An Easy Appetizer From Chef Lee Anne House

November 17, 2017 By Lee Anne House

Everyone needs a few recipes up their sleeves for the holidays. Whether you are cooking for a small intimate gathering or a large party, having appetizers you can make ahead of time is key to enjoying your event.

I love everything about this appetizer. From the crunch of the endive, the creaminess of the cheese, the tang from the vinegar and the decadence of prosciutto…it is the perfect app for my parties.
These can be made many hours ahead of time and stored in the fridge on a small sheet tray. Line them up close so they can’t fall over. Wait to garnish them till you serve.
This recipe makes about 15-20 stuffed endive leaves.

Salsa Verde Stuffed Endive with Bleu Cheese, Pears and Prosciutto

1/2 cup softened, low fat cream cheese

1/2 cup low fat sour cream

1/8 cup low fat, olive oil mayo

2 teaspoons HouseMade Salsa Verde seasoning

1/3 cup crumbled bleu cheese plus more for garnish

2 scallions chopped thin

1 small red pear, small diced with skin on

1/2 cup small died prosciutto plus more for garnish

1 teaspoon Spicy Olive Cranberry Pear Vinegar

2 heads of Belgium endive

1/8 cup chopped fresh parsley

Whip together the cream cheese, sour cream, mayo and salsa verde seasoning. Fold in gently the bleu cheese, scallions, pear, prosciutto and vinegar.

Cut the stem end off the endive so you can pull off individual leaves. You will have to cut the end of multiple times till you get to the center.

Fill the endive leaves with the cream cheese mixture. Garnish with more bleu cheese, prosciutto and fresh parsley.

For more info about this recipe, visit Lee Anne tonight from 5-10pm at the annual Thanksgiving Night Market at The Yellow Cab Tavern!

Whether you’re stocking up on spices and ingredients for parties with family and friends, or getting started on some early gift shopping, this is your perfect chance to find one-of-a-kind handmade goods from right here in Dayton!

Plus there will be local craft beer! It’s the best holiday shopping you’ll experience this season.

HouseMade Introduces New Spice Blends

April 21, 2017 By Dayton937 Leave a Comment

We’ve been writing about HouseMade for several years, starting with the sweet sauce with a slow, powerful Thai Chili heat that was the Winner of the 2014, 2015, & 2016 Cajun Hot Sauce festival. Then there was the PEACHY Habanero, for those not so fond of the heat from the original, and then came the Serrano GREEN and the Thai Chili Hot Honey.  Those were enough to get you hooked.  But now there’s more!

Just in time to start your grilling weather off right! Who doesn’t need some fun, funky, unique spice blends to add major flavor to their meats, veggies, dips and sauces?

LeeAnne House, the owner and chef of HouseMade Sriracha, says “even chefs need go to spice blends to spice up their week night repertoires.” She found herself buying blends from other companies but wanted to create her own version without all the additives. Her new spice line is just like all her sriracha sauces, no colors, preservatives or anti caking agents in anything. Just great fresh flavors!

Chimichurri grilled zucchini and squash ribbons

There are 3 brand new HouseMade spice blends that your kitchen absolutely needs:

Salsa Verde rainbow carrot slaw

        chimichurri

        salsa verde

        chorizo

They are available at the Spicy Olive in Austin Landing and will be at The Night Market at the Old Yellow Cab tonight,  Friday, April 21 and runs from 5-10pm.  Of course there will be plenty of sriracha too.

If you haven’t been to The Night Market you are truly missing out. It is full of handmade items from local Dayton vendors. Everything from soaps, jewelry, BBQ sauces, coffee, candy, candles, sweets and hot sauces. Going on at the same time is the Food Truck Rally with a boat load of trucks. Live music and local beer on tap round out the event. And if beer isn’t your thang, check out the pedal powered espresso bar from 13North Coffee. That will keep the night going!

If you need cooking suggestions there will lots of new recipes coming to the HouseMade Facebook page very shortly. LeeAnne’s Instagram, leonaleelady, is full of food photography using the new spice blends and of course lots of pictures of her pups! Feel free to shoot her a message. She is always ready to talk shop.

Chef House is also our resident expert at Food Adventures.

It’s A Farmers Market At Night, With Beer!

April 24, 2015 By Dayton937 4 Comments

Local Vendors will light up the “Night Market” Saturday Night

This Saturday the place to be is the Yellow Cab building. Tucked back on fourth street between Garden Station and the Dublin Pub is a community art space that hosts all kinds of events, most notably the Food Truck Rallies, art shows, concerts, movie showings and even farmers markets.

This weekend the Night Market is happening.  Night Market is a night time farmers market with craft beer, food trucks and entertainment. This is a fun way to fill your table full of local goods, drink some craft locally brewed beer, grub on some of the best food trucks around and listen to some tunes from DJ Etch. All ages are welcome for this party atmosphere market.

With spring time here our farmers will be selling their veggies. Brickel Creek will be bringing her organic goodness. Flying  Mouse will have maple syrup. Homefull will be bringing items from their 150 raised beds.

Look for popcorn, both sweet and spicy from Caramel Cravings, and gluten free baked items from Neighborhood Nest including spicy cheese crackers! Also featured are vanilla extracts, jams and jellies, spice blends, granola, cookies, and cinnamon rolls from Baker’s Vegetable Market & Greenhouse.  Baker’s will also have hand pies, sprouts, lettuce and baby vegetable plants, so you can get your own garden started.

HouseMade will have their sriracha, hot honey, salts and rub.  Simpleman Beef Jerky will be coming down again from Columbus with their all natural and amazing beef jerky.  My Artisano Foods from Cincinnati will be making their first appearance with their gourmet cheeses.

Spices, Veggies, Non Food Items, Beers, and much, much more

There will even be non-food items to look out for. Travis Eads from Oakwood will be selling his handmade items for the kitchen and the home.  Ludic Soap will be returning with her amazing smelling handcrafted soaps.  Also, Gem City Tee Shirts will have all kinds of Dayton designs on hand.

You will have four food trucks to look forward to for the night. New on the scene is the Drunken Smoker Food Truck featuring Waffles.  The Shakery, Fronana and Sweet P’s will also be there.

This event is rain or shine. If this rain passes by for the weekend this event will be held outside. If not there is plenty of space inside for everyone. The hours are from 5-9 pm Saturday the 25th of April.

Featured breweries for this weekend are Toxic, Yellow Springs and Warped Wing.

This is a perfect, intimate market for those of you who enjoy eating local and buying local.  What better way to spend a Saturday evening then at the Night Market?  It is a perfect time to create your own local, organic Food Adventure, and celebrate what Ohio has to offer.

Come down to eat, drink, shop and meet some new Dayton peeps!

Local Food Vendors Return To Yellow Cab For Monthly Night Market

March 20, 2015 By Dayton Most Metro

Night Market PhotoIn November 2014, The Yellow Cab Building hosted their first “Night Market,” a market spotlighting local farmers, small boutique vendors such as sauce and salsa makers, juice and soda makers and all sorts of delicious goodies.  Folks at The Yellow Cab have decided to make this event a permanent fixture in Downtown Dayton. On Saturday March 21st, The Yellow Cab Building will begin hosting this Night Market on a monthly basis.

“Night Market in November was great for attendees and vendors, and many people asked if we would hold the event weekly.  We’ve decided that a monthly event is the right fit for our space,” Brian Johnson, organizer said. In partnership with local chef and sriracha maker, LeeAnne House, Johnson plans to create this alternative farmers market that he says is like “a Saturday morning farmer’s market combined with an evening at your favorite local brewery.” He says that “By hosting this market at night, we are reaching a new demographic of consumers that might not always get up early on Saturday; additionally, by offering local, craft beer at the event we are encouraging them to stick around a little longer and chat with the unique community of farmers and boutique food vendors.”
There will be a variety of vendors in attendance including;

1. Homefull (daytons homeless advocacy group with a farm!)
2. The Shakery Juice Bar
3. A Bit of a Bite Salsa
4. Chef JC’s (vanilla extracts)
5. Ashley’s Pastry Shop
6. Wheezy’s garlic, spices and more
7. Oakley Urban Farm
8. FOND of Life Food Organically Nutritious and Delicious
9. Caramel Cravings
10. Simple Man Foods, LLC
11. Grub Stop
12. Fronana
13. Ludic Soap
14. Miami Valley Spice Traders
15. Kara Baker (baker and farmer)
16. HouseMade sriracha, hot honey and spices & rubs

And  beers from Toxic Brew Company, Warped Wing Brewing Company & Yellow Springs Brewery.
