Free Community Wellness Event at the Dayton Arcade
As Dayton moves into a post-pandemic world, the newly renovated Tank Inspired by CenterPoint Energy at the Dayton Arcade will host a community event that offers hope and healing.
“Now, more than ever, we need to tap into the value and healing resources that true community involves. Our overall health is dependent upon the proper balance of the mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of ourselves. When one of those things is out of alignment, our whole system begins to suffer. This event was created to provide education, support, and community connections so we may begin to function as a whole and balanced entity,” said Misty Brown, owner of Wellspring Healing Studio and Founder of Love Shack.
The event will be held this Sunday from 11am – 4pm and will offer alternative healing methods such as aroma therapy, chakra screening, reiki, sound healing, art therapy, and more. Open to the broader Dayton community, organizers hope that this event will inspire new ways of thinking about health and self-care.
“There are so many valuable and unknown options to healing and wellness that offer risk free alternatives. It is my goal to provide education and hands on experience with these healing modalities to empower people to take control of their wellness journey and begin to treat themselves as a whole person,” said Brown.
Sunday, March 27 from 11 am to 4 pm
A family-friendly event focused on community, education, art, wellness, and healing sponsored by Love Shack: A Traveling Community Outreach Collaborative for Dayton in collaboration with Culture Works and Dayton Arcade Events.
The Tank at the Dayton Arcade, 35 W. 4th St., Dayton

SUNDAY ‘TEA’ WILL BE SPILLED….so DRINK UP!
The Bar and Bistro at the ‘Top of the Market’ will be lit Sunday, May 1st, as Dayton takes a sip of it’s very own SUNDAY TEA DANCE!
Centered around the ancient idea of ‘having tea’ from 4p-7p, the Bistro will kick off their own version with Drinks, Drag Queens and Dancing! Gaining popularity around the country, these ‘daytime’ parties feature high energy dance music (by DJ ALVAREZ) and a chance to have a Sunday Funday throughout the summer.
The premiere show features a stellar cast….Dayton royalty JACKIE O, The smoldering hot JESSICA MARIE JONES, ever deranged DANA SINTELL and the return of a Dayton Favorite, CARRIE J SUMMERS! On deck are Chasity Marie and other locals! Show director (Sintell) was overjoyed when the girls agreed that this could be something amazing! ‘I have always thought a TEA DANCE had potential in Dayton. You see them in Saugatuck, NYC, MIAMI….why not here! Who doesn’t want to see a show, hear some great tunes, dance with friends and be in bed by 8:30pm!’ he says with a smile. ‘I know the Bistro is the place. You can sense it when you walk in. It’s setup perfectly for a show, and there will be space to just kick back and have some fun together!’
‘I’m excited to do local drag again!’ Jackie O interjects. ‘I miss it. And look at this group. I mean…it has everything!’ The Sunday kick-off show is only the beginning of summer filled with TEA DANCE parties. And the cast will change weekly. ‘You will see one of the original 4 bopping around every Sunday, but we want to make it fresh weekly! So much fun!!’
For Carrie J Summers’ fans, this is a real treat! ‘I called Carrie, told her the concept, told her to let us know what she felt would work…and she said YES! I was thrilled.’ says Sintell. ‘People miss her…and they will love seeing her back in action.’ Action will be plenty…along with great cocktails at the Bistro. John Capobianco, the manager of the space sees the potential for growth. ‘We have a warehouse we can open up when we get the crowd. This space. is perfect for TEA and I think we are all on to something!’
In recently years, the idea of dancing at local bars has dwindled with the closing of some longtime clubs. Here is a chance to get back into the groove. ‘The drag show part of this is unique. Dayton always has to do things a little differently, and adding Drag seems the perfect partner to TEA DANCE.’ says Sintell. There will likely be food trucks at the event for those needing a little fare! In sticking with Dayton Drag’s ongoing desire to ‘help others’ the Queens at Tea (the BISTRO BABES!) will donate tips from their third (final) number of each week to a local charity! “This really worked when we did brunches in the past’ says Summers. ‘It feels good to help area charities.’
The excitement builds for the big premiere. Make sure you grab your tickets! TEA will BE SPILLED…and YOU Don’t want to MISS IT!
SUNDAYton TEA is coming to the Bar and Bistro at 32 Webster St. Dayton.
Kick-Off Show is Sunday, May 1st, 4p-7p.
Advance Seating sold by the table can be purchased online. Single tickets can be purchased at the door for just $10.

Vincent Van Gogh’s Birthday Means Discounted Admission at DAI
The Dayton Art Institute’s (DAI) latest Focus Exhibition, Van Gogh & European Landscapes, offers the Dayton region a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see a remarkable pair of Van Gogh paintings, on loan to the museum from Switzerland. The DAI-exclusive exhibition opened earlier this month and continues through September 4.
Van Gogh was born on March 30, 1853, and the DAI will celebrate the artist’s birthday with a special museum admission discount on March 30 & 31. Mention Van Gogh’s birthday at the museum’s Guest Services Desk on either day and get $5 off one regular adult admission. The museum is open 11 a.m.–5 p.m. on March 30 and 11 a.m.–8 p.m. on March 31.
Regular museum general admission is $15 adults; $10 seniors (60+), active military and groups (10 or more); $5 students (18+ w/ID) and youth (ages 7–17); and free for children (ages 6 & younger). Admission includes access to the exhibitions Van Gogh & European Landscapes, Black Heritage Through Visual Rhythms and Fired Imagination: Ancient Chinese Ceramics from the Nancy and Ed Rosenthal Family Collection, as well as the museum collection galleries.
“It is a true joy to experience real paintings by Vincent van Gogh in person and to see why he is considered the world’s most famous artist,” said Jerry N. Smith, Chief Curator and Director of Education. “You can see the vibrancy, the rich color and thick brush strokes that highlight his late paintings. In addition, you get to see his paintings alongside the works of several of the artists Van Gogh personally admired.”
The paintings of Vincent van Gogh are beloved and instantly recognized the world over for their brilliant color and bold brushwork. Despite his untimely death at the age of thirty-seven, Van Gogh worked intensely until the very end. The pair of landscape paintings in this exhibition were made in Auvers-sur-Oise, France, in July 1890, the final month of Van Gogh’s life. They are vibrant images that feature his signature style of thick dashes of color and quickly applied swirls made with a loaded brush.
This intimate Focus Exhibition also includes works by Charles Francois Daubigny, Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot, Joseph Mallord William Turner, John Constable and others.
“This truly is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to view two Van Gogh paintings that are rarely seen outside Europe, and we are honored to be able to host them here in Dayton for the next few months,” said DAI Director & CEO, Michael R. Roediger. “Don’t miss the chance to see works in person, as well as the outstanding Special Exhibition Black Heritage Through Visual Rhythms, another DAI exclusive, which is on view through May 22.”

The Best Chicken Now Available Late Nights at Caesar’s Drive-Thru
Back in 2016 we first introduced you to gas station chicken at the Town & Country Shell Station.
Well now that same chicken is available at Caesar’s Drive Thru in Washington Township, located on 725 just east of McEwan Rd. You’ll be able to pick up chicken strip meals, chicken sandwiches and and a few other chicken treats. Or go across the parking lot and enter the quick serve eatery with a full menu of options, located in the strip center that also houses Five Guys Burgers and Rapid Fired Pizza.
Caesar’s Krispy Krunchy Chicken will be available seven days a week and open for late night eats, until 2:30am during the week and 5:30am on Friday and Saturday. The menu includes your classic fried chicken, available by the piece, as tenders or in a sandwich, honey butter biscuits and more.
And their line of signature sauces give you plenty of options for your tender, your biscuit, your boudin bite, the list goes on and on! The first sauce is always free, additional charge for the second and beyond. My favorite is the cajun sweet & sour!
While the chicken is the star, don’t miss out on trying the side dishes. Also available but not pictured, macaroni and cheese.
The Krispy Krunchy Chicken Miami Valley locations in Kettering (Town and Country Shell) and Bellbrook (Wilmington Pike and SR 725 in Bellbrook) and now this location are all locally owned and operated businesses, with a licensing agreement from Krispy Krunchy Chicken to be their food supplier. RFQ for Proposed Mural at Sunrise MetroPark
The Contemporary Dayton (The Co) announces a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for artists, artist teams, designers, or architects who live within a 50-mile radius of Dayton to design an outdoor mural for the Centennial Overlook at Sunrise MetroPark.
This small urban park is situated on a high bank above The Great Miami River. Its walkways are filled with stunning views of the city and skyline that change with the light of day. Prairie plantings and wildflowers draw in wildlife from the adjacent river habitat and make the park a serene spot for relaxing. Catch a glimpse of the large and graceful blue herons that frequent the area. Watch the Wolf Creek spill into the Great Miami up close from the paved river walkway at the foot of the stairs. An ambitious plan for Sunrise MetroPark has been proposed as part of the Dayton Riverfront Plan. Centennial Park is the first phase of that plan.
The proposed mural location is comprised of a two-sided curved staircase from the landing at Centennial Overlook down to the Great Miami River. The mural is part of a larger project at Sunrise MetroPark to draw people down to the river and will feature the poem by Paul Lawrence Dunbar, On the River (abbreviated):
“The sun is low
The waters flow
My boat is dancing to and fro
The paddles splash,
The wavelets dash,
We see the summer lightning flash
Where neither bird
Nor beast has stirred,
he spotted bullfrog’s croak is heard”
The RFQ is the first of a three-phased process concluding with the installation of a single public art project with a budget of $12,000 for design, materials, and production. The project selection committee will choose up to three finalists that will receive a $750 stipend for their proposal.
The deadline to submit an RFQ is Monday, April 11, 2022, and should be submitted to Cydnie King, Curatorial Assistant at The Co by emailing [email protected]. For more details, please visit codayton.org/events/call-for-entry.
