At The Foundry he “aims to test the limits of Dayton’s dining scene by expanding palettes and introducing new favorite flavors.”

We also enjoyed a charcuterie tower which included an assortment of house-cured meats, pickles, preserves, bread, and Ohio artisan cheeses. We all agreed that the charred carrot salad with pickled beets, salted pistachios, arugula chevre and coffee crumbs was a table favorite.

We first broke the news last weekend that the former Sweeney’s restaurant property had been sold. New owners Rhonda and Matt Hiatt have revealed that after a major renovations to the building, they hope to be opening Meridien this fall. As of this week they’ve already ripped up flooring, started installing a new roof and changing the bar area. They’ll be adding a two sided, 30 seat bar with a lounge area with couches behind it.







The sandwiches served on seeded rye bread were huge and half portions are available. Each table has a condiment tray and Schear was quick to point out that tums are offered at each table.


Juanita Darden-Jones, opened Third Perk Coffeehouse on Fifth Street in 2015, while also serving as a mathematics professor at Sinclair Community College. The cafe quickly became a Dayton favorite for meetings, grabbing premium coffee and a delicious chicken salad sandwich. It was there she launched her SHE-Ro speaking events, that highlights female community leaders who is open to mentoring other women, and she has a story to tell.
