people are finding the stresses of everyday modern life are taking a toll on their health, careers and relationships. What can we do to find some balance in such an overwhelming, fast paced world?

One of the most important ways to maintain inner peace is through meditation. For most people, this advice is not new. They’ve heard it time and again, but with so much to do, who has time to do “nothing”? Ultra successful people like Steve Jobs, Oprah, Seinfeld, Madonna and many others credit meditation as a key factor in their success. If they have time to meditate, then surely we do too!

Taking time to meditate is not “doing nothing.” It’s giving your restless mind time to calm down, to slow your heart rate, and connect with your inner-self. Uma Mullapudi, a local meditation trainer, explained to me “You take a shower and brush your teeth. You don’t think about it, it’s just part of your daily routine. Meditation is a cleansing for the mind, and it needs it just as badly as your body.” I inquired why our minds need this cleansing so badly. “It’s because you take in stressors and negative impressions going through your day. Meditation, especially Heartfulness method, clears those away.”

The Heartfulness Way that Mullapudi describes is a century-old method of meditation with the power to facilitate an immediate, tangible spiritual experience, irrespective of a person’s faith. This non-denominational practice is taught all over the world, and most recently, the subject of a new best selling book The Heartfulness Way – Simple Tools for Spiritual Transformation. In this heart-centered book, a student, Joshua Pollock, is in conversation with his teacher, Kamlesh D. Patel—affectionately known as Daaji.

While many books describe refined states of being, The Heartfulness Way goes further, providing a pragmatic course to experience those states for oneself, which, per the book’s guiding principle, is “greater than knowledge.” Joshua Pollock is a Heartfulness trainer and practitioner from the United States. In fact, he visited Dayton in his early days of learning the Heartfulness meditation practice. He returns to Dayton on June 24th and June 25th to discuss the journey of writing this book, and how Heartuflness has changed his life, and can help yours too!

The restaurant will open in the former Choe’s Asian Bistro location. Ace Asian Cafe plan to start serving food this Friday, but they are not sure of the exact time. As crunch time approaches, management has set that day as the target. The carpenters and management are hard at work finalizing the menu and details.

The restaurant will feature a sushi bar, an upstairs dining area and a full wine area loaded with wine, sake and booze. The windows have been decorated in Asian Koi goldfish designs to match the inside dining room’s accent shades.

The owners of Ace Asian Cafe are part of the team that originally opened up Choe’s, but then they sold it to another group and the restaurant closed. Expect moderately fine dining and a sleek atmosphere, with a grand piano. The owners are looking for a weekend piano player, call 937-320-0002 if interested.

This gourmet restaurant is soon to be a popular destination for Miami Valley diners seeking a Food Adventure. If the end product is as good as the expectations, they should have no problems keeping this cafe busy.

Working to Become a Tree City

The City of Beavercreek is working to become a Tree City USA. The Tree City USA Program is the framework for a healthy, sustainable urban forestry program with substantial benefits. To qualify as a Tree City USA community, the City must meet four standards established by the Arbor Day Foundation and the National Association of State Foresters. The standards that need met are: A Tree Board or Department; Tree Care Ordinance; A Community Forestry Program with an Annual Budget of at Least $2 Per Capita; and An Arbor Day Observance and Proclamation.

On November 27, 2017 Beavercreek City Council, by Ordinance, established a “Tree Commission to regulate the planting, care, and removal of trees.” This is a newly created board to advise Council regarding the planting, care and removal of trees. This board will recommend species and variety of trees to be planted within the City, implement an annual Arbor Day observance, and establish and maintain an inventory of City street trees. Board members are Jeff Buerschen, Jeanne Kunay Steve McLane, Stuart Moats, and Matt Hempstead.

The Tree Advisory Board together with City staff will be responsible for the care of all trees on city owned property and determine who will perform necessary tree work. Involving residents and business owners creates a wide awareness of what trees do for the community and provides broad support for better tree care. “Becoming a tree City USA is a great way to improve community pride. The program helps residents feel good about the place they live and work,” stated Pete E. Landrum, City Manager. Annual recognition shows visitors and prospective residents that trees, conservation, and the environment are important to the community.

To meet another standard, the City will hold an Arbor Day ceremony Friday, April 27, 2018, 6pm at Dominick Lofino Park, 640 Grange Hall Road. The festivities will include planting of a ceremonial tree, activities provided by Greene County Library, and each family will receive a tree to plant in their yard.

HeartFest takes place at the beautiful Natural Path Meditation Center in Beavercreek, Ohio

Stressed? Seeking some peace of mind? Aren’t we all! It’s not as complicated as we tend to imagine. Self care, through movement and meditation, can dramatically improve our ability to cope with an increasingly stressful world.

Lots of folks are unaware that we have a wonderful resource nestled right here in the Miami Valley! The Natural Path Meditation Center, a non-denominational center that teaches a heart-based form of meditation called Heartfulness, is located in Beavercreek, conveniently close to both Fairfield and I-35 (directions below).

This weekend the Center is hosting their 2nd Annual HeartFest event. It’s a FREE & fun wellness festival, with workshops and vendors for all ages! Organizers hope that by offering tools for self care and inner peace, people will be able to live a more balanced life. How wonderful would that be for our community?

Prince Tribute Band FREE CONCERT, July 22 at GARLIC FEST

Dayton Most Metro has EXCLUSIVE scoop on a free concert coming to the 2017 Garlic Fest Saturday evening, July 22nd.

A Prince Tribute band out of Chicago and Columbus, called “Prince Night” will perform hits from “Cream” to “Little Red Corvette,” and everything in between. There may even be a Sheila E. and Appolonia song or two.

Get ready to party like it’s “1999,” because the concert will go off “Purple Rain” or shine…

The band is set to hit the stage Saturday Night July 22nd at 7:30pm.

Rapid Fired Pizza will be opening their newest restaurant at 3301 Dayton Xenia Rd in Beavercreek, Ohio on Monday, May 22nd, followed by a 500 pizza giveaway on Tuesday, May 23rd. Starting at 10:30 am, the first 500 guests will get one free pizza. “We are looking forward to opening to the Beavercreek community and excited to be part of this new Synergy/Mills Morgan development! We are expecting a huge crowd for the opening on Monday and for the free pizza giveaway on Tuesday,” says co-founder elly Gray.

Rapid Fired Pizza is the fast casual pizza concept founded in Kettering Ohio that features fresh made, 11 inch thin crust and 9 inch pan and one-of-a-kind No-Doh pizzas that are cooked in an Amazingly Fast 180 seconds. Customers can choose from eight sauces, eight cheeses, over thirty toppings, and nineteen dipping sauces to build their perfect pizza, or try one of the ten craft pizzas on the menu. The craft salads at Rapid Fired Pizza are all under 400 calories plus patrons can also create a custom salads to meet their personal taste and healthy eating goals. Bread Sticks, Cini Sticks and a variety of desserts are available at every store. Beer and wine will soon be on the menu in Beavercreek. The Pepsi Spire provides over 120 drink combinations.
